Haikou city is the capital of Hainan Province. The name “Haikou” first

appeared in the Song Dynasty and already has a history of more than 900

years. Haikou is the estuary of the Nandu River. Haikou City is neither

extremely cold in the winter, nor extremely hot in the summer. It is green all

year round, and warm and comfortable. It holds many honorary titles such

as “China’s Charming City” and “China’s Happiest City”.

Want to see a distinctive architecture? Come and take a stroll in the

Qilou Old Street. Here you can see many white buildings in the Nanyang

style (Nanyang is an old name for Southeast Asia). These pillared structures

originated from Europe. Hainan has strong sunshine and rainy weather, so

this kind of house becomes very practical since it can keep out the rain and

can provide shade.

rice noodles, spicy soup rice and other street foods. The Qilou Food Street

has the most authentic Hainan taste.
