Do your market research using TheLadders, Indeed,Glassdoor etc. and determine:
1. What’s the ideal dollar amount you want 2. What dollar amount (given the going rate) isreasonable and would still make you happy? 3. What is the lowest dollar amount you’d accept?
Come in, Let's talk.
Before You Talk Salary

“Men indicated that they had initiated negotiations two to fourtimes as recently as women."
“Women receive salary offers about nine percent lower than menof similar education and experience.”

Make the decision to negotiate in the first place. When not working with a recruiter, assume that your salary is negotiable, and that you don’t have to accept the first offeryou receive.
Have your research prepared on the market rates for your similar position (especiallyconsider geographic location – even Fort Worth pays differently than Dallas)
Approach the conversation by highlighting your key competencies with a “communalconcern” – or in other words… it’s not about me, it’s about what I can do for you. Thishelps to mitigate the negative reputational affects for women.- Stanford ProfessorMargaret A. Neale
Attitude: Keep it confident and optimistic
Toot your own horn. Make sure people know what you’ve done. When negotiating for araise, share your successful accomplishments
Role play with someone to feel out ways you’re comfortable in driving theconversation…key word, DRIVE!

1. Assess: Is this a situation where I can influence theoutcome?
2. Plan: How might I influence it? What do I want to achieve? What is important to them? Why are they making thisdecision or creating this problem?
3. Ask: Here is what I need to help solve this problem thatmakes me better off and at least keeps my counterpartywhole.
4. Package the proposal: Take the information you have andyour counterparty has to find a better solution. No one hasperfect information. For women, do that with a communalview.
And finally, don’t be afraid of asking!”
- Stanford Professor Margaret A. Neale

"If not me, who? If not now, when?"
Like Reddit, should companies eliminatesalary negotiations? (although they canconvert cash to equity if chosen)
Studies have shown, “Perceptions thatwomen are relatively easy to misleadmay increase deception if negotiatorstake advantage of the opportunity todeceive…”
