Personally, I would like to give the chamber and anyone involved with the move to our new location, a round of applause, “WOW” our new sign, how professional we look! For many years the chamber has been a driving force behind raising awareness, provid- ing information and bringing recognition to our community and the surrounding areas. This happens through events, net- workings, educational semi- nars, ribbon-cuttings for new businesses, local happenings, and honoring our community local heroes. A few unknowns and miscon- ceptions about us are: The chamber is not a govern- mental organization. We run as a separate entity, we pay taxes, have payroll, keep a balanced budget and support the economic growth in our community - Yes we run a business just like you! The chamber raises money for scholarships for our local gradu- ates from Fenton, Lake Fenton and Linden schools, and we partner with our local and surrounding governmental agencies. Recently I met with our Membership Director, Lee Mitchell, and he shared that “this year we garnered an 84% retention rate. I believe this speaks volumes about the value of our chamber and how much local businesses understand the importance of the gap that is be- ing bridged between them in the community. I’m always happy to meet and clarify to both mem- bers and nonmembers alike of how their business can benefit from a chamber membership, as well as, help others who are unaware of our presence to understand our mission and what we do.” Which brings me to MEM- BERSHIP - the building block of how we are financially support- ed! “That is you.” As members support us, we in turn support our members. Some new members feel once they become members the floodgates open and new business should flow through their doors. “I WISH!!!!” Being a member of ANYTHING is not for “WIMPS.” We have many great tools to use, some free and some at a small cost and there are many Hidden accommoda- tions, so called “FREEBIES,” shhh. The true tool is you, your participation, your charisma and ability to create relationships. Relationships build trust, trust brings referrals, and referrals bring sales. This doesn›t hap- pen overnight! “TIME,” the one thing that doesn›t cost anything UNLESS you’re out of it, needs to be used wisely and there is no better place to use it other than the chamber. As an owner of a business that was established in 1947, and a member for many, many years, I find that time is an extremely hard factor to manage. I person- ally know the chamber is an unbelievable venue for business growth in this community. We all just need to carve out a little more TIME to spend TIME with our members. They are “WORTH” every penny. (relationships do not have a price tag! Side note: “Chipism.” Sometimes we have to shake a lot of hands and spank babies OR is that shake a lot hands and kiss babies? “Hoping to be successful and actually getting out there and doing it are two different things, so let us as your Chamber help you become successful and increase your business.
