Why go digital?
Why buy a digital camera?
• No film required:
Unlike traditional 35mm cameras, you don’t have a film to process witha digital camera. Digital technology is used to store the images in thecamera’s memory, or on a memory card. You can use the LCD screen to viewthe pictures in the memory and discard any that you do not want to keep.
• No computer required - print photos directly from thecamera or memory card:
A common misconception is that you need to have a computer to allowyou to print out your photos. There are several ways to print your photos, including the Tesco Photo Lab - for more information on your printingoptions see page 5 of this leaflet, or for information on the Tesco DigitalPhoto Kiosk, see the back page.
• Send your photos by e-mail, or display them on a website
for friends and family all over the world to see:
If you have e-mail, it is very easy to transfer your pictures onto your computer
and attach them to your e-mails. Similarly, if you have a website you can postthem there for others to see when they access your site. This is a really greatway to share your memories with friends and family no matter where they arein the world! They can even print out their own copies too.
It’s time to go digital!
Nowadays there are so many new and exciting ways of capturing and sharingmemories of important events. Tesco have an extended range of digital camerasand additional items which make taking and sharing photos easy, like memorycards and printers. The Tesco Digital Photo Kiosk makes it easy to print photosdirect from a memory card.
The technical bit...
The film in a traditional 35mm camera has been replaced with an electronicsensor known as a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) in a digital camera.
The sensor is made up of millions of small elements known as pixels which eachcapture the light to form an image of many different colours or tones. The imageis then stored on the memory card.

How can I make the most of my digital camera?
• You will need batteries:
Many of the cameras in the Tesco range take standard AA batteries. Some cameras also take rechargeable NiMH batteries. Digital cameras dorequire large amounts of power, especially if you intend to use the LCD screenfrequently to review your pictures. Rechargeable batteries are often the bestand most cost-effective way to power your digital camera.
• You will need a memory card:Most of the cameras we sell come with memory capacity - either internalmemory or a memory card supplied in the box. However, most people willwant to take quite a few pictures, before having to print or download themto make space for more in the memory. Different digital cameras takedifferent types of memory card. Please check at the fixture to ensure you buythe correct type for your camera. All memory cards also come in differentsizes, e.g. 64 MB and 128 MB. The Memory Cards page of this leaflet (page 6)will tell you how many pictures you can store on each size of memory card.
• Printing your photos:
See page 5 of this leaflet for all your printing options.
We suggest that you take advantage of the Tesco Digital Photo Kiosk,an in-store self-service unit which allows you to print photos from yourmemory card and collect them one hour later. Alternatively, you can buya printer for use at home, either with a computer or without (you will needa Pictbridge camera and printer if you do not intend to use a computer).
Tesco stock a selection of photo printers, and also a wide range of printinginks and high quality photo paper to ensure that you get the very best resultsfrom printing your photos at home.
• You may also need some accessories :
Tesco sell a range of digital camera accessories to help you make the most of your new camera. There are a variety of cases to keep your camera safe, andstore all your batteries and memory cards. We also have a selection of beautiful albums to display your photos or blank CD’s and DVD’s to store

Not sure how much storage you will need?
This table gives you an idea of how many pictures you can fit on a memory card:
CAPACITY CAMERA TYPE (MEGAPIXELS)
2 MP 3 MP 4 MP 5 MP
16 MB 17 shots 13 shots 8 shots 6 shots
32 MB 35 shots 26 shots 16 shots 10 shots64 MB 71 shots 53 shots 32 shots 20 shots

can store on each card. Quantities are for full-resolution JPEG images of averageexposure, with no file compression. Saving at lower resolutions and using highercompression settings will increase the image capacity.

storage for your needs.• Make sure you buy the correct type for your camera - some cameras take
more than one type.
