One of the country’s leading and well established Homecare products firms based in Staffordshire, Castle Comfort, now proudly have hundreds of clients on their books who have achieved the ‘90’ milestone, and even seven who have received their royal telegram, having passed 100! The oldest, a lady from Silverdale, Newcastle under Lyme is approaching 107 years of age.
Castle Comfort, who specialise in products and gadgets to make life a little easier, believe that there is another contribution to longevity. In fact, perfect proof of this is CCC’s senior team member, Dr Neil Stirling.
On approaching his ninth decade, he still arrives at his Wolstanton office brighter and earlier than some other colleagues! Neil has been based there since retiring from medicine in 2003. It is no secret that the ‘Stairlift Doctor’ himself, some time ago, took measures to ensure his safety and comfort at home. Apart from enjoying for years the luxury and advantages of adjustable beds and reclining chairs, Dr Stirling chose, before it became essential, to have a stairlift fitted at his Cheshire home. Although he can still deal with stairs, he may not run up them quite as fast as before, so a chairlift was installed. So, the sensible thing is ‘to plan ahead’ and that’s advice any doctor would give - even to himself. And as if he didn’t know already, there are less obvious bonuses. We are told that a third of our life is spent in bed. Yet some folk change their partners more often than their mattresses or beds! AFTER 42 YEARS, A BUSINESS WITH THE SAME CUSTOMERS?Then it must be doing something well!If a company always keeps it customers then it may not need new ones. Obviously that may not always be possible – but when Keith Simpson started Castle Comfort Centre back in 1997, a certain policy had already been drummed into him by older experienced colleagues at Tunstall’s H&R Johnson Tiles, where he worked on leaving school. It was – ‘look after a customer and they are yours for life’.
Well, nearly two decades later, Castle Comfort can proudly boast that the majority of new sales made of their products are to the original people, or their families, and frequently this being a following generation, or to friends. It must be for lots of reasons – value for money is obvious, but the essential ingredient is service. The model of riser recliner chair Keith originally sourced for his own mother, ‘The Comfy’ (and that is how CCC began) continues to be sold daily. Due to the demand and the company’s buying power, it is currently on offer (see below) at a lower price than its RRP in those early days!

But if twenty years can slip by… TRY FORTY! When CCC boss was chatting to his Macclesfield hairdresser recently, it was calculated that over four decades had slipped by since Keith was ‘hijacked’ by a Cheshire ceramic tile distributor from his desk at Johnson’s tiles in Tunstall.
Based in Macclesfield, Keith then became a client of hair stylist Paul Williams, who was also beginning what was to become a long and successful career. Like many other folk, the Castle Comfort boss remains a client of his after all those years. In fact, the local Cheshire registered office of the mobility/homecare products company, is now interestingly at the same

So Paul, like Castle Comfort, surely keeps the best standards, using his skill, to continue to prosper. Most of his clients too go back to the early days. Have prices changed? Well, perhaps not really compared to wages. Keith recalls he doubled his pay to £25 weekly on changing jobs, and found that a gents’ trim in those days was around about a pound. Now it could be around a tenner, depending on how much hair you have left! Yes, cost with everything is important – but keeping those customers for ever is down to... service.
