CALL for PAPERS
MLCCisanInternationalLogisticsOrganizationbasedinPrague,CzechRepublic,whichvisionistobuildand/orenhancelogisticscapabilities,reducelogisticsshortfallsandcostsbyprovidingmultinationalsolutions.ThisinitiativehasbeenpositivelyappreciatedbyNATOMembersandpartners.Tillnow,twelveNATOandPfPcountrieshavesignedMLCCMemorandumofUnderstandingandbecamevalidmembers.Weexpect4morenationstojointheMLCCthisyear.
GreatexampleoftheMLCCactivitywasLogisticsInteroperabilityandStandardizationFieldTrainingExerciseCapableLogistician2013(CL13),plannedandorganizedbyMultinationalLogisticsCoordinationCentreandsupportedbySlovakiaasaHostNation.ThisexercisewasgreatdemonstrationofNATONationsdedicationtosupportcommonefforttomaintainanddevelopmultinational logisticscapabilitiestogetherwithpartners.Themainobjectiveof this important logisticseventwas to testanddevelopcollectivesolutions for logistics, toassess interoperabilityof logisticssystems,servicesandequipmentandtoenhancestandardizationofproceduresincurrentandfutureoperationsandtestingSmartDefencelogisticsprojects.CL13wasthelargesteventofitskindinthelasttwodecades,with1750personnelandaround600piecesofequipmentinvolved.Intotal,35AlliesandPartnernationscommittedpersonnelandequipment.
CapableLogisticianWorkshop(CL14)buildsuponthetremendoussuccessofCL13andpresentsanotherMLCC´scontributiontocommoneffortintheareaofLogisticsCapabilitiesDevelopment.CL14willbring together the international logisticcommunity inorder toenhance thepreparednessofthenextexerciseCapableLogistician2015(CL15)byprovidingawidermultinationalforumfordiscussionsfocusedonspecificlogisticfunctionalareas(FAs).TheMilitaryCapabilitiesthatAlliancewillneedforthecomingdecadeandbeyondmustbemodernandinteroperable.OneofthewaysofthinkinghowtogeneratemoderndefencecapabilitiesisNATOSmartDefenceinitiativeintroducedin2011.ItisarenewedcultureofcooperationthatencouragesAlliestocooperateindeveloping,acquiringandmaintainingmilitarycapabilitiestoundertaketheAlliance’sessentialcoretasksagreedinthenewNATOstrategicconcept.Thatmeanspoolingandsharingcapabilities,settingprioritiesandcoordinatingeffortsbetter.CapableLogistician2013wasaclearillustrationofthegoalthattheAlliancesetitselfattheChicagoSummitinMay2012:“NATOForces2020”-modern,tightlyconnectedforcesequipped,trained,exercisedandcommanded,sothattheycanoperatetogetherandwithpartnersinanyenvironment-andthetwoinitiativesarisingfromit:“connectedforces”,whichmeansforcesaremoreeffectivethankstobettertraining,enhancedinteroperabilityandexercisesinvolvingAlliesandPartners;and“smartdefence”,whichfocusesonimprovingthewayNATOdevelopsandacquiresitsdefencecapabilities,achievingeconomiesofscale.
