Business Voice Newsletter ~ July/August 2015 ~ 2
Recently I was having a conversa1on with who I consider to be a successful business owner in town about the difference he saw between business owners of today and those maybe of 20 years ago. While some people grow up around business or are predisposed to entrepreneurship I believe we will con1nue to see a higher rate of individuals making their own jobs rather than taking a job. As Peter Drucker states, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” In my opinion the essence of a successful business is offering a service or a product that helps people meet their needs and solve their problems. It’s easy to misunderstand the symbio1c rela1onship between a business and its customers. Mistreat a customer at your own peril, I believe it will come
back to haunt you. If you solve a customer’s problem with a well-designed solu1on at a mutually acceptable price, both par1es will bene-fit. In today’s market our customers have higher expecta1ons of in-creased value, discounts and be>er service. Although we have access to a mul1tude of new and improved technolog-ical resources, today's business owner must be prepared to write long emails, tweet in less than 140 characters, post on Facebook, update on LinkedIn, maintain rela1onships with their clients and con1nue to pro-spect for new customers. Now today’s business owner must also be comfortable appearing on a Skype call or appearing in a company's YouTube channel or siAng down for an interview with those calling themselves media. It's a mul1-media world we either hire the talent to make it happen and/or be able to communicate our messages intelli-gently to our communi1es, wherever they are and whatever plaCorm they choose to hear it. Whether or not we've got something relevant to say is some1mes beside the point. Today’s business owner must be on call 24/7 and totally mobile. There’s no such thing as "out of office" anymore. They are expected to respond to emails, texts, tweets and calls within minutes of receiving. We get hundreds of messages via phones, tablets, laptops and wireless connec-1ons are everywhere. Twenty plus years ago it wasn’t uncommon to lit-erally make calls from outside payphones at gas sta1ons. In those days we had our weekends mostly free and unfortunately those days are long gone. I’m con1nually intrigued by people who see the challenge, want to find the solu1on and give of their 1me and talent to make their business flourish. It takes a different breed to con1nually be recrea1ng their busi-ness model so that they can be the best in this highly compe11ve mar-ket con1nually building and mo1va1ng their bright and crea1ve team. Our customers have changed the climate in which we do business that is undeniable. However as members of the chamber we are con1nuing to enhance the tools we offer in an effort to help you grow with the ever changing market place. Our business assistance program through Castle Rock Economic Gardening provides you the opportunity for free one-on-one business counseling with seasoned experts; Third Tech Tuesday’s are quite popular as they address many of the social media tools; in ad-di1on to our monthly BIZ BUILDER Lunch ‘n Learn diverse business-related topic trainings. A perfect solu1on for office-bound staff is on-line training op1ons. The Chamber staff is here to help your business so that you can address your customer’s needs, give us a call.

Whether you are bragging to your co-workers about your score in the Chamber’s 2015 Golf Tournament on June 22nd or the fact that your boss let you play the award-winning golf course, Red Hawk Ridge, where the annual tournament was played this year in Castle Rock, the commentary is the same. Simply spectacular!
And that is just what the day held for a field of 128 players who enjoyed a perfect day with temperatures extremely comfortable in the low 80’s. The winning foursome from Plum Creek Church: Gary Partridge, Brian McCloy, Kyle Freedman, & Jonathan Wi>; managed to stay fo-cused amid the Front Range vistas and turned in a score of 57, or 15 under par, to win the coveted traveling trophy. Second place honors with a respectable 59, went to the Sky Ridge Medical Center team of Laurie Jeddeloh, Terry Jeddeloh, John Edgerly, & Jack Johnstone.
One Clear Choice Garage Door served as Title Spon-sor, along with Rocky Mountain Insurance Advisors as the trophy sponsor and Black Hills Energy as the lunch sponsor. The Pepsi PuAng Challenge, a new addi1on to our tournament, offered fabulous prizes sponsored by Pepsi. Eight lucky pu>ers had the fi-nesse to sink the challenge pu> to be entered into the prize drawing. One lucky winner walked away with Brad Paisley Concert 1ckets, Jeff Pelley won the Von Miller autographed football, Jim Mundle snagged the Popcorn machine, and Steve Spencer walked away with the vintage R2-D2 cooler.
Contest winners included: Men's Longest Drive: Andy Heese; Longest Pu>: Brian McCloy; Closest to the Pin: Dan Luebcke; and Women's Longest Drive: Melissa Mares. Unfortunately, nobody was lucky enough to drive away with a shiny new car offered as the Hole-in-One prize by Medved Autoplex of Castle Rock. Other generous sponsors included: Castle Rock Adven1st Hospital, ANB Bank, IREA, Castle Rock Bank, Castle Rock Development Company, Firstbank of Douglas County, NAPA Auto Parts, Sky Ridge Medical Center, and Nytech Hea1ng and Cooling. Sponsorship contribu1ons help make these events possible, and we would like to thank you all for your support.
Many courses boast a signature hole or two, but Red Hawk Ridge presented golfers with one breathtaking view aUer another. Nestled in the Rocky Mountain foothills, many tees feature sweeping panoramas of Castle Rock, surrounding bu>es and the Colorado Rockies. Learn more and book your tee 1me today at www.redhawkridge.com.

Amp Up Your Team's Customer Service
Thursday, July 9, 2015 Time: 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Castle Rock Chamber Speaker: Joe Weber Owner/Operator Good customer service every day by every single member of your team is vital to the overall health of your business. Excellent customer service pays big dividends. 1. Service is what customers remember. Your employ-ee "is" your company. Through daily interac1ons, customers may remember your company fondly - or you may lose a customer and gain bad press. 2. Customer service reflects heavily on your en1re business. If you offer great customer service, people assume you have great products - and vice versa. Plus, they feel confident that if they experience a problem, you will give them the help needed. 3. Excellent customer service shows customers you care. Customers who feel as though a company cares about them are more likely to refer others and become repeat customers. 4. It's a great marke1ng angle. When real-life customers talk about how great your customer service is, those reviews and tes1monials serve as a powerful marke1ng message.

Angela Formby, along with her hus-band Bryan, jumped at the oppor-tunity to relocate to Colorado, in 2010, and have enjoyed exploring new opportuni1es for their family. They have a 14 year old son who excels in music and looks forward to high school…well, that last state-ment may be a bit of an exaggera-1on, he is a teenager aUer all… In her free 1me, Angela enjoys study-ing the history, tradi1ons and lan-guage of Germany, a significant part of her heritage. Angela and her fam-ily love living in and being part of the Castle Rock community.
Angela has been a member of the DCF Guns’ family for nearly three years as the Opera1ons Manager and Compliance Officer. While her primary responsibili1es of ATF and OSHA compliance allow her the op-portunity to work in a challenging environment, the community ser-vice aspect of personal, family, and community safety are what she finds the most rewarding. Addi1onally, the opportuni1es she's been given
to lend a voice in support of our 2nd Amendment rights are invaluable and she hopes to help mold legisla1on.
Angela is honored to be part of this team as both the store and indus-try grow and change. She extends a gra1tude of thanks to the own-ers of DCF Guns and the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce for allow-ing her the opportunity to represent and support business in our com-munity. Our Chamber Ambassadors encourage and support new busi-nesses which enriches our community in countless ways. Congratula-1ons to Angela Formby for being recognized as our Ambassador of the Month.
We applaud her efforts to support and promote local businesses in our community!
Thank you Angela, for all you do to support and promote the Castle Rock Chamber. We greatly
appreciate your outstanding efforts!

June Business of the Month—Castle Country Assisted Living The Castle Rock Chamber honors Castle Country Assisted Living as our June Business of the Month recipient. For more than fourteen years, Castle Country Assisted Living has been a member of the Castle Rock Chamber. Castle Country Assisted Living oper-ates three homes for seniors, Valley House and Cantril House in down-town Castle Rock and Victorian House in neighboring Parker. Their homes are communi1es of unique individuals brought together as family. Opened in 1989 by three nurses with the goal of suppor1ng local seniors unable to live alone but desiring to maintain their inde-pendence, our communi1es con1nue to earn awards and recogni1on for their special mix of expert care in a fami-ly, home-like seAng. They were named “Best of the Best” four 1mes by the well-known Assisted Living Federa1on of America, a na1onally-recognized senior living organiza1on. Castle Country was one of only 15 senior communi-1es na1onwide selected for this honor, and the only Colorado community to ever receive this pres1gious na1onal award. Their staff strives to offer the same care found at larger organiza1ons but with a special twist—for them, residents are like family, the care is compassionate, and the lifestyle is vibrant and full. Each day, residents have the opportunity to enjoy new ac1vi1es and life-enriching events, including concerts, theater, musical and comedy performances, art classes, socials and more. Through these diverse programs, they aim to create new possibili1es for a quality life. As a member of the chamber for nearly 15 years, they greatly value this long1me rela1onship; the chamber con1nues to connect Castle Country with community partners and volunteers to help them be>er serve their residents and area seniors.
