My Brother’s Keeper Inc. Major Accomplishments

From its headquarters in Mississippi, MBK has served a base of over 15,000 constituents across the country through its outreach efforts and by forging alliances with CBOs, faith-based organizations and institutions of higher learning.

Mississippi AIDS Advocacy Coalition (MAAC) – MBK serves as the lead organization of MAAC which is a statewide coalition dedicating to promoting advocacy, collaboration, and leadership to increase access to prevention, care, treatment and service to individuals infected and affected by HIV/AIDS throughout the State of Mississippi

In disseminating lessons learned, MBK was invited by the Black Caucus of Health Workers to present information on the impact that cultural incompetence has on how African Americans seek and receive health care.

My Brother’s Keeper Inc.Major Accomplishments

CBA 2 - In 2006, MBK received funding from the Centers for Disease Control, Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities, to address public health issues affecting racial and ethnic minority populations. As a result of the project, over 1500 individuals, nationwide, have been educated on cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention and early detection. A total of 278 health professionals representing 98 organizations were trained in African American Cultural Competence.

SoPHE Health Advocacy Summit – MBK participated and gained insight on Function 550 and the promotion of health issues to lawmakers. As a result of lessons learned at the summit, MBK developed a skills building training manual entitled Health Advocacy for African Americans: Networking for Policy Change.

The Project will be used to target African American men and women, ages 18-55 nationwide, who live in urban and rural communities and whose socioeconomic, environmental and cultural status serve as constant deterrents in their fight against breast, cervical and prostate cancer.

CECAP will provide culturally and linguistically-appropriate cancer awareness and early detection education. Technical assistance will be offered to community-based organizations who serve African Americans relative to cancer awareness and control.

MethodThe first year of CECAP will be devoted to developing

and implementing program offerings. A logic model has been developed for program implementation and evaluation. The program plan will be constantly re-tooled to determine if it is viable and if the services are appropriately provided.

Upon completion of Project Year 01, CECAP will focus years two through five on implementation of the project objectives in order to transfer knowledge that will improve attitudes and behaviors of African Americans about cancer prevention and early detection

Program Evaluation Plan

The evaluation plan includes multiple techniques and will be participatory and dynamic in nature. It will include both qualitative and quantitative techniques.

It will focus on the process, intermediate/short term, long term and final impact of the capacity development project and capacity building activities directed to community based programs/organizations

Program Evaluation PlanCECAP’s evaluation process will include five steps::1. Specification of the performance goals and indicators

to be measured2. Specification of the sequential set of performances

that, if observed would indicate the goal has be achieved.

3. Identification of which performances are critical to goal attainment

4. Description and specification of the indicator objectives that will inform the evaluation team that the goal has been met.

5. Testing of whether each indicator objective is associated with the others.
