Hello everyone, Welcome to the last week of the term! Time seems as though it has gone by very quickly this year. I hope everyone had a happy Easter holiday break and are ready for the end of term school holidays. Students have worked very well this term and I am pleased with the efforts of teachers and students, producing evidence of high quality teaching and learning. Another highlight for me this term is the great start our Pre-schoolers and Transition students have made this year. This contributes significantly to our school culture and is evident from the high expectations our early years teachers have embedded with their students. I trust everyone will have a safe and happy holiday period and it’s a well deserved one for our students and staff here at KSPS. PLP’s Thank you to all parents who had taken the opportunity to meet with their child and their child’s teacher to develop a student persoanlised learning plan for this semester. This plan will detail the student’s learning goals and strategies for students to have the opportunity to meet these targets. This plan also ensures there are no surprises for students and parents when it’s time for Semester 1 reporting. NT Learning Commission Six students from Years 5 and 6 have been identified to represent Katherine South Primary School in the NT Learning Commission. Riley Wigan, Ebony Rumsby, Erin Dahl, Liam Short, Iain Sutherland and Laketa Campbell attended a professional development day last Thursday with myself and Mr Short at Clyde Fenton Primary School. Approximately 30 other selected students attended the day to connect with each other and identify common areas for learning improvement across the Katherine Region. The purpose of the students work will be to engage students across Katherine in meaningful learning. The commission will work with selected teachers to ensure their work is being valued and to influence education for the better. Thus far our students in the Learning Commission have done a great job in identifying areas they would like to see change in education and this will inform their project work. Teacher Planning Days This week our teachers will have a day off their class to meet with their cohort colleagues to work together to plan next term’s units. This process allows for consistency in teaching and learning across the year level cohorts. The process also allows teachers to meet to discuss student work and to be consistent in grading student work. Yesterday, teachers from classes Transition to grade 2 worked together to plan. Today was years 3 and 4, Thursday will be the years 5 and 6 planning day and Specialist teachers will plan on Friday. CARE Disco Well done to our Stuart House for winning the CARE disco last week!
