A CALL TO HOLINESS BY
POPE FRANCIS.
175. When, in God’s presence, we examine our life’s journey, no areas can be off limits. In all aspects of life we can continue to grow and offer something greater to God, even in those areas we find most difficult. We need, though, to ask the Holy Spirit to liberate us and to expel the fear that makes us ban him from certain parts of our lives. God asks everything of us, yet he also gives everything to us. He does not want to enter our lives to cripple or diminish them, but to bring them to fulfilment. Discernment, then, is not a solipsistic self-analysis or a form of egotistical introspection, but an authentic process of leaving ourselves behind in order to approach the mystery of God, who helps us to carry out the mission to which he has called us, for the good of our brothers and sisters.

A Father’s Day Blessing
Blessed is the Father who lets the Lord
be his guiding hand, whose faith brings
his family courage, whose wisdom comes
from God, and whose children still stand
and honor him.
Giving Thanks for Our Fathers
“We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in
our lives.
Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and
reality teaches us that some fathers excel while
others fail.
We ask for Your blessings for them all – and
forgiveness where it is needed.
This Father’s Day we remember the many sacrifices
fathers make for their children and families, and the
ways – both big and small – they lift children to
achieve dreams thought beyond reach.
So too, we remember all those who have helped fill
the void when fathers pass early or are absent –
grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins,
teachers, pastors and coaches – and the women of
our families.
For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and
humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give
them the strength to do well by their children and by
You.
In Your Holy name, O God, we pray. Amen.”

A FATHER MEANS…so many things…
An understanding heart, a source of strength and of
support right from the very start. A constant readiness to
help in a kind and thoughtful way. With encouragement
and forgiveness no matter what comes your way. A
special generosity and always affection, too, a Father
means so many things when he’s a man like you…
Father's Day Prayer
God our Father, in your wisdom and love
you made all things.
Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers.
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of
profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen unknown
My Earthly Dad
With these three words,
"Dear Heavenly Father,"
I begin my every prayer, but the man I see
while on bended knee is always my earthly dad.
He is the image of the Father divine
reflecting the nature of God,
for his love and care and the faith he shared
pointed me to my Father above. --Mary Fairchild

TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH June 21, 2020
ORDER OF WORSHIP OPENING SONG Glory and Praise To Our God Dan Schutte
Refrain: Glory and praise to our God, who alone gives light to our days. Many are the blessings he bears to those who trust in his ways. 1. We, the daughters and sons of him who built the valleys and plains, praise the wonders our God has done in ev’ry heart that sings. R 2. In his wisdom he strengthens us, like gold that’s tested in fire. Though the power of sin prevails, our God is there to save. R 3. Ev’ry moment of ev’ry day our God is waiting to save, always ready to seek the lost, to answer those who pray. R 4. God has watered our barren land and spent his merciful rain. Now the rivers of life run full for anyone to drink. R
PENITENTIAL RITE.
GLORY TO GOD.
OPENING PRAYER. + + LITURGY OF THE WORD + +
FIRST READING: Jeremiah 20:10–13
Jeremiah said: “I hear the whisperings of many: ‘Terror on every side! Denounce! Let us denounce him!’ All those
who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine. ‘Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail, and take
our vengeance on him.’ But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not
triumph. In their failure they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion. O LORD of hosts, you who test
the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you I have entrusted my cause.
Sing to the LORD, praise the LORD, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked!”
PSALM RESPONSE: “Lord, in your great love, answer me”.
SECOND READING: Romans 5:12–15
Brothers and sisters: Through one man sin entered the world, and through sin, death, and thus death came to all men,
inasmuch as all sinned – for up to the time of the law, sin was in the world, though sin is not accounted when there is no
law. But death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin after the pattern of the trespass of Adam, who
is the type o the one who was to come.
But the gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, how much more did the
grace of God and the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christ overflow for the many.
ALLELUIA GOSPEL: Matthew 10:26–33
Jesus said to the Twelve: “Fear no one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be know.
What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be
afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in
Gehenna. Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s
knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before
others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.”
HOMILY
CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. PREPARATION SONG Now We Remain by David Haas
Refrain: We hold the death of the Lord deep in our hearts. Living, now we remain with Jesus, the Christ. 1. Once we were people afraid, lost in the night. Then by your cross we were saved; dead became living, life from your giving. R 2. Something which we have known, something we’ve touched, what we have seen with our eyes; this we have heard; life giving Word. R 3. He chose to give of himself, became our bread. Broken that we might live. Love beyond love, pain for our pain. R 4. We are the presence of God; this is our call. Now to become bread and wine; food for the hungry, life for the weary, for to live with the Lord, we must die with the Lord.

COMMUNION SONG: Shepherd Me, O God by Marty Haugen
REFRAIN: Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life. 1. God is my shepherd so nothing shall I want, I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love, I walk by the quiet waters of peace. R 2. Gently you raise me and heal my weary soul, you lead me by pathways of righteousness and truth, my spirit shall sing the music of your Name. R 3. Though I should wander the valley of death, I fear no evil for you are at my side, your rod and your staff, my comfort and my hope. R 4. You have set me a banquet of love in the face of hatred, crowning me with love beyond my pow’r to hold. R 5. Surely your kindness and mercy follow me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of my God forevermore. R

FINAL BLESSING
CLOSING SONG City of God by Dan Schutte
1. Awake from your slumber! Arise from your sleep! A new day is dawning for all those who weep. The people in darkness have seen a great light. The Lord of our longing has conquered the night. R 2. We are sons of the morning; we are daughters of day. The One who has loved us has brightened our way. The Lord of all kindness has called us to be a light for his people to set their hearts free. R Refrain: Let us build the city of God. May our tears be turned into dancing! For the Lord, our light and our love, has turned the night into day! 3. God is light; in him there is no darkness. Let us walk in his light, his children, one and all. O comfort my people; make gentle your words. Proclaim to my city the day of her birth. R 4. O city of gladness, now lift up your voice! Proclaim the good tidings that all may rejoice. R
