Introduction
This Release Note describes application of “Casting Simulation System, ADSTEFAN Ver.2017”. Any results
grained from the application shall be used at user’s own responsibilities.

1. BEFORE USING Ver.2017
Ver.2017 can co-exist with previous versions. For preparation and compatibility, we describe as follows.
Notification about installing Ver.2017
(1)For updating driver in USB key (later HASP) for authentication of license, when installing ADSTEFAN,
remove HASP key from PC in advance.
(2) For operating and finishing ADSTEFAN’s installation normally, confirm IME’s(Input Method Editor)
setting contents in advance, and according to the necessity, change the setting. Follow these steps.
(*) Following steps is describing on the assumption that English (United States)-US is selected as the
Input Languages. As for setting about other languages, please confirm to local distributor or
ADSTEFAN center.
(2-1) Confirm the setting about IME. From starting menu in Windows, select the “Control Panel”.
(2-2) In the window “Control Panel”, select the menu [Change keyboards or other input methods” in [Clock,
Language, and Region”.

(2-3) In the window “Region and Language”, please click the button “Change keyboards”
in the menu “Keyboards and Languages”.
(2-4) In the window “Text Services and Input Languages”, if “English (United States) – US” is selected. it is
OK, else operate by following steps.
(2-5) On the window, if the menu “English(United States)” - “Keyboard” - “US” is not displayed, click the
button “Add”, otherwise go to step (2-7).
(2-6) In the window “Add Input Language”, select the checkbox “English(United States)” - “Keyboard” - “US”.

(2-7) In the window “Text Services and Input Languages”, select the pull-down menu as “English(United States)
–US”.
(2-8) Reactivate the setting PC.

For activation of new version, Version’s information in HASP key should be updated. Refer to the following item
1-1 or 1-2.
1-1. Upgrade from Ver.2011 or Later Version
(1)Insert the HASP key in the PC, which ADSTEFAN has been already installed.
(2) Start up ADSTEFAN.
(3) Click “Configuration” - “Hardware Information” - “Protect Key Information” on the menu bar.
(4) Click “Collect Information” after HASP HL RUS window is displayed. Then, select a folder to save the
generated file and enter a name of the file as “Protect Key Number (8digits).c2v,” e.g. “08012301.c2v”.
(5) Please send the generated C2V file to local distributor or ADSTEFAN Center for upgrade.
1-2. Upgrading Procedure of Protect Key
After the request, ADSTEFAN Center or sales distributor emails you a patch file. About details, refer to the
ADSTEFAN help “Updating Procedure of Protect Key”.

・DVD-ROM: 1 (ADSTEFAN Program, User’s Manual, HASP Driver)
・USB Protect Key: 1 (Provided when you purchased the software)
4.THE COMPATIBILITY WITH PREVIOUS VERSION
・The input data created in Ver.2011 or higher version can be read in the new version. Each result data is
transferred to the new version’s format automatically.
・The input data created in Ver.12 or lower versions has to be converted by a conversion tool. For the details,
please refer to ADSTEFAN help “Conversion” - “Utility : Conversion”.

5.REVISED FUNCTIONs in ADSTEFAN Ver.2017
5-1. General
5-1-1. Revision of license management policy
・Manages executing job number instead of CPUs number, for utilizing parallel computation and Message Pass
Interface(MPI) more than usual.
(*) Upper bound of partitioning number about region in MPI is same as license number.

5-2. Mesh
5-2-1. Algorithm for automatic mesh generation
・Revises the calculation method for opened ratio and occupied ratio in casting mesh for blended element method.
This enables temperature analysis for a rough mesh of blended elements*4
with high accuracy in a short
period of time.
・By applying the logic for mesh generation in blended element, normal element can be also handled.

5-3-1. Overview
5-3-1-1 Handling Temperature-Dependency Material Properties
・When setting “Calc. Temperature and Time Dependence” as “OFF”, and temperature dependency is set in
setting window of material properties, the handling method is as following table.

5-3-2. Enhancement in Setting of Filter Condition (Fluid Flow Analysis)
・Setting multiple different filters can be defined, and different permeability in each filter can be set.

5-3-3. Introduction of Blended Element Method(Die Temperature, Solidification Analysis)
・Implements temperature analysis by considering each blended element, approximation of shape in the
boundary between casting and mold(Casting Volume and Surface Area) will be improved, and as a result,
analysis is also more accurate than conventional.

・Enables analysis result that is projected to casting and analysis result displayed in mold surface by different

5-4. Displaying Analysis Result
5-4-1. Perspective Displaying
・As 3D Projection Method, displaying style by “perspective” or “orthogonal”(conventional) can be switched.
By perspective method, model can be displayed three dimensionally.

5-5. Utility
5-5-1. Tool for Extracting X-Ray CT Void
・By utilizing CT value of each section imaged using CT equipment of X-Ray, creates the product shape. After
that, extract the void such as shrinking cavity, air entrapment inside product model.
As for extracted product and void model, enables them to outputted to STL file.
(*) For activating this function, the contract of “X-Ray linkage Tool” is necessary.

5-5-2. Mapping Tool for X-Ray CT Data
・By superposing the data by tool for extracting X-Ray CT void and analysis result by ADSTEFAN, searches
element that is matching to void area extracted in each closed loop of analysis result. As an extracted tool,
ADSTEFAN Ver.2017

matching element number and rate are displayed in this tool.
(*) For activating this function, the contract of “X-Ray linkage Tool” is necessary.
Analysis results for mapping tool are as following items.
Fluid Flow Analysis : Air Entrapment Volume/Residual Air Volume
Solidification Analysis : Soundness of Degree/Soundness of Degree before Additional Feeding

6.RESTRICTIONS
6-1. Available Language
In ADSTEFAN, not only Japanese version, but also English version and Chinese version are available.
6-2. Graphic Board
The graphic board with OpenGL 2.0 or better is required for ADSTEFAN Post Processor.
7.UPDATED MODULES
Modules are updated due to enhancements of functions or bug fixes by reflecting user’s request. Release of
updated modules will be announced on ADSTEFAN homepage (http://www.adstefan.com/english/index.html) or
by sales agent.
