NUGENT FIELD HISTORY• Nugent Stadium is one of the most heavily used

fields in Rye - District athletic teams and community athletic teams

• Original turf field installed early 2000s (Donation to the District)

• Replaced twice (2004 & 2006) since installation, at no cost to the District, both results of storm damage

• Damage from past flooding was due to the force of the water and debris

• FEMA has studied the field and brook numerous times, and there are no plans to mitigate flooding

• FEMA and multiple other state and local agencies would have to approve raising the turf. Estimated time to get approval: 5-10 years

• District engineers have evaluated and designed an improved drainage system and specified infill that is more effective and longer lasting in flood-prone areas

• Custom tarp system will be designed to prevent damage

• Turf and associated materials to be installed meet the highest level of regulations in the U.S.

• Studies show concussions are far less common on turf fields

• Construction will begin June 1, 2020; weather permitting it will take approximately three months

• RMS & RHS PE classes will take place on the back field and the three gymnasiums during construction as needed
