Hitler’s Secret Weapons
By: Patrick MillerSean
Hitler was the leader of the Nazi party in Germany.
Started World War II by invading Poland in 1939.
As a strong leader, Hitler manipulated his followers to aid the war in any way possible.
About Hitler
http://ahitler.greyfalcon.us/
During World War II, Hitler
was obsessed with developing a “wonder weapon” that would win the war.
Hitler gathered the top scientist in Germany and conquered territories to begin developing a secret weapon for Nazi Germany(Horten 229).
During World War II

The first stealth jet fighter plane as well as the
first all wing plane developed. Designers of the Horten Ho 229 was two
brothers, Walter and Reimar Horten, who were part of Hitler’s Youth Program(Horten 229).
The Horten Ho229

Was developed to achieve a three 1000’s
standard. Be able to travel 1000km/hr, for 1000km, with a load of 1000 kg.
Achieved distance and load but only reached speed of 977km/hr(Alex).

Although it meet all
expectations, the plan wasn’t perfected until 1945 (Horten 229).
Germany had exhausted all its resources upon completion.
Unable to put into production.
Falling Short

If the Horten Ho 229 was mass produced by
the Germany then they would have ruled the air over the dominate British Royal Air Force.
Domination in the air would have undoubtedly change the tide during the war giving Germany and Hitler more of a fighting chance.
If Developed

Another great secret
weapon the Nazi Germany was developing was the Taifun.
Opposite to the Horten Ho 229, the Taifun was designed to be an anti-aircraft weapon.
The designer was Scheufeln, a range officer at Peenemunde (United States).

The rocket was 1.93m by 10cm in diameter Propelled by a mixture of nitric acid and
optolin. Was equipped to a 88mm gun mount. Up 30 rockets on a single platform. The rockets are fired upon approaching enemy
aircrafts (Taifun(rocket)).
Taifun Details
The Taifun’s simple design
was affective but didn’t have the opportunity to prove itself.
Two million ordered to be manufactured.
However, only around hundred thousand were produced (Taifun(rocket)).
Taifun Short Comming

Failed development of
Taifun exposed Nazi’s weakness.
Germany lacked efficient defense (Documentoslim).
Deficient Defense allowed allies to attack.

The rocket was 45ft 11in. long by 5ft. 5in in
diameter. Weighed in around 27,600lbs with about
2,000lb of explosives. Had a launching range from 200mi to 225min Reaches a max speed of 3,580mph.
V2 Rocket
v2rocket.com
He was the lead designer of the V-2 Rocket Was arrested by SS for talking too much about
rockets that would orbit earth and even go to the moon (Bellis).
After the war he was recruited by the US to work on their space program (Bellis) He went on to develop the rocket that would eventually take man to the moon.
Wernher von Braun
The V2 with 2200lbs of explosives could
destroy a entire city block. Would strike without people being
warned since they traveled at supersonic speed (V2Rocket.com)
Planned to increase range to hit cities across the Atlantic to hit New York and Washington D.C. (Edwards)
Possible Affect of V2
(V2rocket.com)
First successful test was on October 1943; but,
wasn’t used in combat until September 1944 (Edwards)
By this time British people had become accustomed to conventional bombing. “The guidance system wasn’t accurate, many rockets fell into the sea or on open countryside”(Edwards) In the end, more people died building the V-2
rockets than were killed by them. (Edwards)
Why the V2 Wasn’t Effective
“In December of 1938 two German physicists
were the first to witness the fissioning of an Atomic nucleus” (Bernstien
Hitler wanted to be able to wipe out any city of his choosing with this one bomb (Walker). Their bomb was to use uranium 235 The lead designers were Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann
Hitler’s Atomic Bomb
Mark Walker
The Atomic bomb single handedly could have
won the war for the Germans. The two allied atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed around 150,000-246,000 people. Days later the Japanese surrendered. Same result would have happened if the German’s dropped atomic bombs on America and Britain.
Effects of The Bomb
bubblews.com
In 1943 the American’s were the first to
created a fully functioning reactor (Bernstien) The Allies bombed the radioactive producing
site for the Germany effort (Walker) The Germans were not focused on completing
the bomb until late in the war which was too late (Walker)
Why The bomb wasn’t Produced
The Germans didn’t dedicate enough finical
support towards the program. The Manhattan project required nearly
160,000 people and 2 billion dollars. Germany had only about 100 people and a couple million dollars towards the program.
Other Reasons
wikipedia.org
The biggest challenge of all on the atomic
bomb was the physicists themselves. Carl Von Weizsacker said “I Believe that the
reason we didn’t do it was because all the physicists didn’t want to do it, on principle. If we had all wanted Germany to win the war we would have succeeded” (Easley)
Atomic Bomb Developers
Although Hitler’s scientist had many wonder
weapon ideas, non proved to be too successful.
Common sources of failure is lack of money and lack of man power.
Furthermore, the secrecy of Nazi Germany didn’t allow for original ideas to flourish.
Conclusion
+ = Victory
Everything we know and love would be
different and Hitler wouldn’t have stopped until the world was under his control.
