Bethel No. 86,Job’s Daughters

October is here, and Halloween is near! What a lovely time of the year!

We had our first meeting after summer break on Au-gust 29 and started planning a busy but fun term. We were also very excited to read a petition that night! On Saturday, September 3, we had a bake sale booth at Arts Alive! in Eureka, and we appreciate everyone who stopped by. Over the weekend of September 17, our Bethel went to the Grand Librarian’s Science Day at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, which was underwritten by the Scottish Rite, so it only cost $5 for each Daughter to attend! The Scottish Rite also opened up their Center for us to spend the night Saturday. More details of this exciting trip to come next issue! We had a regular meeting on September 19. As of this writing, it hasn’t happened yet so I can’t tell you for sure, but I have been told there should be more than one petition read at that meeting! Again, more details to come in the next Trestleboard! Saturday, October 1, we will have a bake sale booth at Arts Alive! in Eureka. We hope you will drop by and sample our wares! Monday, October 3, is INITIATION! It would be great if you could come help us welcome our new members! October 7-9 is Leadership Camp in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is ALWAYS a fun and educational event we look forward to attending every year! October 22 we will participate in the Walk to End Alz-heimer’s as a Bethel service project. If you would like to make a donation or sponsor a Daughter (or two or three), we would greatly appreciate it! Please contact Mrs. Sally Hansen, Guardian Director of Epochs and mother of our Honored Queen (476-0245), to donate/sponsor to help find a cure for Alzheimers. October 30 we plan to have our Worship Service at the Methodist Church in Crescent City and invite the Bethel there to attend with us. A pastor who used to be here at

the Eureka Methodist Church is in Crescent City now, and we are hoping to visit with him. We’ll keep you posted on how this turns out. Happy Fall and best wishes – Bethel No. 86 Arcata

Six Rivers Lodge No. 106Greetings Brethren, I would like to start this month’s article by congratulating Bro. Frank Arruda on be-ing selected to receive the Hiram Award by

the members of Six Rivers Lodge #106. Per Bro. Arruda’s request, we will be presenting him with the award during our Stated Meeting on November 1st, 2016. Our Stated Meeting for October will be on Tuesday, Oct. 4th. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm and we will open Stated at 7:30pm. On Tuesday, Oct. 11th and Tuesday Oct. 18th we will have dinner and fellowship followed by a 3rd Degree Practice. Food will be served at 6:00pm and practice begins after. It is important that all the Officers and members participat-ing in the degree be present at these practices because … On Saturday, Oct. 22nd we will be raising Brother Ga-briel Vaughn to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason dur-ing the Michael J. Vertar Memorial Outdoor Degree. The degree will be held at Bro. Steven Jacobs residence at 800 Sawdust Trail in Fieldbrook. We will open lodge at 11am and confer after with lunch being served after the degree. I would like to close out this month’s article with a quote from Brother Albert Pike. It pertains to a lesson we cannot have too often called to our attention.

“What we have done for Ourselves alone,Dies with us;What we have done for others And the world,Remains and is immortal”- Bro. Albert Pike

Brethren, This year is rapidly coming to an end. So a word to the wise: If you are moving up the line

get the proficiencies done early. The powers that be would like them done before elections. At the meeting this September it was announced that Brother Gibson would be our Mason of the Year. A well deserved honor for his willingness to fill in as needed and of all the other work and support he gives to the Lodge. The dinner to honor all 5 Masons of the Year will be Oct.29th in Fortuna. Secretary’s ScribblesAs secretary of the Trestleboard Olympics I must apologize that last month I submitted the wrong file to the printer and conse-quently the wrong list of donors appeared in the September issue of the Trestleboard. I will try to be more careful in the future. A letter for donations to the 2017 Trestleboard Olympics will go out in the mail around the first of October and we hope you will renew or make a new donation to help the organization of your choice offset the monthly cost of this important publication. Thank you in advance!Alan J Smyth Trestleboard Secretary

Eureka Court No. 109Order of the Amaranth

First a couple of reminders on upcoming events: 28 September, 2016—Official Visit of GRM Christina and GRP Russell Dinner 6:00 p.m.; Meeting 7:30 p.m., Reception follows 29 September, 2016—Bar-B-Que at Donna Kennard’s home Social Hour 1:00 p.m., Dinner 5:00 p.m. 01 October, 2016—Daughters of the Nile Luncheon Amaranth members serving November and December: Remember our meeting dates change during the holiday months. Since I am writing this on Sep 15, and we have not yet had our Official Visit, I am projecting that everything was great and everyone had a superb time. And of course the BBQ was out of this world (as usual). I hope that your memories of the days agree with me. Also, we hope that the Daughters of the Nile luncheon went well. As this is a fund raiser for Amaranth, we hope that the Nile Ladies all feel we did a good job for them. Another recent fund raiser we held was the Yard Sale at Liz Lorig’s home. I hear that it was quite successful and a good time was held by all who attended. And we thank all that attended and helped. The rumor is that this month is October and the meeting theme is “Halloween Spooktacular”. We will all find out on the 26th of October what our leader has in mind for us. As we journey into fall the colors are brightening up, the days are getting shorter and the evening cooler. And it also means that in a short while the highway construction will be winding down for the winter. At least in the case of 299 from Arcata to Redding. I have heard rumors that this road may be opening before Christmas, under time and under budget. We can all celebrate that. Then we just have to get through the road construction going to the south. But we do all realize it is job security for many road workers. And Christmas is just around the corner. Are you getting your Christmas lists and New Year’s Resolution list ready? Hope so. And here is wishing you another terrific month.

Brethren, Don’t forget our stated meeting on October

20, 2016. We need side-liners, it’s kind of lonesome with only the officers attending. Please remember this date: October 29, 2016. We will be honoring the Mason of the Year, Brother Richard McKenna this night. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM with the presentation to follow. Dinner will be Beef Burgundy with all of the fixings. Cost of the dinner will be $15 per person. Please RSVP to Jim Widdoes at 707-599-8841 on orbefore October 26, 2016. Members, get out and shake the bushes, twist some arms, we need candidates for the fall classes.

It is back to school and a big Thank You goes out to the members that brought school supplies to our last meeting. I have been in

contact with a teacher from Ferndale Elementary School and she states the supplies as really needed. Many students were not able to bring in their own supplies so this is a big help for them. If you would still like to donate, just let me know and I will make sure they get them. Happy Birthday to those born in October. Fall is such a nice time of year with all the changing colors and falling leaves. We hope those who are not feeling well are able to enjoy this time of year too and just know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Members, we love hearing from you. Please send us a note and let us know how you are doing. October is Grand Chapter time, too, and several of our members are attending this year. There are a lot of proposed amendments to our Constitution and Instruction Bookto be discussed with a number of them regarding our Grand Chapter funds and fees. We will be discussing some of them at our meeting on October 12th. Remember refreshments are at 7:00 p.m. prior to the 7:30 meeting. Also in October will be our Affiliation Ceremony for

Having a great fall season is the theme for this month’s Trestleboard. I especially like this time of year to reflect on the summers doings

and looking forward to the changes in the weather and the Lodge. You Officers are preparing to take the next step in the progression of the line heading toward the east. As part of learning the new positions and qualifying to be in their respec-tive chairs they will have to meet with the District Inspector to prove proficient. It is GO time for those of you that need to be-come proficient in their respective offices. They are urged to meet the inspector prior to the election of officers in Novem-ber. The Lodge elevator has been upgraded to like new func-tionality, the Hall Association has made many exhausting ef-forts to manage the contractors and elevator vendor to make this a reality. All that remains is the inspection and licensing of the elevator system by state officials to license the lift for full time operation. October Stated meeting is on the 6th. This month starting at 7:00 pm, there will be a second Degree for Brother Ignacio on the 13th. And another second degree for Brother Conlin on the 20th. Finally finishing up this months degree work pass-ing apprentice Masons further toward the light, on the 27th Brother Rivera passes into the Fellowcraft degree as well. Please review the Scottish Rite section of the Trestle board for information on the Mason Of The Year being presented to a worthy Brother of our lodge. I will be attending Grand Lodge this year and cast the vote for the legislation that this Lodge deems relevant and needs your support. Please review the 2017 legislation and voice your opinion and desires to the ped-estal officers so that your Lodge has a vote on the issues that effect Masons of California. Thank you again for a spectacular year thus far and please be sure to visit the humboldtlodge79.org web site for updates, our new Gallery and calendar of events.

Sisters and Brothers; As the 2015-2016 Year of Dolphins and Sea Turtles prepares for entering dry land and

turning their respective Chapters over to the 2016-2017 Tigers and Bald Eagles we would like to thank the members of Arcata Chapter for an amazing year. You members make our chapter great with your support of each other and the sister chapters throughout the county. John and I were grateful for the opportunity to serve and your Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron. On October 6, we will be honoring our Brothers of the Chapter with a dinner beginning at 6:30. Please join us in thanking them for their continued support of our chapter.John and I would also like to thank each of you who assisted Arcata Chapter during their September meeting, a family emergency kept us from attending. The word went out and as true of the Masonic members of Humboldt County and members of Arcata Chapter all of you stepped up and helped Sister Heidi and Brother Norm hold our stated meeting and get business done. We appreciate it your time and efforts, so on behalf of John, myself, and the entire Gonsalves Family, thank you for your love and support. During our November 3rd, meeting Arcata will be having an awards ceremony to present 25-year pins, the Eastern Star Service Award and the Rob Morris Service Award.
