CANADA DAY 2011
Celebrate Canada Day on the North Shore“This place that I come from has been nurturing, it has been kind, and the people here have a genuine interest in all aspects of life and everything that it has to offer, and that shows in our society and it shows in our hearts.”
Keifer Sutherland’s words — when he was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2005 — beautifully describe our Canadian spirit and way of life.
This year, whether we were fundraising for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan; cheering on our beloved Canucks or helping with the downtown cleanup after the post-game party went bad, North Shore residents showed we have an abundance ofthat life-loving spirit.
Now it’s time to celebrate being Canadian and all the qualities it represents: tolerance, respect, curiosity, adventure, tenacity, fun and plenty of pride.
On Friday we mark 144 years since the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united two British colonies and a province of the British Empire into a single country called Canada.
Pick your party or go to them all. The North Shore Canada Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. at 13th Street and Grand Boulevard in North Vancouver, while the festivities at Waterfront Park, which run from noon to 4 p.m., include free activities, a craft fair, the BC Bike Race kids race, and a main stage showcasing local youth talent. In West Vancouver, John Lawson Park will be the site of a Red and White Picnic from 2:30 to 10:30 p.m. that will see live music and fi reworks carry the celebration into the night.
You can fi nd all the details in the following pages;but no matter how you choose to mark the occasion,it feels good to be Canadian.
Happy Canada Day!

Update from Harvest Project
The mail-strike/lockout has affected us hugely. More than 85% of cash donations arrive by mail. We ask you to drop in or donate online to allow us to continue “extending a hand up, not a hand out” to those in need on the North Shore.

• CANNED FISH & MEATS • CANNED TOMATO ITEMS• RICE AND DRY PASTA• CEREAL • JUICE• PEANUT BUTTER & JAM
Your cash and food donations at this time will ensure that visitors to Harvest Project have the help they need as we work with them to address serious life-challenges.
OUR FRONT-DOOR IS OPEN:Tues. through Fri. 10am-4pm and Sat. 10am-2pm.
