TF-Operations@C-ITS Deployment Workshop
5th of November in Brussel
Mario Friedrich (Chair of Task Force Operations)
11/13/2019 1C-ITS operational aspects
Motivation
The long-awaited deployment has become reality. Infrastructure devices like road works warning
trailers or mass marked vehicles are in the field.
Now, all eyes are on these first deployments and a positive user experience is crucial to pave the
way for the success of this technology and the fast follow-up by further infrastructure providers
and OEMs.
To ensure, the important positive user experience, structures and responsibilities need to be
prepared to:
handle any cyber security or interoperability issues showing up between different C-ITS
stations during operation, that cannot be handled by a single stakeholder.
Be able to quickly react to upcoming obstacles, in preparation of the operations phase,
eg. Problem management processes

Vision
TF-Operations will handle and facilitate resolutions for common operational issues for cooperative services in a cooperative manner:
Relay issues to existing standardizing / mandating organizations (EC, C-Roads, C2C, ETSI etc.)
For cooperative systems in the field (priority services)
TF-Operations is also supporting the deployment and implementation of cooperative services in a cooperative manner to ensure interoperability, on topics that are not covered by the standardizing / mandating organizations. This is an ongoing process with topics added as they occur.

• In communication networks an important role is operations
and maintenance. This is normally the role of the network
operator.
• But in an vehicular ad-hoc network there is no single
operator – everyone are responsible for their own
equipment.
• But If problems ?
• Where to report them ?
• Who will follow-up to identify the problem ?
• Who will ensure actions are taking to resolve it ?
• To resolve this question there is the need to create a
process that will function as a virtual operator.
• TF Operations is preparing such a process
