Booking form and further informationYoga and Yoga Therapy

Yoga is an ancient tradition that increases your strength, flexibility, concentration and focus. It is well known for helping relieve stress and coping with modern living. It has a great variety of techniques and practices, including laying, sitting and standing postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama) and relaxation (meditation).

The style of yoga on this weekend is gentle hatha yoga, and is based on healing and rejuvenating the body. It is a practice that gives you energy and leaves you feeling calm and ready for the week ahead. It is suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness and flexibility. It empowers you to look after your own health.

The opportunity of the small group sessions and individual consultations allows for Yoga Therapy. This is the adaptation of yoga practices for people with health considerations. Research provides evidence that it can aid in the alleviation of many different ailments, including back pain, hypertension, heart conditions, asthma, diabetes and stress.

Your yoga teacher

Louise has worked with a wide range of conditions, including people who have asthma, heart disease, chronic fatigue, scoliosis, fibromyalgia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, underactive thyroid, high blood pressure, stress, diabetes, weight and eating disorders, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, menopause, back pain, knee, neck and shoulder injuries.

After 20 years as a yoga practitioner, she’s a qualified yoga teacher with additional training as a Yoga Therapist, fully insured and first aid trained. She’s a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She has a postgraduate diploma in Yoga Therapy (Devon School of Yoga), is currently part way through another postgraduate diploma from YogaCampus and a Masters degree Yoga and Meditation. She is also on the BSY Pilates training course having worked across both traditions for many years

‘Louise is a really good teacher. She is patient and adapts the poses to enable me to enjoy the sessions. I am particularly pleased that she gave me detailed notes to enable me to continue to do yoga at home. Louise also encouraged me to find a class which I have done and am enjoying that too’

What is Pilates?

Regardless of age, ability or fitness level, Pilates is beneficial for everyone. Using gravity and breath, Pilates uses whole body movement targeting specific muscle groups to re-educate movement patterns and rebalance the underlying muscular and structural systems in body.

Page 3: By Rail - Louise Daviessurreyyogaclinic.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Yo… · Web viewIt has a great variety of techniques and practices, including laying, sitting and standing

Poor posture and alignment (how our body parts function in relation to each other) and imbalanced muscular tensions (from habit or injury) are corrected by performing specific, controlled movements.

Practised regularly and correctly Pilates will help with the following:

Improved balance and co-ordination Tone and flexibility Reduced levels of back and other muscle strain Injury prevention Core stability and strength Increased range of movement

Your Pilates teacher

After years of enjoying the benefits of Pilates Jenny Elms trained with the Body Control Pilates® Association, widely seen

as the benchmark for safe and effective teaching.

Jenny’s main goal through Pilates is to work on the deep architectural structure of the body to achieve and maintain 'core stability'. Body Control Pilates literally teaches you to be in control of your body, and can work for everyone regardless of fitness level!

Assessing your needs

When you start Yoga or Pilates for the first time, we review your health and lifestyle and (on this basis) provide you with a prognosis and a recommended course of action.

We ask you to

1. Complete the attached form explaining any condition(s)2. Do some simple stretches and movements with your teacher observing you (on your

own or in a group).3. Have a personal consultation usually lasts 30-45 minutes (individually or in a pair)

Following your consultation, suitable Yoga and Pilates practices are shown to you. You’ll practice these over the weekend to get familiar with them and gain confidence. Your Personalised programme to take home is designed specifically for your needs. Including:

- Recommended practices together with their full instructions and diagrams, - A planner to help you stay motivated and complete your practice, - MP3 or CD of recordings for relaxation and specific breathing practices.

‘Absolutely excellent sessions, custom made allowing for all my restrictions and very beneficial’

‘Louise was an excellent teacher. She listened to me and what I wanted to achieve and worked with me accordingly. Her friendly and professional approach made yoga great fun’
