Cape & Plymouth Business magazine recovers lost files with Carbonite

Robert Viamari was a senior officer at Merrill Lynch back in 2004 when he had a revelation about Cape Cod, one of his favorite places to visit since childhood, when his family vacationed there each summer.

The economy in and around the Cape had been heating up, and the region had become "a mecca for small businesses," Viamari recalls. But there was no local magazine designed to serve the needs of businesses and help them thrive by providing useful information on topics like technology, entrepreneurship, social media and digital marketing.

That's when Viamari decided to set up a small business of his own and create Cape & Plymouth Business – the only monthly business publication serving Cape Cod, the Islands, Plymouth County and the South Shore in Massachusetts.

He began the process by building the technology platform used to lay out and publish the magazine and by hiring designers and editors, many of whom work remotely. He also had to make sure the staff had the tools they needed to do their jobs effectively.

"I had to pick and choose what worked well for me and my business," he explained. "So I picked the Android operating system for the phones. I picked Google Business for productivity. I picked Trend Micro for antivirus. And I picked Carbonite for backup."

Today the entire staff at Cape & Plymouth Business – and its new sister publication, Health & Wealth – are still protecting their story drafts, artwork, presentations and sales information with Carbonite's easy-to-use cloud backup and disaster recovery service. He rushed out, purchased a new Dell computer, and reached out to Carbonite's Customer Care Team for help. He quickly reached a tech support agent who explained that all of Viamari's files were safely backed up, and walked him through the process of recovering all of his files to the new computer. "And just like that – Boom! – I was back in businesses," Viamari said.
