Summary Conclusion

John Doe According to an editorial appearing in the March 21, 1994 issue of Newsweek, “Today’s urban environment creates great pressures on pets, requiring increased vigilance to such ordinary matters as their diets. Indeed, proper nutrition now is recognized by pet experts as the single most important element of pet care.”

James Humes, Prof. of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California at Davis, published his book, Pet Care Today in 1995. He concluded: “Unless one is a professional breeder of pure breed animals, it is essential to seek spaying and neutering services. The alternative is pet overpopulation and the unfortunate reliance on euthanasia of unwanted mixed breed animals.”

Writing in the October 1997 issue of Pet World, James Froude, Prof. of Veterinary Medicine at M.I.T., explained: “Pets--especially those living with owners in cities--often need more exercise than they receive. Fortunately, for some pets, such as cats, it is easy to supply exercise since the pets will do so independently if given freedom. Others, such as dogs, require that their

masters take them for regular walks and outings.”
