B. Sole Source Responsibility: Shelving system components [, except wood shelves provided under Section 06 40 00 – Architectural Woodwork,] shall be products from a single manufacturer.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery and Acceptance Requirements: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer.

B. Storage and Handling Requirements:1. Store and handle materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.2. Keep materials in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers and packaging until

installation.3. Store materials in clean, dry area indoors.4. Do not store materials directly on floor.5. Store materials on flat, level surface, raised above floor, with adequate support to prevent

sagging.6. Protect materials and finish during storage, handling, and installation to prevent damage.


1.7 WARRANTY

2.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Cantilever Metal Storage System: Design, fabricate, and install such that:1. Shelves are cantilevered without front supports, providing completely open, full width,

useable shelves.2. Shelf lengths are provided to completely fit layout indicated on Drawings without voids,

gaps, or wasted space.3. Shelves may be positioned at any height above base bracket.4. Systems with slots or holes that dictate shelf heights: Not acceptable.5. Specifier Notes: Typical spacing of uprights and shelf length is 48 inches (1,219 mm). Bracket and load capacity is determined by shelf span and depth. For metal shelves, bracket length is the same as shelf depth. For wood shelves, brackets are 2 inches (51 mm) less than shelf depth. 2.3 STORAGE SHELVING SYSTEM

A. Provide complete, cantilever shelving system consisting of modular shelves, uprights, shelf brackets, clamp assemblies, fasteners, and other components and accessories that can be field assembled; E-Z Shelving System as manufactured by E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc.

B. Compliance: System shall comply with Fed Spec AA-S-1048, Kind I, Class 2, Type 7D.

C. Layout: Dimensions, number of tiers, location, spacing, and details shall be as indicated on Drawings and approved shop drawings.

Specifier Notes: E-Z Shelving Systems can be wall mounted, freestanding, floor-to-ceiling mounted, or a combination of mounting methods.

D. Mounting Method: Shelving shall be supported on cantilevered brackets attached to [wall mounted] [freestanding] [floor-to-ceiling] uprights.

Specifier Notes: Nine standard types of shelving are provided for E-Z Shelving System. They are listed below along with the type of uprights and shelf brackets typically used. EZGS - Galvanized steel shelves and zinc-plated uprights and brackets.

EZGSL - Galvanized steel louvered shelves and zinc-plated uprights and brackets.


EZPS - Phosphate-primed steel shelves, uprights, and brackets with electrostatically applied plastic powder resin colored paint coating. Standard colors are white, tan, black, and gray. Custom colors are available as a special order.

EZAS - Sheet aluminum shelves and shelf brackets, extruded aluminum uprights, and zinc-plated steel foot brackets.

NSWZ - Zinc-plated NSF-certified wire shelves, uprights, and brackets.

NSWE - Zinc-plated NSF-certified wire shelves with powder paint coating and zinc-plated uprights and brackets. As an option, powder paint coated uprights and brackets can be provided. Standard paint colors for wire shelves are green, blue green, and gray. When used for Food Service standard paint color for uprights and brackets is gray. For other applications standard paint colors are white, tan, black, and gray. Custom colors are available as a special order.

2.4 SOLID AND LOUVERED SHELVES

Specifier Notes: Except for wire shelves, standard shelf lengths are 36, 48, and 60 inches (914, 1219, and 1,524 mm). Standard shelf depths range from 6 to 36 inches (152 to 914 mm) in 2-inch (51-mm) increments. Custom sizes are also available by contacting E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. Shelf size can be specified below for each selected shelf type. However, if several different sizes are required, it is preferable to indicate dimensions on Drawings or in a Shelving Schedule included in Part 3 of this specification section.

Specifier Notes: Solid surface shelves 24 to 36 inches (610 to 914 mm) deep can be used as countertops or work surfaces when mounted on special countertop-type brackets. As a custom order, countertops greater than 36 inches (914 mm) can be provided. In applications such as laboratories, cantilevered countertops can be used with shelving above and below. Include this article if countertops are required.

2.6 WIRE SHELVES

Specifier Notes: The three types of wire shelving provided by E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. - NSWS, NSWZ, and NSWE - are certified by NSF International for use in foodservice facilities.

Standard wire shelf lengths are 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, and 60 inches (610, 762, 914, 1,067, 1,219, 1,372, and 1,524 mm). Standard wire shelf depths are 12, 14, 18, 21, and 24 inches (305, 356, 457, 533, and 610 mm). Custom sizes are also available by contacting E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. Shelf size can be specified below as part of the wire shelf description. However, if several different sizes are required, it is preferable to indicate dimensions on Drawings or in a Shelving Schedule included in Part 3 of this specification section.

2.7 UPRIGHTS

Specifier Notes: Four functional types of uprights are provided for the E-Z Shelving System for receiving shelf brackets and supporting shelves:

Wall-mounted uprights with pre-punched, double flange for attachment to wall.

Floor-to-ceiling-mounted, double-faced uprights for back-to-back shelving and anchored with floor and ceiling brackets.

Freestanding, single-faced, heavy-duty uprights installed with anti-sway bars.

Freestanding, double-faced, heavy-duty uprights for back-to-back shelving and installed with anti-sway bars.

Edit the following paragraph to indicate types of uprights required for project. If more than one type is required, indicate with letter designation. Use same type designation on Drawings.

A. Types: Provide the following uprights as required for shelving layout indicated on Drawings.1. Type [A]: Wall-mounted upright with slotted tubular face to receive shelf brackets and

double flange on backside for attachment to substrate. Flanges shall be punched with [1/4 inch] [6 mm] diameter mounting holes starting [2 inches] [51 mm] from each end.

2. Type [B]: Floor-to-ceiling-mounted upright with slotted tubular face on both sides to receive shelf brackets for back-to-back, center-of-room storage. Upright shall be fabricated by welding or bolting two wall-mounted uprights back-to-back.

3. Type [C]: Freestanding, heavy-duty upright with single slotted tubular front face to receive shelf brackets and reinforcing channel on back. Designed to be installed with anti-sway bars.

4. Type [D]: Freestanding, heavy-duty upright with slotted tubular faces on both sides to receive shelf brackets and reinforcing channel in center. Designed to be installed with anti-sway bars.

Specifier Notes: Uprights are fabricated from four metal and finish combinations: zinc-plated steel, powder paint coated steel, extruded aluminum, and stainless steel. Refer to list in Article 2.3 Storage Shelving System for typical upright used in conjunction with various shelf types. Indicate required upright material in the following paragraph.

2.8 BRACKETS

Specifier Notes: Eight types of shelf and anchoring brackets are available for the E-Z Shelving System:

Single shelf, tapered bracket to support one shelf end.

Double, tapered bracket to support ends of two adjoining shelves.

Single shelf, rectangular foot bracket to support one bottom shelf, form end base, and anchor to floor to stabilize freestanding shelving units.

Heel dimension of tapered shelf brackets is with 2-5/8, 4-5/8, or 5-3/8 inches (67, 117, or 143 mm) depending of bracket length. Rectangular foot brackets have a standard height of 9-1/2 inches (241 mm) and custom height of 5-1/2 inches (140 mm). Bracket dimensions can be specified below. However if several different sizes are required, it is preferable to indicate dimensions on Drawings or in a Shelving Schedule included in Part 3 of this specification section.

Type of fastener used to anchor uprights and ceiling and foot brackets will depend of type of substrate and project conditions.

A. Fasteners: Provide fasteners as required for secure, rigid installation to meet specified performance requirements. Type, size, and spacing shall be as recommended by manufacturer and indicated on approved shop drawings. Minimum fasteners shall be:1. PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 COORDINATION

Specifier Notes: Include the following paragraph if uprights are mounted on stud walls.

A. Coordinate requirements for stud spacing, blocking, and auxiliary structural supports to ensure adequate means for installation of shelving system.

Specifier Notes: Shelves and countertops can be fabricated with cut-outs to accommodate columns, pipes, and other protrusions from wall.

B. Coordinate shelving system layout with columns, wall-mounted pipes and conduit, and other wall protrusions. Provide cut-outs in shelving [and countertops] such that components fit tight around protruding elements. Field verify required dimensions.

Specifier Notes: Include the following paragraph if floor-to-ceiling uprights are required.

C. Coordinate with installation of suspended ceiling system to ensure adequate blocking, bracing, and auxiliary structural support is provided for attachment of ceiling brackets and support of uprights.

D. Coordinate installation of shelving system with application of floor, wall, and ceiling finishes. To the extent possible, install shelving components after finishes have been applied.

3.2 INSPECTION

A. Before Installation:


1. Inspect substrates to receive shelving and verify surfaces are smooth, plumb, and suitable for anchoring uprights.

2. Inspect storage system components for damage. Do not install bent, dented, scratched, or otherwise damaged items.

3. Verify all required components are available.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install shelving system in accordance with approved shop drawings and manufacturer's installation instructions.

B. Layout storage system with temporary markings to indicate upright locations.

C. Wall-Mounted Uprights: Accurately space uprights and install plumb with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer for type of substrate.

Specifier Notes: Include the following two paragraphs if floor-to-ceiling or freestanding shelving is required.

D. [Floor-to-Ceiling] [Freestanding] Uprights: Attach foot brackets to uprights with clamp assemblies. Ensure bracket is perpendicular to upright. [Attach ceiling brackets to top of upright with clamp assembly.] Ensure uprights are accurately positioned and plumb. Secure ceiling bracket to substrate with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer for type of substrate.

E. Anti-Sway Braces: Where indicated on approved shop drawings, install pair of anti-sway braces on backside of uprights. Screw attach braces [6 inches] [152 mm] from top of upright. Attach bottom end of braces to adjacent upright forming an X.

F. Brackets: Insert shelf brackets in uprights and secure with clamp assemblies. Ensure brackets are accurately aligned so installed shelves will be level.

G. Shelves: Position shelves on brackets, align mounting holes, and anchor with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer.

H. Accessories: Install accessories in locations indicated on approved shop drawings. Install components rigidly, secure, plumb, and level with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer.

3.4 ADJUSTING

A. Remove and replace damaged components.

B. [Touch-up minor scratches on painted components with manufacturer provided paint matching original finish.]

3.5 CLEANING

A. Thoroughly clean and polish storage system components.


B. Do not use harsh cleaning materials or methods that could damage finish.

3.6 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed storage system components from subsequent construction activities.
