CANTILEVER METAL STORAGE SYSTEM

Specifier Notes: This section covers E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. cantilever metal storage system. Consult E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. for assistance in editing this section for the specific application.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

B. Sole Source Responsibility: Shelving system components [, except wood shelves provided under Section 06 40 00 – Architectural Woodwork,] shall be products from a single manufacturer.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery and Acceptance Requirements: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer.

B. Storage and Handling Requirements:1. Store and handle materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.2. Keep materials in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers and packaging until

installation.3. Store materials in clean, dry area indoors.4. Do not store materials directly on floor.5. Store materials on flat, level surface, raised above floor, with adequate support to prevent

2.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Cantilever Metal Storage System: Design, fabricate, and install such that:1. Shelves are cantilevered without front supports, providing completely open, full width,

useable shelves.2. Shelf lengths are provided to completely fit layout indicated on Drawings without voids,

gaps, or wasted space.3. Shelves may be positioned at any height above base bracket.4. Systems with slots or holes that dictate shelf heights: Not acceptable.5. Storage system shall be expandable using additional modular components.6. Storage system can be dissembled and re-erected in different location or configuration.

Specifier Notes: Typical spacing of uprights and shelf length is 48 inches (1,219 mm). Bracket and load capacity is determined by shelf span and depth. For metal shelves, bracket length is the same as shelf depth. For wood shelves, brackets are 2 inches (51 mm) less than shelf depth. Refer to load tables in E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. product literature and edit the following paragraph to reflect project requirements.

2.3 STORAGE SHELVING SYSTEM

A. Provide complete, cantilever shelving system consisting of modular shelves, uprights, shelf brackets, clamp assemblies, fasteners, and other components and accessories that can be field assembled; E-Z Shelving System as manufactured by E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc.

B. Compliance: System shall comply with Fed Spec AA-S-1048, Kind I, Class 2, Type 7D.

C. Layout: Dimensions, number of tiers, location, spacing, and details shall be as indicated on Drawings and approved shop drawings.

Specifier Notes: E-Z Shelving Systems can be wall mounted, freestanding, floor-to-ceiling mounted, or a combination of mounting methods.

D. Mounting Method: Shelving shall be supported on cantilevered brackets attached to [wall mounted] [freestanding] [floor-to-ceiling] uprights.

Specifier Notes: Nine standard types of shelving are provided for E-Z Shelving System. They are listed below along with the type of uprights and shelf brackets typically used. Other types of shelving and finishes, such as chrome, are available as custom orders. Contact E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. for availability of non-standard components and finishes and assistance in specifying custom products.

EZGS - Galvanized steel shelves and zinc-plated uprights and brackets.

EZGSL - Galvanized steel louvered shelves and zinc-plated uprights and brackets.

EZPS - Phosphate-primed steel shelves, uprights, and brackets with electrostatically applied plastic powder resin colored paint coating. Standard colors are white, tan, black, and gray. Custom colors are available as a special order.

EZPSL - Phosphate-primed steel louvered shelves, uprights, and brackets with electrostatically applied plastic powder resin colored paint coating. Standard colors are white, tan, black, and gray. Custom colors are available as a special order.

EZAS - Sheet aluminum shelves and shelf brackets, extruded aluminum uprights, and zinc-plated steel foot brackets.

EZSS - Stainless steel shelves, uprights, and brackets.

NSWS - Stainless steel NSF-certified wire shelves, uprights, and brackets.

NSWZ - Zinc-plated NSF-certified wire shelves, uprights, and brackets.

NSWE - Zinc-plated NSF-certified wire shelves with powder paint coating and zinc-plated uprights and brackets. As an option, powder paint coated uprights and brackets can be provided. Standard paint colors for wire shelves are green, blue green, and gray. When used for Food Service standard paint color for uprights and brackets is gray. For other applications standard paint colors are white, tan, black, and gray. Custom colors are available as a special order.

2.4 SOLID AND LOUVERED SHELVES

Specifier Notes: Except for wire shelves, standard shelf lengths are 36, 48, and 60 inches (914, 1219, and 1,524 mm). Standard shelf depths range from 6 to 36 inches (152 to 914 mm) in 2-inch (51-mm) increments. Custom sizes are also available by contacting E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. Shelf size can be specified below for each selected shelf type. However, if several different sizes are required, it is preferable to indicate dimensions on Drawings or in a Shelving Schedule included in Part 3 of this specification section.

Select the appropriate shelf types from the following. If more than one type is required, indicate with letter designation. Use same type designations on Drawings.

2.5 COUNTERTOPS

Specifier Notes: Solid surface shelves 24 to 36 inches (610 to 914 mm) deep can be used as countertops or work surfaces when mounted on special countertop-type brackets. As a custom order, countertops greater than 36 inches (914 mm) can be provided. In applications such as laboratories, cantilevered countertops can be used with shelving above and below. Include this article if countertops are required.

2.6 WIRE SHELVES

Specifier Notes: The three types of wire shelving provided by E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. - NSWS, NSWZ, and NSWE - are certified by NSF International for use in foodservice facilities.

Standard wire shelf lengths are 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, and 60 inches (610, 762, 914, 1,067, 1,219, 1,372, and 1,524 mm). Standard wire shelf depths are 12, 14, 18, 21, and 24 inches (305, 356, 457, 533, and 610 mm). Custom sizes are also available by contacting E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. Shelf size can be specified below as part of the wire shelf description. However, if several different sizes are required, it is preferable to indicate dimensions on Drawings or in a Shelving Schedule included in Part 3 of this specification section.

3.2 INSPECTION

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install shelving system in accordance with approved shop drawings and manufacturer's installation instructions.

B. Layout storage system with temporary markings to indicate upright locations.

C. Wall-Mounted Uprights: Accurately space uprights and install plumb with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer for type of substrate.

Specifier Notes: Include the following two paragraphs if floor-to-ceiling or freestanding shelving is required.

D. [Floor-to-Ceiling] [Freestanding] Uprights: Attach foot brackets to uprights with clamp assemblies. Ensure bracket is perpendicular to upright. F. Brackets: Insert shelf brackets in uprights and secure with clamp assemblies. Ensure brackets are accurately aligned so installed shelves will be level.

G. Shelves: Position shelves on brackets, align mounting holes, and anchor with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer.

H. Accessories: Install accessories in locations indicated on approved shop drawings. Install components rigidly, secure, plumb, and level with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer.

3.4 ADJUSTING

A. Remove and replace damaged components.
