It was nice to see some new members join us for this event. We had 18 riders start the season riding Frisby Friday and Boulder Saturday and Sunday. Dave from Cycle Works joined us for one day. Mat and Don from Mountain Toys brought some demo sleds for the boys to try for a couple of days. Thanks again for your support and guiding us this weekend. I would like to thank the Peaks lodge for taking care of the club and doing a fantastic job of making sure we had a great time!! Pat and his boys have done a lot to make this Lodge a place you’ll want to patronize in the future. The snow conditions were good but the snow pack is low for sure. Looks like we’re back into winter so let’s cross our fingers Mother Nature fuels our rides. Thank you all who participated, great memories and hot tub stories that will keep me smiling. Teamsnap – The New Way to Communicate This year, the Club is using a phone app called Teamsnap for Club Ride notifications and updates. The Calgary Snowmobile Club has purchased a license for the 2017-2018 year that includes access by all Club members for the upcoming year.

We use the Teamsnap calendar feature to show and update upcoming Club Rides and events.

We use the Teamsnap chat feature to better coordinate before and after ride activities for members on club rides like where to meet for supper.

It is easier and much faster for us to update Club Membership about upcoming events and rides using Teamsnap than by traditional email.

The app can be downloaded for free on iPhones and on Android phones (Google Play). All Calgary Snowmobile Club Members with valid email addresses registered in their paid 2017-18 membership can join the Club’s Teamsnap for free. Another reason to join the Club!

Membership Coordinator’s Report Hello all members. We are doing good again this year. We have well over a hundred new or renewed members now and memberships are still coming in. People are buying our Club memberships from dealerships as well. Our goal is for 200 memberships this year. Snow helps bring them on harder and as we all know we lost snow in December. If you are still waiting to renew please remember that on January 1st 2018 it increases $10.00 to $80 for an ASA Trailpass and $20.00 club membership for a total of $100.00. This money goes towards all club programs such as trail maintenance and club programs. Please help the club and snowmobiling across the province by renewing your membership.

Groomer Grouser Bars Supporters Grouser bars are the track cleats on the groomer tracks that give the groomer traction in the snow. There is a way that we all can assist in the groomer project. Donate $100.00 towards a grouser package for the groomer and your name will go on a grouser as well as a plaque with your name on it.

We can accept donations till mid - January then we need to get the names on the groomer. These will be mounted on the snowcat to show all who assisted with a donation towards this project. So far we have had 19 grouser packages donated which goes toward the rebuilding of the tracks. If you’re interested in donating and getting your name up there just contact Glen Gillis at 403 280 3080. Trail’s Committee Coordinator’s Report What can be said about the trails at Cataract Creek? We were all ready to go and the warm weather took the snow away in the valley bottoms. We had hard working volunteers clearing fallen trees and packing the trails for a smooth base. When we again get snow we will get back at it and now we have a new to us groomer set up that will really change the trails out there. Smooth, easy trails to ride will improve all our enjoyment of the area and help promote the area as a fun family area to snowmobile. Cataract Creek Snowmobiling Area is an area in the mountains without the mountain worries of some. The area is trail riding with some steep hills up and down. This area was developed in the late 80s.

(image from Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club Facebook site ) The steep and deeper is also available to get into for those looking for the deep powder experience. The steep and deep area is for experienced riders with all the proper gear and training. The newer modern machines have no problem with the trails in Cataract. Even the older machines can get around easy and still have an enjoyable day out on the trails. This area is still a work in progress and we are still repairing trails from the 2013 flood and years of neglect from the government. We have a few areas that still need repair and we will continue to work with the government and partners to get these repaired over the next few years. Drive smart out there and enjoy your day. Snow is coming and the trails will be taken as best of care as we can. Trails take a huge amount of volunteer work and support from our partners to give our best product to you. Trail groomers don`t run on Fairy Dust and we are looking at fuel costs as a major issue for the year. It all comes down to buying a membership and work together to make it a good day of snowmobiling. Things are possibly going to get better over the years and a link between Cataract and Crowsnest Pass in on our list of expansion. It takes time and a government willing to take the step forward and improve snowmobiling across the province. Snowmobiling tourism is a huge economic generator across the country we can do it here as well. Let’s hope we can get it all together and make it great.
