At the start of a new year it is important for teachers to establish a posi- tive classroom environment where students feel safe, supported and ready to learn. This includes reinforcing clear boundaries for behaviour and high expectations for learning. Classes are establishing their class routines and the expec- tations required for everyone to learn. This helps to ensure teachers can get on with teaching and students can learn. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES SCHOOL On Monday, all teachers and support staff participated in a professional learning session to learn about ‘Restorative Practices’ which help to create the conditions for optimum learning. Building positive, respectful relationships is a criti- cal key to this approach. At Batchelor Area School we encourage all parents and carers to work with the school and help reinforce these expectations with their children. Parents can help at the start of the school year by ensuring their child: Gets to bed early on a school night Has a clean uniform to wear Has eaten a healthy breakfast Comes to school with a healthy recess and lunch or money to order healthy food from the canteen Gets to school on time and attends every day INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR BAS prides itself as being a school with respectful, responsible and hardworking students. While the focus is on positive and preventive whole school approaches, certain types of behaviour are unacceptable. Inappropriate behaviour includes back answering, swearing, refusing to work, hurting oth- ers physically or verbally, dangerous acts, threatening, bullying and damaging property. The school follows a behaviour management process to follow up on any inappropriate behaviour and uses ‘Restorative Practices’ to assist students to resolve conflict and restore relationships. MOBILE PHONES / DEVICES BAS has a ‘no mobile phones at school’ policy. If your child has to have a mobile phone at school, please remind them they need to leave it at the front office in the morning and collect it again after school. If a teacher has to remove a mobile device from class we ask that parents come to collect it. Your support in this regard is most ap- preciated. UNIFORM Please make sure your child comes to school wearing the school shirt, black shorts or skirt, shoes (closed in shoes, not thongs) and a black hat. If they are not able to wear the uniform please send them to school with a note or contact the office. Thank you for your continued support with this. CLASS LETTERS Teachers will be sending home class letters over the next week for your information. It is important that parents and carers make the time to talk to their child’s class teacher at the beginning of the year. When the home and school work together and develop strong positive relationships, students’ learning results increase. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you would like to discuss any issues or have any concerns. Dear Parents and Families

We have had a great start to the school year. At the start of a new year it is important for teachers to establish a posi-tive classroom environment where students feel safe, supported and ready to learn. This includes reinforcing clear boundaries for behaviour and high expectations for learning. Classes are establishing their class routines and the expec-tations required for everyone to learn. This helps to ensure teachers can get on with teaching and students can learn. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES SCHOOL

On Monday, all teachers and support staff participated in a professional learning session to learn about ‘Restorative Practices’ which help to create the conditions for optimum learning. Building positive, respectful relationships is a criti-cal key to this approach. At Batchelor Area School we encourage all parents and carers to work with the school and help reinforce these expectations with their children. Parents can help at the start of the school year by ensuring their child:

Gets to bed early on a school night Has a clean uniform to wear Has eaten a healthy breakfast Comes to school with a healthy recess and lunch or money to order healthy food from the canteen Gets to school on time and attends every day
