  • Cabelas Mission Statement As the World's Foremost Outfitter, we passionately serve people who enjoy the outdoor lifestyle by delivering innovation, quality, and value in our products and services. The future vision for Cabelas is too expanded with the numbers of retail stores, and continue to focus on being a direct marketer for other outdoors equipment. Also with the online shopping trend they have created a Cabelas Visa@ rewards card which keep in touch with customers that are unable to travel to a retail store

  • Structure It is a board of directors, the chairman is James W Cabelas, the brother of founder Dick Cabelas. It is a Polycentric structure, they promote employees up the ranks of the company

  • Locations Cabelas has retail stores in the United States and Canada so not having many stores in different counties really hurts how global they are, they do allow for international shipping but they do not have a retail store overseas.
  • Slide 9
  • Global Challenges Cabelas has a few global challenges, they just do not have any store locations overseas. Offer hunting trips in Europe and Africa but they do not feel the need to expand the company to a huge global market. They continue to focus on adding store locations in the U.S and Canada.

  • Work Schedule Yes, just like any big retail store the employees work in 7 hour shifts and are allowed to switch shifts with another employee if it is a mutual agreement Store hours are: Monday-Saturday 8:00 AM- 9:00PM Sunday 9:00AM-8:00PM
  • Slide 12
  • Company Culture They have the outdoorsy feel and a unique culture, they try to make a culture that makes the people feel like they are a part of something. The unique culture is what draws people to the store
  • Slide 13
  • Social Responsibility Cabelas feels like they have a responsibility to pass on the outdoors tradition to future generations, and to allow those that are unable to get out in the outdoors to make it accessible to them
  • Slide 14
  • Cultural issues Cabelas are centered on the Midwest and they do not appeal to people on the east coast, they are not full a sporting goods store. They specialize in outdoors activities like hunting and fishing.
  • Slide 15
  • Company plans Cabelas appeals to more of a Midwest rural male, they do not have products that would be used by an individual living in the middle of New York City. Also they are not located in any other countries besides the United States and Canada. They have their target market and stick with it other than try to expand into new markets
  • Slide 16
  • The Cabelas Innovation Cabelas are innovative in a few different ways, they are the first store to product their own brand labeled products and also stock the shelves with their companion acting like as a retail store. Also they are the first outdoors company to have a website that sells products, they started the website in 1998. Also they offer guided hunting trips to various locations and design their own video games series, something which none of their competitors do. They continue to come out with new designs of their products each year and find new products to design and put their name on.
  • Slide 17
  • SWOT Strengths- wide range of products, strong loyal customer base, in a wide range of different types of markets for the outdoors Weakness- Not many retail locations, not appealing to all individuals, only located in 2 different countries Opportunities-Continue to grow guiding service, still can expand into new locations, expand into different markets like sporting goods Threats- Gander Mountain, Scheels, Bass Pro Shop, all these sell products cheaper but Cabelas tries to beat that by selling quality or quantity Technology has helped Cabelas in the past, their online website was a huge success, and they continue to make new products that have the latest technology, overall technology has done good for them, Economy has an affect because during the recession people were not going to spend their money at such an expensive store, but they have bounced back their stock price is 67 dollars a share and rising. Demographics has hurt them in the past because lack of retail stores. Online shopping has really helped with that situation and they continue to look into new areas to expand the number of retail stores. Consumers are always interest if they hunt and fish, they always have the newest stuff and even though they might not buy a product they will look to see whats available
  • Slide 18
  • Threats Companies: Gander Mountain, Bass Pro shop, Scheels, Dick sporting goods I feel like during a rescission it is important for managers to put on more sales and lower the prices of the prices so that they are close to the competitors.
  • Slide 19
  • Company goals Expanding locations would be the first one, and then sales would be second. Set a number higher each quarter in sales is always a good goal. The one goal cabalas always has each quarter is to make sure that they make the customer happy and try to sell the best product possible. Making sure the customer is happy is always the number one goal for the company. it is what they built the mission statement and company around
  • Slide 20
  • Opportunities Cabelas has always been innovative as far as finding different products to market. But they need to keep up with the technology and still be able to provide the best products for customers. They have some of the best engineers in the business that help design Cabelas products, also they stay in touch with Professional outdoorsman to see what they want out of the products they use. Expanding into new locations, that is always an opportunity for the company

  • Controlling the organization Like any organization, the best bet for controlling the organization would be by using the 3 step controlling process. Measuring actual performance, taking managerial action, comparing actual performance against standard and setting up goals and objectives. SAP has helped Cabelas with this by keeping up inventory and by seeing what sales rep has sold the most product. If I was managing a Cabelas store I would compare the sales of certain products that have a group like an ice auger in the fall right before the season start with what we sold last fall and see how well we did. If we did not do that well this year I would look at the performance at our sale reps and see if there is a difference. Also if a product is struggling would have a sale on the item to move more product and see if it would turn a better product. This would be on of the techniques I would use.
  • Slide 22
  • Value Chain management Cabelas benefits from the value chain strategy by using technology investment They use this to design and produce the latest products in the industry and by selling the latest products also
  • Slide 23
  • Some recent news about Cabelas Cabelas are opening up three new store locations The locations are Short Pump Virginia, Ammon Idaho, Fort Oglethorpe Georgia
  • Slide 24
  • Sap SAP designs software using computers to fit a businesss needs. They help business with pretty much anything that would make they operate a lot smoother. Cabelas uses SAP to organize inventory in all of the stores including the online website and in the warehouses. They can track were the product moves and at what price.
  • Slide 25
  • ERP ERP integrates internal and external managerial information for a company. This technology makes it easier for business to keep in touch with what is going on inside and outside the organization. Cabelas can use this by looking at certain trends of what is selling in stores and planning what to put on the shelves. Then this software will organize inventory and will keep track of who is selling the most product on the floor. The retail store can put the best sales reps on the floor in charge of handling the customers. Then they can use the control process to look at the performance against other retail stores and see how well they actually did.
