In 2013, those steps brought us to a number of milestones; successes that may be some of our most visible and celebratory to-date. Thanks to the continued support and dedication of supporters like you, more survivors and their families have been given the opportunity to make their courageous journey and transform their lives for a better tomorrow.
2013: Impact HighlightsThe Youth Advocacy and Prevention program introduced its Teen F.I.L.T.E.R. (Factoring in Love, Time, Energy & Relationships) Day Camps, exclusively designed to provide the tools and skills teens need to increase self-esteem and promote healthy relationships.
The Adult Advocacy’s Standing Strong program, with the support of Fox Valley Technical College and the Women’s Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, empowered seven adult survivors to complete the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. Six graduates acquired employment in the field and continue to maintain self-sufficiency.
Other 2013 impact highlights include:
Renovation: Room for HopeThe excitement of the finished renovation project has not diminished as the shelter is now more accessible and better utilized by staff and survivors. Christine Ann is immensely appreciative for all the support it received in making this vision a reality. The positive feedback from clients, staff and the community has been wonderful.
Giving: The Pearl FundIn honor of observing 30 years of service in their respective communities, Christine Ann and Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs have come together to create The Pearl Fund campaign. In recognition of this milestone, the J.J. Keller Foundation will generously match donations up to $60,000. The campaign is extended through August, 2014; and, individual gifts up to $1,000 will be doubled until the $60,000 matching goal is reached.
On behalf of the board of directors and staff, we thank you for providing hope and opportunities to those experiencing abuse. Together we continue to stand strong and take the steps to prevent and end the cycle of domestic violence in our community.
Sincerely,
As the Chinese philosopher Laozi said,
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
