Spatial Inequality of Detroit and Mexico City

Spatial Inequality Definition The unequal distribution of wealth or

resources in a geographic area so that some places are richer then others.

Detroit WealthyThis is a picture of a wealthy house you may find in Detroit. This is a nice house compared to most other houses you will find in Detroit. The people living in the surrounding neighborhoods don’t have as much protection and can be dangerous. For people living in this area, it is very dangerous to just walk your dog or play outside without being in danger. This house is very big and in nice condition for the area.

Detroit Poor

This house is a common house you will see when you are in Detroit. It is very small and not in the best condition. These neighborhoods have few livable houses. People who live in these houses don’t have enough protection from danger. Things like shootings, graffiti and robberies happen often. It is not a safe place for kids.

Mexico City Wealthy This is a picture of an upper class house in Mexico City. Not many people live in a wealthy house like this. People that live here enjoy a luxurious standard of living. Many people live with security systems, have jobs like businesses and have educations. They can afford things like cell phones and televisions. Some of the people are struggling to maintain a good life like this.

Mexico City PoorThis is a town of small houses you will see when you are in Mexico City. These are examples of working poor houses. Many of these housing lack electricity and running water. People who live in these types of houses have more than one job. They work as maids, dishwashers, cooks, construction workers, street vendors or bus drivers. Life for the working poor in Mexico City is a struggle.
