CALL FOR

ROBERT MUGABE AFRICAN COUNCIL FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION LEGACYSCHOLARSHIP FOR 2015/2016 ACADEMIC YEAR

1.0 INTRODUCTIONThe open University of Tanzania (OUT) was created by Act of Parliament of 1994 No. 17which was repealed by the University Act of 2005. It is currently operating under theOpen University of Tanzania Charter of 2007. The Open University of Tanzania is the firstuniversity in the whole of the East Africa region to offer educational programmes throughOpen and Distance Learning mode. It admits students of various backgrounds forstudying different courses. OUT is also a member of Africa Council of Distance Education

(ACDE). Starting this year 2015/16 the University is offering an ACDE scholarship namelyROBERT MUGABE AFRICAN COUNCIL FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION LEGACYSCHOLARSHIP to support one student to pursue a Bachelors degree at the OpenUniversity of Tanzania. The scholarship aims to assist best achieving but financially needystudents.

The following are the guidelines for the Robert Mugabe African Council for DistanceEducation Legacy Scholarship: 2015/2016 Academic Year

2.0

FUND ITEMSa) The sponsorship covers annual Tuition fees including examination and student

organization feesas well as books and stationery allowances.b)

Continuous funding shall be performance based.

3.0 ELIGIBILITY FOR ACDE SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE 2015/2016 ACADEMIC YEAREligible students for ACDE Scholarship for 2015/2016 academic year must meet thefollowing conditions:

Must have applied for scholarship by filling an application form (herewith attached).

Must have been admitted at the OUT for a bachelors degree programme.

Must be a person who is not fully funded by any other organizations.

Must have performed well in the previous academic year.

Must haveproven track of leadership skills and commitment to giving back to the community.

Students with disabilities will be given priority.

Female students in Science programmes will have added advantage.

4.0

MODE OF APPLICATION AND SELECTION

Eligible students will applyby filling an application form and submitting it to the officeof Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic.

Applicants must attach saris printout as evidence for academic achievement

A committee of 5 Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic appointees will recommend 2candidates.

Applications of the recommended candidates will be sent to the ACDE Executive Board

for final selection.

The ACDE will inform the Institution who is the successful candidate.

5.0 DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION

Applications for 2015/2016 academic year should be submitted before 15th August 2015Application lodged beyond this date shall not be considered.

6.0 MODE OF DISBURSEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP FUNDSStudent will be given a receipt to be used for registration.Note that no physical cash would be awarded to the successful candidate.

All eligible Students are invited to fill in the application form and return it to the office of theDeputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
