What a Great Convention we all just had in Reno! I trust that everyone made it home safe-ly? There were so many new ideas and information to bring back to our Lodges and Chap-ters. Let’s get “Back to Basics” and roll up our sleeves and share all that we learned in

Reno with the members that couldn’t make it to Reno this time! WE can bring a renewed enthusiasm back toour lodges and chapters. So that we may better serve our Communities while caring for our children atMooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven! After all. WE are the fuel that feeds the fire! The engine thatmoves the car! We are the people that get the job done! We were all honored to welcome our Official Visi-tors: Karol Smith, Past Grand Regent and Justice of the Supreme Forum and John Capes, Moosehaven Execu-tive Director. Both of these wonderful Moose Leaders helped us to recharge our batteries and to bring backinformation to our moose homes that we can all use and share. We are grateful for the time they shared withus in Reno. A BIG WELCOME and thank you also goes out to our New Regional Manager Norm Dean! Hebrings new ideas and charisma to our Association. He truly wants us to succeed. And we Will!

While in Reno at the 81st Annual Assn. Convention. The Delegates in Attendance elected and installed anew Executive Board of Officers, Association Chairmen and Committeemen for the 2014-2015 year. Pleasewelcome and I ask that you give them your full support. So that we may better serve you. We only steer theship! You, Moose Brothers and Co-Workers, make it GO! Always remember! “A Burden Heavy to One isborne lightly by many”. If you were not able to attend this convention for one reason or another. Please try toattend our Mid-Winter Conference in March? I’m sure you will find it informative while enjoying fun andfellowship with our Moose Family.

I would be remised if I didn’t thank our new Jr. Past President Bob Mackay for all of his hard work anddedication during his term as President. Bob won’t be going away and for that I am grateful! And of coursethere is Bob’s wife Alice. What a special lady! Thank you for all of your hard work and love that you sharewith others!

Going off the board this year is Past Assn. President Bill Drake. Along with his lovely wife Rhonda, I forone, would like to thank you both. Also going off the Board is our Assn. Secretary Chuck Dombrow. Chuckand his wife Valerie put in many hours, days, and weeks getting all of the important things done for the boardand Assn. on time! Chuck has some big shoes to fill and our new Assn. Treasure Fred Reichelt will do justfine! Last but surely not least. I would like to say thank you to my good friend and mentor Charlie Lopez, forall of his years of service, dedication and wisdom. He too will not be going away. But he is turning a page inhis life. I wish you all the best Charlie!Co-Workers and Brothers, I thank you for all you do and continue to do through your unselfish acts of kind-ness, while Getting Back to Basics! I look forward to serving with you and wish you and your families’ goodhealth and happiness. God Bless Mooseheart and Moosehaven.

Fraternally, Bill Stukes

What Is Your Community Missing?

Would your city or an area be interested in an Organization that cares for the needs of children and se-niors? A group of men that strive to make its community a better place for all of its citizens. And, while doingso, provides an atmosphere of fun and accomplishment for the members of that organization. It is actually easi-er than you would think. We are talking about organizing a Moose Service Center.

Eventually, this Service Center, after acquiring enough members, enough finances along with the desire ofits members, may become a fully operational Moose Lodge. The main difference between a Moose ServiceCenter and a Moose Lodge is that a Moose Service Center may do everything that a Moose Lodge can do ex-cept own or rent property and have a Social Quarters.

Our organization is unique in that we are actually two units in one. We also have chapters for our ladiescalled the Women of the Moose. As soon as a Moose Service Center is established, we are able to form aWomen of the Moose chapter. In our lodges, the men and women work hand in hand to achieve the goals thathave been have established.

The number of interested people required to start a Moose Service Center is 25, but the more the merrier. The same amount of ladies is required to start a chapter. You may be asking, "what are the requirements to be-come a member of a Moose Service Center or Chapter. A prospective member must be a non-felon who is atleast 21 years of age and believes in a God, and be willing to enlighten his life through service to his communi-ty and others who may be less fortunate.

Our two new Moose Service centers are in Sparks Nevada and they can contact Shawn McCann, and CarsonCity Nevada and contact is Woody Jones.

If you and your friends, as well as members of your community wish to bring the finest Family Fraternityto your area, please contact:

I want to extend Congratulations to our two new Moose Service centers Carson City # 382, and Sparks/Reno#383, The New Lodge Development Chairman Past President Henry Weaver would like to extend an invtitationto any retired Moose members in those cities or the surrounding areas to join with these new lodge service cen-ters and see that they get off to a great start of serving this Association and there Communities, Through serviceto our Children and Seniors. Again Congratulations to two of our new cities who have chose to serve as a unitof the Loyal Order of Moose. Anyone interested in joining or transfering can contact Woody Jones at 775-980-7050 for Carson City, or Sean Mccann at 775-835-1202 for Sparks/Reno. Congratulations.

Youth Awareness

The 2013-14 year for Youth Awareness has been very successful. We had a total of 6 students go back East andcompete for the Scholarships supplied by our Moose Legions. (See Marcell’s report on the scholarship winners) Therewere approximately 60 students in attendance, and although our students did not win back East, they are still our win-ners, and we are very proud of them.

The students shown below represent the 3 students for California North who went to Gettysburg Pennsylvania at the

end of April and returned on May 5. They have already informed me they all plan on participating again this year.

At the current time, all three students have talked at various lodges including Sunnyvale Moose lodge with visiting

Supreme Governor Joseph Koons and most recently Auburn Moose Lodge. At the Auburn Moose Lodge we aactually

have a YouTube video of their experiences; for those interested in watching it please give me a call and I will email you

the link..

Overall, we had 27 students participate in the Youth Awareness Program, with only 7 students completing their 3

Kids Talks. These seven students reached out to 473 young 4-9 year olds and their reports were fantastic.

The following lodges hosted a Youth Awareness Congress and are as follows: Sunnyvale 2049, Richmond 550, Or-

land 1901, Rancho Cordova 2357, and Auburn 2264. Their participation is truly appreciated and we thank them.

One of our goals for 2014-15 is to increase communication of our program to the Community and provide more in-

centives for our participating California Nevada students. Possibly local scholarships and we will be working with Fund

Raising Chairman Bob Bakman on this goal.

Please remember, the Youth Awareness is program is the Greatest Community Service Program around, because

there is no, or very little cost, to the schools or organizations. All travel expenses and scholarships are covered by the

Loyal Order of Moose and our Moose Legions. It is a WIN- WIN program for all. (Please see page 14 for more infor-

mation about our winnder.)

Fraternally and Thank You “It’s About the Kids”Fred Reichelt Youth Awareness Coord & Chairman CA North,Lynn McDonald WOTM Coordinator, CA North.

Congratulations these five students for winning their scholarships at the International Youth

Awareness Congress in Gettysburg Pennsylvania.

1. $12,000, Brandon Hudson, from New York

2. $8,000, Kameron Hornsby, from West Virginia

3. $5,000, Emily Sanner, Pennsylvania

4. $3,000, Kassidy Colton, Pennsylvania

5. $2,000, Melinda Sovak, Pennsylvania

Congratulations to Dania Alosta from Garden Grove and Natalie Castro from Stockdale Moose Lodge for winningfrom California South and making it to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Last Year in the Cal South we had 27 students attend the local Youth Awareness Congress. We had 7 students turn inkid's talks, and they were able to reach out to a total of 822 kids, if we could have had half the kids do the mandatory 3kids talks that would have been 14 students who knows how many kids they may have reached. Right now it is tougherthan ever for are kids and grand kids to grow up, they are constantly facing problems like. (Drugs, smoking, drinking,)and if that wasn't enough, now they must put up with Bullying, and with modern technology like internet crimes, thatadults are out there trying to get at young kids, and way to often they are succeeding. So please find those High Schoolkids talk to them and try to get them involved in the Youth Awareness program.

Fraternally,

Marcell Podany

I hope this letter finds everyone doing well and for those of you who attended convention inReno I hope you had an amazing time and went home with a little extra money. I hope youlearned at least one new thing and feel re-energized as you return to your chapters. KarolSmith was a wonderful Official Visitor and it was such a please to get to spend time with her.I also want to thank and congratulate Delores Inabnett on her year as Deputy Grand Regent.

She did a lovely job. I know her and the other Past Deputy’s will be a great help on my journey this year.

For those of you that don’t know me, I grew up in the Moose. Both my parents were very active in theMoose and I am well aware that I have some very big shoes to fill. My mom was Queen of Sponsors mul-tiple times sponsoring over 280 members and holds all her degrees. My father sponsored over 600 mem-bers and is a Past State President, Past Deputy Supreme Governor and held the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. To say I’m a little nervous that I’m going to live up to what they have accomplished may bare some truth. However, I will do my best to do a good job and make them, you and everyone proud. A little bit of funtrivia for those who didn’t hear me mention this at convention. On September 7, 1996 my father was in-stalled as State President of the California/Nevada Moose Association. On September 7, 2014 I was in-stalled as Deputy Grand Regent of the California/Nevada Moose Association exactly 18 years later. What

even makes it more special is September 7th is my oldest sons birthday, he was one when his grandpa be-came State President and is now 19 and is an amazing father of my granddaughter Bailey.

Back to Basics…what a basic but amazing idea! In a world where everything is so complicated we needto just take a step back and get back to the fundamentals. We need to just take it ONE STEP AT A TIME.When we see a person walk into the lodge, whether they are a new member, old member or a guest of amember it doesn’t matter who they are, man or woman, SMILE AT THEM! Make it your job to makepeople feel welcome and reinforce that they made a good decision to join our organization or be the decid-ing factor on why they decide to join the Moose. If people feel welcome they will let their guard down, they will open and up will want to come back or perhaps volunteer their time. The Moose is such an amaz-ing organization we need to make sure everyone realizes it. We no longer want to be the best kept secret,we want to be seen and heard in the community as a valuable resource. We offer such a great service toour children, seniors and community why would we not want to talk about it. We want to keep the Moosegoing so we can continue to serve for years to come. Lastly, I just ask that you make sure that the peopleyou speak to about the Moose know about Mooseheart and Moosehaven, I know it may seem just easier tosell what you have going on in your lodge or chapter but our child city and Moosehaven are key. Oncethey understand what we do they will never leave.

Until next time, go BACK TO THE BASICS and take it ONE STEP AT A TIME and we can do amaz-ing things.Fraternally,Dina Gurrieri-LadaDeputy Grand Regent 2014-2015California/Nevada

Women of the Moose MembershipBy Carol Veach, CA/NV WOTM Membership Coordinator

PINK CAMO HATS

The Membership Motivators wore pink camo military-style hats in Reno in September. They’re pink insupport of breast cancer awareness and the Women of the Moose are all about helping that cause. And

if it fits our theme “Back to Basics”, so much the better. Over 25 Motivators proudly wore the hats on Saturday morning– they are such super troopers! They also worked hard to help the co–workers earn a dog tag to wear by telling us whatthey had done to increase membership this year. There were pink camo dog tags all over the room with words likeFAITH, HOPE, COURAGE and STRENGTH.

MILITARY FUN

My daughter suggested I should use theme things like, “When you serve as Senior Regent it’s like being in Boot Camp –they throw way too much information at you.” “Those battle drills with the Chairmen are kinda fun but the obstaclecourses from the Loyal Order make you ask for marching orders.” “We all want to sharpen our marksmanship skills sowe hit our quota targets during field exercises.” There was actually a chuckle here and there when I said all that!

MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGNS

Co-workers, every year since 2003, the Membership Motivators have had some kind of campaign to help you personallyand every chapter have a successful year. At first we focused on Retention and for several years we offered incentiveslike cameras and frames or watches and clocks or music systems and ipods. Then we began to offer healthy money priz-es. Some years the results were better than others but I am sure you spread the word by talking about it at your meetings.I am sure you put the poster up in your ladies rooms and I am sure you begged for a tiny bit of room in the newsletter fora poster and that has certainly helped your chapters. In fact, you did such a great job during the Go from Zero to Heromembership campaign, you helped our two great states reach second place in the nation this past year. So let’s do itagain!

THE DRILL

This year we are working on DO A GOOD THING – SPONSOR FRIENDS with the same healthy money prizes. Andyou know the drill. Posters up in the ladies room, posters printed in the newsletter, talk about being a winner at yourmeetings. It really works and I believe every chapter can make it happen. Please help your chapter increase membership.

Hi Everyone. This report is a summary of our past three projects and the introduction of our latestproject. We will start with our Scholarship Fund for children at Moose heart from Cal/Nev. On 4-302013 the balance was $305,498.06. We received contributions of $1860.70, interest of $17,883.71andwe paid out $9,227.55 in scholarship. Our balance on 4-30-2014 was $315,945.46; and increase of$10.447.40. Based on this our Scholarship Fund is in good shape with no major fundraising necessary atthis time.

Our Roof Project for $275,000.00 was completed just before the start of last year’s Annual Conven-tion.

Our Family and Consumer Science Classroom Project, now titled Family Consumer Science is in use and our dona-tions have exceeded the $50,000.00 minimum needed for naming rights. For all practical purposes this project wascompleted today 9-5-2014, but we will continue accepting donations through October 1, 2014 to allow those who areclose to a donation Award Level to complete that level.

We have now accepted a Phase II project that has one year duration and a $25,000.00 minimum for naming rights. The Project consists of renovating the Physical Education Office and upgrading the gymnasium sound system that usedfor daily and other scheduled activities such as pre-K and K-5th grade students for daily physical education classes. After each lunch period the gym is open for a 20 minute period to allow students a period of time to release excess ener-gy by playing various games i.e. volleyball, shooting hoops, etc. The Navy Junior ROTC program also holds physicaltraining, military formation and other activities in the building. Quarterly, all Elementary students assemble and thosewho have shown exemplary behavior are individually recognized and receive awards. Additionally there are outsidevisiting group assemblies, pep rallies, athletic recognition and K-5 dances.

The current sound system consist of two large speakers, an Amplifier, corded microphone’s, and numerous connect-ing cords that must be removed from locked storage areas, set up and connected together; then disassembled and putaway after each use. The current system also lacks the ability to play music.

The proposed sound system includes two large state of the art wall mounted speakers with a wireless microphonesystem and has the ability to play CD’s or use a digital player like a smart phone to play music. It is widely believed inthe Educational area that the use of music in certain programs enhances both participation and learning. The system isexpandable and the future plan is to add additional ceiling during the upcoming gym renovation.

The minimum donation expectation from CNMA FU’s is $100.00 each and those Units or Individuals attaining thislevel will receive a “BOOSTERS CLUB AWARD” and a Gold Star for each additional $100.00 donated. All otherFU’s and Individuals within the Nev/Cal borders are invited to join in this endeavor and are eligible to receive Awards.

Donation Checks should be made out to Moose Charities with “CNMA PE OFFICE & WSS” written in the Memoarea and mailed to Moose Charities, 115S International Dr.; Mooseheart, IL 60539-1100. Failure to place the properinformation in the check memo area can lead to the donation being placed in an incorrect fund with neither you nor theAssociation receiving credit. Also please do not send checks to the Association Secretary, doing so will increase thechances of error.

If anyone has questions or desires additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me by email [email protected] or phone 661 822-7684 or any of the other Committeemen for donation information. You will beable to find Committee Member contact information, updated information and a donation information spreadsheet, asthey are available, on the CNMA Website at www.cn-nvmoose.org.

We would take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to all, who have donated to and supported our past fundraising endeavors and to encourage everyone to jump on board and help bring this one to a successful conclusion.

Remember the Theme is “BACK TO BASICS” and there is nothing more BASIC to our FRATERNITY then givingto “OUR KIDS AT MOOSEHEART”! DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!! DO NOT HESITATE!!! DONATE!!!!

From A to Z your PE OFFICE & WSS PROJECT Committee, Bob Aldrich, Bob Bakman Chairman, Chuck Barber,Charley Bright, Andy Higgins, Bob Inderbieten, Gary McGrath, Russ Nelson, Wayne Parker, Bill Thompson and JoeZenkus.

Cheryl Volden - - - Training Coordinator

“It is a mistake for anyone to think he has lived too long in his old, unsatisfactory ways tomake the great change. If you switch on the light in a dark room, it makes no differencehow long it was dark because the light will still shine. Be teachable. That is the whole se-cret.” What a wonderful quote from Vernon Howard to remind us that we are never tooold to learn something new. Aren’t we lucky that we have been provided with so manywonderful opportunities for training in California and Nevada? Delores Inabnett-Past Deputy Grand Regent

Our recent conference in Reno was exhilarating. We had 363 registered, 34 of them wereJunior Graduate Regents receiving their green cap necklaces. Charlene Mead did an outstand-ing job directing a beautiful ceremony, one the Matriculants will remember for a long time.We had several men in attendance for the Convocation, many telling us how impressed theywere with our program. We appreciate the interest and support from the LOOM and hope tohave a large turn out for the September 2015 Convocation ceremony.

Karol Smith, Past Grand Regent, our official visitor, was outstanding. Her presentation wasexciting and fun. She explained the changes for the coming year and gave us lots of new infor-

mation to share with our chapters. Karol was so wonderful, making herself available to chat with the co-work-ers and answer their questions. Hearing how much the co-workers were enjoying the meetings really touchedour hearts.

Friday and Saturday 120 gifts were awarded at the drawings. West Sacramento Chapter awarded Yuba Cityall four special gifts for the most in attendance at every meeting. The hostess chapter was the best support teamI could have asked for along with the Fairfield Chapter lending help and support. Their team work was phe-nomenal.

John Capes gave an informative presentation explaining Moosehaven. He detailed the application process, life at Moosehaven and answered many questions. John is an excellent speaker and he left us with full knowl-edge of what to expect for those who decide to become a resident.

We did Go The Distance. Now Back To Basics. All Chapters and Lodges continue to strive for the PLUSONE.

Thank you for your continued support.

Delores Inabnett, Past Deputy Grand Regent

(The comments below are only a part of their complete reports on their time and expe-rience back East.)

Yup, we're back! It was an amazing trip that was both rewarding and informative for nextyear! I'm glad I got the wonderful experience to participate in this conference, and extreme-ly grateful that I got to go. People across the country came to the conference, and I metsome amazing people from Oregon to Massachusetts. ….. Yujin Chong, Sunnyvale

The trip was absolutely amazing. Thank so much for helping organize it. I had somuch fun and, on top of that, I learned a lot. I have quite a few ideas of how I mightgreatly improve my Kids Talk next year and reach out to many more students. Out of theall the activities, visiting the Gettysburg memorial was my favorite. I have never been soclose to so much history before. Brandon Stubbs, Grass Valley

My trip back East was a blast, never have I had so much fun in four days. After ar-riving there was a dinner party around the pool area of the Eisenhower Hotel & Confer-ence Center. I got to talk to a dozen other kids and played some card games. OnFriday we all toured the Capitol; so much marble and redwood! Then we had a hugeBBQ at a western restaurant called Mc Sherrystown MOOSE Park, but this was no ordi-nary restaurant. It was one lone restaurant with a huge shade structure, big open area, asmall play ground with swings, teeter totters, and other cool stuff, and a pond. Nathan-iel Crevoiserat, Grass valley

Well there is a new beginning for me as Treasurer of the California/Nevada Moose Association. I wishto thank all those who voted for me, for I will not let you down. I wish to remind all Social Quarters Managers and Trustees to do your job well and on time. The wel-fare of your lodge depends on how accurate you are. For the Treasurer, your accountability to your lodge mem-bers what keeps a lodge accurate and alive and well.
