Joke of the MonthThe Santa Claus at the mall was very surprised when a young lady about twenty years old walked up and sat on his lap.Santa doesn’t usually take requests from adults, but she smiled very nicely at him, so he asked her, “What do you want for Christmas?”“Something for my mother, please.” said the young lady.“Something for your mother? Well, that’s very thoughtful of you,’’ smiled Santa. “What do you want me to bring her? “Without blinking she replied, “A son-in-law!”

Bringing New

Twists To The

Holiday Table

Americans have long celebrated the holiday season with the classic favorite, homemade pumpkin pie. This year, treat family and guests to a delicious new twist on the pumpkin pie standard. Topped with whipped cream and warm Biscoff sauce, this unique recipe elevates the beloved tradition to a new level of indulgence.

Biscoff Pumpkin PiePastry for a 10-inch deep-dish pie shell or 1 refriger-ated rolled pastry

1⁄2 cup Biscoff Spread1⁄2 cup sugar2 large eggs1 (15 oz.) can solid pack pumpkin1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk1 teaspoon cinnamon1⁄2 teaspoon ground ginger1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg

Heat oven to 425˚ F. Line a 10-inch deep-dish pie plate or quiche dish with pastry; flute edges. Whisk together Biscoff Spread, sugar and eggs in a large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients; whisk well and pour into dish.

Bake 10 minutes; reduce oven temperature to 350˚ F. Continue to bake 35 to 40 more minutes or until center is set. Cool on wire rack at least 2 hours before serving at room temperature or chilled with desired topping. Makes 8 servings.

Whipped Cream with Biscoff Spread sauce: In a medium bowl, whip ½ cup whipping cream with a hand mixer until soft peaks form; add sugar to desired taste and whip until stiff peaks form. Heat 1½ cups of Biscoff Spread in microwave for 45 seconds or until melted. Top each slice of pie with whipped cream and drizzle with warm sauce.

Smart, Safe Entertaining Ideas

When the party’s at your place, you can be sure to feel secure that safety is in at-tendance if you follow these tips from the experts at the Electrical Safety Foundation International:• Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and make sure your home is pro-tected by an adequate number of alarms. Alarms should be in stalled on every level of the house and outside each sleeping area. • Share your family fire escape plan with any overnight guests.• Make sure halls, stairs and doorways are properly illuminated and free of clutter that could hinder an escape during a fire emergency. Use night-lights in hallways and bathrooms.• Inspect all decorations, cords and outlets for damage before use. • Avoid overloading electrical outlets, which can overheat and start a fire.• Don’t run electrical cords across doorways or in high-traffic areas, where they pose a tripping hazard.• Keep decorations, gifts and other combustibles at least three feet from heat sources or open flame. • Never leave an open flame unattended, including the fireplace.• Stay in the kitchen when something is cooking. Unattended cooking is a major cause of home fires.• Use space heaters properly and safely. Keep them out of high-traffic and exit areas, and at least three feet from anything that can burn.• Turn off and unplug all decorations before leaving home or turning in for the night.Keep young visitors safe by preparing your home before they arrive: • If your home is not already “childproof,” install tamper-resis tant receptacles or use safety covers on all unused electrical outlets, including extension cords. • Store breakables, candles, matches and other potentially dangerous items in inaccessible or locked areas. • Don’t forget to put away small items, like buttons, coins and jewelry, which are choking hazards. • Use safety gates at the top and bottom of stairways to keep babies and toddlers safe.• Make sure children are supervised at all times in the kitchen and anywhere space heaters, candles or fireplaces are being used.

SAVE MONEY ON HOLIDAY GIFT SHOPPING

With the rising costs of gasoline and heating oil, as well as rising interest rate charges, saving money is at the top of everyone's wish list this holiday season. Here are some tips on getting the most out of your gift shopping dollars this holiday season.

1. Set a budget. This seems like a simple step, but many people fail to do this before starting their holiday shopping. Figure the total amount you can afford to spend on gifts and then divide that number by the total number of people on your list. This gives you the average amount that you should spend on each person.

2. Compare Prices. Some websites even offer customer comments which can give you valu-able information on quality, ease of use, customer service, and overall ratings for many products.

3. Go to websites that give major discounts. These websites offer products at discounts of 50% or more. Selection and quantity may be limited but, if they have what you are looking for, you can save a lot.

4. Shop at Thrift stores or Consignment Shops like the Salvation Army stores. You can find unique items at bargain prices, but be sure to check the quality of all merchandise. Remember, all items are sold "as is" and there are no returns.

5. Make your own gifts. Family members and friends will appreciate the time and thought that you put in to the gift, especially if it's personalized just for them. Some ideas are photo collages, scrapbooks, and framed photos or personalized gift baskets filled with the recipients favorite coffees, teas, candies, jams, and baked goods.

6. If you must shop with Credit cards, use only credit cards with low interest rates.

GETTING READY FOR THE WINTER

Whenever the temperature dips below freezing (32°F), please remem-ber to leave a faucet dripping and the cabinet doors under your sink open.

This will keep water moving through the pipes and

allow warmer air to circulate underneath

the sink, keeping the pipes from

f r e ez ing and bursting.
