ABOUT US…..

•Franchise City is an independently owned franchise brokerage firm working with over 600 of the

Nations top franchise brands. Our parent company, FRAN5 has been operating since 2006.

•Our corporate mandate is to connect top performing franchise brands with well suited prospective

franchise owners. For purposes of our Canadian PNP franchise program we have partnered with

franchises that are eligible and willing to work with non-residents for purposes of obtaining

permanent residency.

•Many of the franchise companies with which we work are award winning, high profile brands with

long histories of success. By matching quality franchises with well suited candidates both franchise

brand and franchisees benefit.

•OUR FRANCHISE MATCHING SERVICE IS FREE. There are never any fees for you, our

candidate as we are compensated by way of a referral fee from the franchise companies.

About Our PNP Franchise Matching Program:

Our Franchise program matches prospective applicants with

high profile, well known franchise brands that will work with

non-residents. While the ownership of a franchise is not a prerequisite

for eligibility nor does it guarantee entry into the program, investors do

increase their chances of having their application looked upon favorably.

It is readily accepted that well known, established franchise brands provide a higher likelihood of

success, and of employing Canadian workers over an unproven business. Immigration officials will

also be familiar with the franchise brand and business model, unlike a start up business. Additionally

by partnering with a franchise Investors are able to provide officials with required documentation such

as full and complete business plans, operational manuals and proven histories of success.

The financial amount required to qualify varies from Province to Province. We’ll explore the

requirements in the following pages.

Page 4: Canada PNP Program - franchise.city · About Our PNP Franchise Matching Program: Our Franchise program matches prospective applicants with high profile, well known franchise brands

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

• What are the Total Costs Relating to Entrepreneur Stream? Your 3 principal costs will generally

be: The purchase of the Franchise, your legal and and application fees, and costs associated to your

move to Canada. It is important you have sufficient capital allocated to the venture or your application

will be denied.

Can You Recommend a Lawyer? Yes. We work with several experienced immigration experts

How Much do I Need to Invest to Qualify? Each province has individual requirements. These are

listed in the following pages.

Can my Spouse/Children Accompany Me? Yes. Spouses and children are generally subject to the

same visa validity, period of admission, and limitation of stay as the principal applicant.

• Does the PNP Lead to Permanent Residence? Yes it can. There are several steps involved

however permanent residency is ultimately possible, and is often the end goal of the applicant.

• Where can I Obtain Additional Information on the PNP Program Itself?

https://canadianvisa.org/canada-immigration/business/investor-visa

Page 5: Canada PNP Program - franchise.city · About Our PNP Franchise Matching Program: Our Franchise program matches prospective applicants with high profile, well known franchise brands

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:cont.

• How Much are Legal Costs? Your total costs will depend on the type of services required, number of

family members and several other factors unique to your situation. As there are several steps involved in

obtaining permanent residency in Canada applicants should be comfortable allocating up to $20,000 for

the entire process. Contact your attorney for pricing based on your specific situation.

• Do All Franchises Qualify for the Program? No. Certain franchises have business models that are not

well suited to the requirements while others by choice only work with existing Canadian residents.

Franchise City has created a portfolio of dozens of franchises that will work with immigration type

candidates, and have previously been successful with visa applicants.

• Is Perfect English a Requirement? Some franchises do require fluent English skills as a prerequisite to

ownership. Others are more lenient. Some provinces also have minimum English proficiency

requirements. Your Franchise City consultant will help determine which franchises are a good match for

your business goals and English skills.

• Is a Food Franchise a Good Idea? If your budget allows, possibly. However investors with smaller

budgets will find it very difficult or impossible to start a business with a “brick and mortar” retail business

model. For lower budgets we generally recommend service based franchises that use less expensive

office space rather than a retail location.

• Should I Buy a New or Resale Franchise? Again, depending on budget a resale franchise can be an

option. A common problem we often see however is investors with limited budgets considering resale

franchises. Typically financially distressed franchises are all that is available in this price range.

Franchising is a type of license that the franchisee acquires that provides access to the franchisors proprietary knowledge, processes and trademarks.

Franchising is a business strategy for getting and keeping customers. It is a marketing system for creating an image in the minds of current and future customers showing how the company’s products and services can help them. It is a method for distributing products and services that satisfy customer needs.

Franchising is a network of interdependent business relationships that allows a number of people to share:

• A brand identification

• A successful method of doing business

• A proven marketing and distribution system

In short, franchising is a strategic alliance between groups of people who have specific relationships and responsibilities with a common goal to dominate markets, i.e., to get and keep more customers than their competitors.

WHAT IS FRANCHISING?

Page 7: Canada PNP Program - franchise.city · About Our PNP Franchise Matching Program: Our Franchise program matches prospective applicants with high profile, well known franchise brands

General Advantages

• Owning a franchise allows you to go into business for yourself - but

not by yourself.

• A franchise provides an established product or service and an

established brand .

• A franchise provides a proven successful business model.

• A franchise can offer the consumer an assurance of a certain level of

quality and consistency.

• A franchise can offer owners valuable start-up support including site

selection, construction and design, owner and staff training, logo and

marketing materials and a proven grand-opening program.

• A franchise can offer ongoing support including general business

mentoring, national and regional advertising, bulk buying power and

market research and development.

Immigration Specific Advantages

• A Nationally recognized franchise brand is likely to be perceived

favorably by immigration officials over an unknown business plan.

• By investing in a franchise you have the ability to immediately

provide immigration officials with much of the required paperwork

such as business plans, forecasts and operational manuals. Creating

this on your own could cost thousands.

• An established franchise will have a higher overall chance of

success than a startup business.

FRANCHISING ADVANTAGES

Page 8: Canada PNP Program - franchise.city · About Our PNP Franchise Matching Program: Our Franchise program matches prospective applicants with high profile, well known franchise brands

REASONS TO BUY A FRANCHISE

Turnkey Business

There are many entrepreneurs that have exactly what it takes to run a successful business however don’t have what it takes to get their business up and running. Whether it be financing, negotiating lease terms or even just the confidence it takes to quit their job and start their own business, franchising can make the transition easier.

Buying a franchise can eliminate much of the initial hard work:

• Branding• Supplier Sourcing• Sales & Marketing• Operational Processes• Business Strategy

System in Place

• When you buy a franchise you buy a system. All franchises have an already-established system in place that franchisees follow.

• These systems are designed to improve the overall productivity and increase sales of each franchise.

• Having a proven system already in place eliminates the guesswork and errors a start up business owner would face.

Page 9: Canada PNP Program - franchise.city · About Our PNP Franchise Matching Program: Our Franchise program matches prospective applicants with high profile, well known franchise brands

Higher Likelihood of Success

• Buying a franchise is very different from starting a mom-and-pop business.

• Since there is an already established system in place, and multiple operational locations there is a higher likelihood of success.

• If you follow the system the franchisor has put in place you will be working towards running a successful business.

Corporate Image and Brand Awareness

• By buying into a Nationally recognized franchise system your corporate image and brand awareness is already in place.

• Customers are usually more comfortable purchasing items they are familiar with and working with companies they already know and trust.

Easier to Obtain Financing (Not applicable with Non-residents)

• Lenders are generally more comfortable financing the purchase of a franchise because they already have a proven track record.

• Bankers usually look at successful franchise chains as having a lower risk of repayment default and are more likely to loan money based on that premise.

• Some franchise systems even provide in-house financing and/or leasing

options.

Page 10: Canada PNP Program - franchise.city · About Our PNP Franchise Matching Program: Our Franchise program matches prospective applicants with high profile, well known franchise brands

Training

• Most franchise companies offer a 1-4 week training program that is usually held at their corporate offices or at an actual franchise location.

• The franchisor will train you to run your franchise using successful strategies their other franchises have used.

• This will ensure that you are running your business efficiently and will help to eliminate any common mistakes a new business owner generally faces.

Ongoing Support

• When you buy a franchise you are provided ongoing support from your Franchisor.

Marketing

• Depending on the industry there will often be a refined client acquisition and marketing program in place.

• Most brands will have a National advertising campaign into which all franchisees contribute. Often they will also provide a local marketing outline for you to follow and specific vendors that will provide effective advertising venues.

Exclusive Territory

When you buy a franchise you are also often buying an exclusive territory in which to do business.

Franchisors will generally only allow a certain amount of franchises to be open within a specific geographical region.

You will be entitled to a certain area and no other franchises (within your franchise system) can be open within that area.

Own Multiple Locations

Being a part of a franchise will often provide opportunities to grow within the system.

Once you have become a successful unit franchise owner the next logical step is to become a multi-unit franchise owner. After you have one successful franchise open with a management team in place you can focus time on opening a second location.

Multi-unit franchise owners manage more than one location and are often able to increase their income by taking on more than one location.

Owning multiple franchise locations can be very lucrative.

Page 12: Canada PNP Program - franchise.city · About Our PNP Franchise Matching Program: Our Franchise program matches prospective applicants with high profile, well known franchise brands

TYPES OF FRANCHISE ARRANGEMENTS

• There are 4 basic types of franchise agreements: Single-unit, multi-unit, area development and master franchising. Several Senior Care Franchises offer multiple options as below. Speak with your broker for details.

• A single-unit franchise is the most common and is simply where a franchisor grants the franchisee rights to open and operate one single franchise unit.

• A multi-unit franchise is where a franchisor grants a franchisee rights to open more than one franchise unit.

• An area development agreement allows a franchisee the rights to open multiple units over an agreed amount of time within a specified geographic location and / or to own rights to their specific territory and earn money on each franchise sold in their territory through sharing of the franchise fee and ongoing royalties.

• A master franchise agreement also referred to as sub-franchising, gives a franchisee the same rights as an area development agreement but also provides rights to sell franchises to other people within the territory. A master franchisee assumes many of the tasks and obligations of the franchisor such as training and support and receives a portion of the franchise fee and royalties. While technically there are significant differences you will find that master franchising and area development are used interchangeably.
