Chris Eshtay on GuitarSaturday, February 9th, come out and listen to Chris Eshtay on Guitar in the Oak Grill while you enjoy our delicious Saturday Steak Night with $5 off each dine-in steak.
Valentine’s DinnerNaturally, if it’s February, it’s also time for a romantic Valentine’s dinner with chocolate, champagne, music and more! Well, gentlemen we have you covered, because BCCC is offering several chances for that dining opportunity with that special someone by offering our 4-course gourmet Valentine’s Dinner on Thursday, February 14th through Saturday, February 16th (see front cover for details)…and Sitter Service will be available all three evenings. Please note that the live piano entertainment will only be provided on the actual Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14th.
Champagne TastingFor those of you who may wish to enjoy the “tiny bubbles” after Valentine’s Day, BCCC will be hosting a Champagne Tasting on Saturday, February 23rd from 5:30pm – 7pm where attendees will enjoy champagnes and sparkling vintages from around the world along with tasty hors d’oeuvres for just $30/person. Reservations please and Sitter Service will be available.
GolfBCCC’s Golf Calendar is beginning to show signs of a “2019 spring thaw” with the following golf events: (1) an AFC/NFC, 2-Man Ryder Cup format event
on Saturday, February 2nd, (2) a Couples’ Valentine Point Quota event on Sunday, February 10th and (3) the first event of the 2019 BCCC Member Series on Saturday, February 23rd. Sign up is in the Golf Shop.
Mardi Gras 2019Mardi Gras 2019 is upon us with its festivities from colorful parades to formal balls. In keeping with the Mardi Gras season, BCCC is providing a number of options for your consideration:
• The Krewe of Eve rolls on Friday, February 22nd while the Krewe of Orpheus rolls on Friday, March 1st (both at 7pm) and BCCC has a splendid catering menu for parade attendees. Let us do the cooking while you do the bead snatching!
• If your preference is to avoid the traffic snarls and parade routes, then there is no better place to get away from it all than remaining within the friendly confines of your Beau Chêne CC for dinner-n-drinks! We have it all from Happy Hour to Bar Bites to delicious burgers to hand-cut choice steaks to mouth-watering seafood delicacies and more.
• Mardi Gras (Tuesday, March 5th) will be celebrated with a traditional bountiful buffet dinner from 5 to 8pm (see page 8 for details from Chef David).
• Finally, let us entertain young (kids are out of school) and old alike on Ash Wednesday (March 6th) with a special Bingo Family Night Buffet featuring an authentic Crawfish Boil and BCCC’s Fried Chicken!
Kids’ Summer CampClearly, this next announcement is very early, but given that:(1) the “early bird” registration discount is generous ($20/child/week if signed up prior to April 15th) and (2) the prior year’s popularity of our kids’ summer camp was significant…don’t let the deadline sneak up on you to sign up your youngsters for the Beau Chêne CC Summer Kids’ Camps that will run for seven weeks this summer!
Thank You for your ServiceGood things happen to good people and clearly that is the case as we say goodbye to two key BCCC team members who have accepted promising opportunities for their futures. We have been blessed to work with both Membership Director Michelle Gilchrist and Childcare Director Ariane Hawkins, and we wish to thank them for their outstanding contributions to Beau Chêne. Please be assured that we are conducting comprehensive searches for their replacements…and announcements will be forthcoming.
Club Update – Part 2Indulge me please. Last month, I recounted the many capital investments/projects that have been made re: the facilities of your Beau Chêne Country Club. This month, I would like to do the same with some of the operational improvements in the Club within just the last two years:
• Complimentary Fitness Classes and Sitter Services are offered to Fitness members.
• Swipe access cards were added to provide our members with after-staffing hours entry to various Club facilities.
• KE Camps was hired to provide a high quality summer camp experience for our members and guests. Note: For the fifth consecutive year, KE Camps has been recognized by Boardroom Magazine with their Award of Excellence for Club Program of the Year nationwide!
• Club Corp Alliance – at no cost to the members – was added as a member benefit providing access to over 300 exceptionally high quality country and city clubs around the country.
• Members now have access to hundreds of fitness and tennis facilities across the country as a result of our joining IHRSA (International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association), again at no cost to the membership.

t the beginning of each calendar year the BCLGA members are divided into two teams, the
Hookers and the Slicers, according to their handicaps.
On the first Wednesday of each month a team play event is held. Individual points are accumulated for one’s team as follows: 1 point for net bogie, 2 points for net par, 3 points for net birdie, and 4 points for net eagle. At the end of the year team points are totaled and the results are announced at the annual Christmas Luncheon. Also at
the luncheon the following year’s team captains are announced. Captains earn their spot by being the individual high point winner for each team that year.
In January the losers buy lunch for the winners at the Hooker/Slicer Luncheon. The annual luncheon was held on January 16, 2019. A good time was had by all. Thank you Nancy Wagner and Beverly Flynt for a great year!

Let me introduce our Fitness Member of the Month, Marilyn Sewell. Marilyn was also our winner of our Holiday Attendance Challenge! Congratulations Marilyn!
I met Marilyn not too long after I started teaching at the Club when she attended several of the classes I taught. I then found out that not only was she coming to my class, but also several other classes on the same day! Whew, that wore me out just thinking about it. Marilyn inspires me every time I see her. She inspires me to be a better teacher; I always try to challenge her to do a little bit more, to get a little stronger every time she comes to class. Marilyn is in amazing shape and I absolutely love trying to keep her challenged in class. She is a regular at the gym and everyone who knows her, loves her. She is beautiful inside and out and we are very fortunate to have her as a frequent member at the Fitness Center. Having Marilyn around has helped motivate many members to push themselves just a little more. Thanks Marilyn for allowing us to highlight you!
How long have you been a Beau Chêne Fitness Member? I joined the day they opened. What made you decide to join the Fitness Center? The convenience of it, it’s so close to my house it’s very accessible. Did you have any fitness or weight loss goals? If so, what were they? I wanted to build more muscle.

My favorite part of the Center is the fitness classes. How important is nutrition to you? What diet do you follow? I don’t follow any special diet. I try to eat healthy and stay away from carbs. How do you feel incorporating fitness into your lifestyle has helped in other ways besides physically? Golf Course Newsby Ted Smith, Director of Agronomy
can’t believe it’s been 5 years since taking over as the Director of Agronomy for the golf courses and grounds! With your loyal support,
our team has been able to elevate course conditions and we will continue to make strides in 2019 to improve overall playability and aesthetics.
This month (weather permitting), we plan to finish renovating the greenside bunkers on #10 and #11 of the Magnolia Course. To prevent major washouts and help preserve the functional integrity of the bunkers, we will slightly modify their shape by adding soil and sod to the steep slopes. When the reshaping is finished, all new drainage and sand will be installed. We are also in the process of filling in the fairway bunker on #10 of the Magnolia Course. Instead of filling in the bunker to match the existing mounding, we plan to keep the concave shape and add three catch basins to ensure adequate drainage. After the sod is installed, a “true” grass bunker will exist.
I In January, we were able to remove and replace 160 feet of broken cart path on #1 Oak. Instead of replacing the path with concrete, we used fine limestone gravel. After the gravel is compacted, it creates a seamless transition that is firm and smooth. It matches the color of the concrete and most importantly, will never crack.
In addition to our special projects, we will also commence spraying our first pre-emergent herbicide application of the year to prevent crabgrass, goosegrass and other unsightly summer annual weeds.
As a friendly reminder, please remember to adhere to cart path rulings, repair ball marks on greens and fill your divots with sand. Following these rules and practicing proper course etiquette will go a long way in helping us maintain course conditions. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free send an email to [email protected].
Best regards,Ted Smith, Director of Agronomy

What would you say to people who are residents but not Fitness Members at Beau Chêne? I strongly encourage residents to join the Fitness Center. I think they would be impressed by the programming, the knowledge and experience of the trainers. Do you have any advice you can offer to those who want to start with a fitness program but just can’t seem to make that first step? I would start off with a personal trainer and small goals.
