Mandelring String Quartett

GOLD SPONSORS: Pix Morgan, Alexis Packer - Attorney at Law, George & Karen Wilson, Vince & Patty Wixon

SILVER SPONSORS: Chris Donchin, Fred & Laura Perloff

“Brilliance is not a strong enough word — it’s more like an electric shock. The music transfixes the listener from literally the very first note, electrifying heart and brain without any advance warning. Mendelssohn’s music as played by the Mandelring Quartett, under extreme tension, heated and feverish, is dangerously close to catching fire!” So wrote the Neue Zürcher Zeitung in a CD review. The music magazine Fono Forum classes the ensemble as one of the best half-dozen string quartets in the world. Launching their career of over 30 years by winning major competitions — in Munich (ARD) and Evian and Reggio Emilia (Premio Paolo Borciani) — today their performing commitments take them to international musical centers such as Vienna, Paris, London, Madrid, New York, Los Angeles and Vancouver, and they tour regularly in Central and South America, the Near East and Asia. Wherever these four musicians appear, they leave behind lasting musical impressions.

“Passion, precision, warmth, a gold blend: these are the trademarks of this excellent Israeli string quartet.” Such was The New York Times’ impression of the Jerusalem Quartet. With their founding in the 1993–94 season and subsequent 1996 debut, the Israeli musicians embarked on a journey of growth and maturation that has resulted in a wide repertoire and a stunning depth of expression. The quartet is a regular and beloved guest on the world’s great concert stages, and is especially well received in North America, where it has performed in cities such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Washington as well as at the Ravinia Festival. In Europe, the quartet enjoys an enthusiastic reception in prominent concert halls such as the Zürich Tonhalle, the Munich Herkulessaal, Wigmore Hall in London, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, and many others. “An absolute triumph. Their playing has everything you could possibly wish for.” (BBC Music Magazine)

Founded in 1988, the Minguet Quartett is one of the most internationally sought-after string quartets today. The passionate and intelligent interpretations of this German quartet always ensure inspiring listening experiences — “for the joy in sound and expression with which the ensemble makes the works speak enlivens even the smallest detail” (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). The namesake of the quartet is Pablo Minguet, a Spanish, 18th-century philosopher who attempted, through his writings, to make the fine arts accessible for the general population. This season the quartet appears at renowned concert halls such as Library of Congress Washington DC, BOZAR MUSIC Brüssel, Brucknerhaus Linz, Beethovenhaus Bonn, and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, followed by concerts in Austria, Great Britain and the United States.
