St Veronica Parish 3rd Sunday of Easter

Dear Saint Veronica Parishioners, Remember to keep wishing people a Happy Easter during these 50 days! Happy Easter! The Lord has been raised from the dead, Alleluia!!! We are still within the midst of our Easter Season, our 50-day meditation on the mystery of Christ's Resurrection. A special word of gratitude again to all the volunteers and ministries who did so much in preparing for and ministering during our Triduum and Easter and Divine Mercy Liturgies. Your efforts have glorified the Lord and enriched our celebrations. Thank you! In today’s Gospel the disciples were going fishing, but not for relaxation. That had been their former job and way of life and, at this point, they were confused about Jesus. They had been separated from the Lord for the first time in three years and who knew if and when he would return? They needed to work in order to eat. Their faith at this time was really being put to the test. Jesus takes them to task for their unbelief and addresses them as children. Not sure if they would appreciate being called children. But, they were, in fact, children in the ways of faith and spirituality. Then, Jesus – the amateur fisherman – tells these professionals where to fish! Lower your nets on the right side. There is always a right way to do things! This is the second time they are called out of the water and the fishing boats to be his disciples. We learn from that, that Jesus never gives up on us either. He is always calling us to return to him and be his disciples. He did it with Peter and the disciples; he does it with us, too. Congratulations to all our Second Graders who are received their First Holy Communion this weekend on Saturday at St. Malachy and for those who will receive their First Holy Communion at St. Margaret this coming Saturday. We pray that they stay close to Jesus in the Eucharist and to continue their journey to be fully initiated Catholics in the Church. A gentle reminder to us who have received Holy Communion for many years: Strive to avoid, at all costs, the danger of receiving Holy Communion in a mechanical, perfunctory, routine, and nonchalant fashion. The real danger of easy access and frequent availability of Holy Communion is to simply take the Lord for granted. In many sacristies throughout the world there is a sign, better yet a “Warning-sign” with the following words: “Priest, man of God, say this Mass as if it were your first Mass, your last Mass, your Only Mass.” May this be our approach and attitude as we receive Holy Communion - to

receive Holy Communion every time “as if it were our first Holy Communion, our last Holy Communion, our Only Holy Communion!” Indeed, how much more fervent would our reception of Holy Communion be!!! THE ANNUAL ST VERONICA CRIBBAGE TOURNAMENT will be held in the St. Malachy church hall on Saturday, May 14th at 6:30 p.m. Please call either rectory to purchase tickets. Tickets are $25 each and there will be a number of Trophies, Cash Prizes and Finger Food, Snacks and Soft Beverages being supplied. Come one, come all. All proceeds will benefit our Burlington POWIR group who is supporting 2 Afghan Refugees. The Easter Collection taken two weeks ago was and is for the retirement and health care needs for the Priests of the Archdiocese of Boston. Hundreds upon hundreds of priests have served us in our parishes throughout the years. We have a responsibility to assist them in their needs as they continue to serve the Lord faithfully. If you haven’t done so already, please be generous as a thanksgiving for the graces given to us by the priests of the Archdiocese. You may visit clergytrust.org/donate to give online. Thank you! Several weeks ago, many of you received a letter from Cardinal Seán requesting your support of the 2022 Catholic Appeal. Our par ish directly benefits from the ministries supported by the Appeal and your gift will help us reach our 2022 goal. Our Goal is $98,608. As of this printing, we have pledges and gifts totaling $60,894. We are at 62 % of our Goal. If you have not already done so, please prayerfully consider making a pledge. You may mail your pledge or visit www.bostoncatholicappeal.org to give online. You may also give by taking one of the Envelopes found in your Pew or at the doors of the church. Thank you! Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION MAY 12TH

Eucharistic Adoration will take place on Thursday, May 12th in the chapel at St. Malachy’s Church from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. No advance sign up will be necessary; spend as little or as much time as you want. You may park in the back parking lot and access the chapel by the rear door of the church. What to do during Eucharistic Adoration The primary purpose of Adoration is right there in the name of the act: to adore the One present to us in the Eucharist. Remember that you don’t actually have to do anything. The greatest gift God gives us is himself, and Adoration is another way for us to recognize that gift outside of receiving the Eucharist at Mass. So, don’t overthink it. Just receive the gift. Here are a few suggestions Small prayer booklets which can be used to help

during your meditation will be available. These may be picked up as you enter the chapel.

Pray in any way that’s meaningful to you. Pray the rosary. To contemplate the mysteries of

Jesus’ life in the rosary is to contemplate the mystery of the Eucharist given to us and the Blessed Sacrament we praise in Adoration. So, pairing these prayers is a great habit to get into.

Read from Holy Scripture. Just sit there - receive the gift of Christ in the

Eucharist and be at peace in the presence of Our Lord.

Guidelines for Adoration Adoration is a time for quiet meditation and

prayer. Please remain silent while in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.

Genuflect when entering or leaving a pew and if

crossing in front of the Blessed Sacrament. We plan to have Adoration on the second Thursday of every month, although, in some cases, it may be on a different day. Please join us in this most important devotion to Our Lord. Rest for a while in the presence of Jesus. Let him fill you with his peace, grace, and love.
