We are very excited to see how the Evangelism Trailer has been

used throughout the Inland Empire. It is a tool in which many

churches are utilizing in reaching out to their communities for the

very first time. Pastors Gil Villalpando and Pastor Julio Sandoval

of Grand Terrace Community Church stated that 3 new families

joined their church as a direct result of the community outreach program

utilizing the Evangelism Trailer. By the end of this year it will have been

used in over 30 events. We have churches who have now booked it into

the year 2011. Last year alone it was used in 13 events where over 100

individuals accepted Christ for the first time. As a result of the high demand

for this trailer many churches have been unable to reserve it. The demand

and the results of this Evangelism Trailer has taken us by surprise, so

as a result of this unexpected blessing, we are looking to purchase a

Growing Numerically and Spiritually Involves Change. As long as you have empty seats in your service you have need and room to grow. “In simple terms, there are only two ways to grow a church: we must bring people in the “front door,” and we must keep people from going out the “back door.” --- Gary McIntosh and Glen Martin, Finding Them, Keeping Them, B&H Publishing Group 1992, Nashville, Tennessee, p. 9. “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” --- Albert Einstein, brainyquote.com In 1990 Carol and I were flown to Chicago. The company needed us to move to Dallas to make the conditions right for growth in that area. The organization had plateaued and was beginning to decline. Their years of success and growth had been replaced by personal complacency and mediocrity. The lower production levels they had accepted fostered discontent with those who wanted an opportunity to grow and make a difference in their own lives and the

lives of others. Sound familiar? Change is a natural, normal process of life. We only grow when we change. Churches that have plateaued or are beginning to drop in attendance must go through change in order to grow and thrive. Getting to the heart of the issue, congregations have to be the church in addition to doing church. Churches that want to grow must establish programs that reach the community. They need an ongoing, planned outreach strategy. Evangelism and baptisms must become a passion. Sharing our faith with others is critical to the growth process. We are not alone in our efforts. Jesus said in Acts 1:8, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (NKJV) Everyone is going to spend eternity somewhere. They should have the opportunity to spend it with Jesus.

There are a number of very exciting training opportunities coming up in the next few months. They will all be publicized under separate cover but here are the highlights of what is coming up:

The Sunday School Preparation and Training Conference will be held twice this year. The first conference will be on Saturday, September 11 at Hemet Valley Baptist Church and the second one will be on Saturday, September 18 at First Baptist Church, Rialto. The new book Great Expectations will be the text this year. There will be conferences for preschool, children, youth and adult workers, as well as general officers. The same material will be taught at each event. There is no charge and you need not pre-register. We will meet at 8:30 a.m. for refreshments and conclude at 12:00 noon. A letter about this event will be mailed soon.

Our annual Hispanic training event Adiestrados para la Excelencia will be on Saturday, October 2 at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church, Riverside. Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the meeting will conclude at 3:00 p.m. A publicity packet will be mailed out in a few weeks. Dr. Fermín Whittaker will be the keynote speaker. There are 17 conferences to choose from this year.

The TRANSFORMED CONFERENCE featuring Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron will be on Saturday, November 13 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Highland. There is no cost but you must register at www.livingwaters.com. Registration will be open on October 1, 2010. We can only host the first 2,500 who register, so don’t wait too long. A letter and flyer will be mailed out on Thursday, August 12, but you can read all about it at the website by clicking on Transformed Conference.

I want to take this opportunity to mention a word about my long time friend, Larry Burrow. He just retired after 47 years of ministry, the last 24 of those at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church, Riverside. His leadership, Christ-like spirit and servant heart have been an example to everyone who has had the privilege of working with him. He has been a great champion of associational work and a tremendous help with all of our training events over the years. God bless you Larry and Becky as you head off to Texas and a new phase of your ministry.

I want to start by thanking all of you who prayed for the National convention held in Orlando this year. It was truly

inspiring to see the many ministries Southern Baptist’s are engaged in. I plan on writing more about it in next month’s

article. This month I want to bring a need to your attention. As you can see, we are emphasizing the evangelism trailer

in this month’s Clarion and the reason is simple. First of all to show how your gracious support is truly helping

churches as they share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Second, we need another one! We are turning down churches who

want to use the trailer for outreach events. With over 200 churches in our association it is clear that one trailer is not

going to be enough. I praise God that our churches are going outside of their walls and sharing the gospel through

these events. One of the desires I have is to truly be a blessing to any church that is seeking to organize and have

evangelistic events. The trailer saves a church approximately 1,500 dollars in needed supplies and we are also going to

offer to produce the first 500 advertising flyers for free. In the last 3 weeks we have had to turn down a number of churches who

needed the ministry trailer. Thus we are asking you to help us put together another one. The total cost if nothing is donated is about

15,000. We also need to trade our current single axel trailer for a double axel trailer due to towing and safety reasons. I pray that as you

read this the Holy Spirit will prompt your heart to help us, for in doing so you will be allowing us to be a blessing to our churches in the

Inland Empire who are engaging in evangelistic events. I can think of no greater means of investment than to invest in that which leads

to the salvation of others! If you have any questions please contact me at 909.534.5113.

The Way Christian Fellowship Perris Church in the Spotlight

house and usually has around 40 to 45 kids

The Way Christian Fellowship (TWCF) was started in March 2003 by Pastor Noland

Turnage and his family. Before starting TWCF, Pastor Noland had been the associate

Pastor at Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Rubidoux since December

1984. TWCF began with their first Adult Bible study on a Thursday night in May and

had 8 KIDS show up. Pastor Noland wasn't in complete surprise that it was all children

because his family had been having a Good News Club (GNC) in their home since

February 1997. In December 2003, they started Sunday Morning Worship and were

reaching a large portion of kids and teens. The church also began hosting GNC’s at the local elementary

school. The church expanded their GNC outreach by adding a second one last year and then added a third one this year.

Between the three, they reach about 100 children per week with God's Word. During the summer TWCF takes the

GNC’s to local apartment complexes, parks and even fields. The church also has Vacation Bible School at the pastor’s

TWCF is strong in the area of diversity. If you were to visit TWCF you would see all local races and ages represented,

with some that like to dress up for Sunday mornings and others that prefer shorts. They are also strong in their

children’s ministry because the church makes the children feel welcome, with or without their parents. They encourage

the adults to take an interest in the children around them by sending them a note, asking about school and making them

feel loved because many of them at church receive no encouragement at home. One of the outreaches of TWCF is a

sno-cone and popcorn event held around neighborhoods at various locations. Recently they did one at the Perris Elementary School District

employee appreciation event and a local business grand opening. The Way Christian Fellowship church name is prominently displayed on the

machines. Several of their people are able to pray with those that request it. It is a wonderful way to show God's love to those around them and

people are generally suspicious, especially when getting things free. They put up a defense, thinking they will be preached at and when that does

not happen, they respond. These people ask for prayer as well as information about the church.

TWCF is also excited about the 18 people that have been led to Christ, five recent baptisms, and the nine people that have joined their church.

They are grateful to Pastor Tom of The Grove who has mentored Pastor Noland, and has allowed TWCF to use their baptistery. The Grove has also

sent over worship teams while TWCF searches for a worship leader. Pastor Noland recently put out a 100/80 ('180 challenge') which is to lead 100

souls to Christ, and bring 80 people into the TWCF where they can continue to "Make Disciples that are Making a Difference." TWCF would love

for you to pray that they will find a building. They have several community ministries that they run

through the pastor’s 1100 sq foot house. They do not

have enough room for all of the outreaches that they

would like to do; for instance, Sunday School, a youth

center, movie nights, and community meetings. They

need a facility that can be used often and are sure God

has a building for them somewhere. Also pray for them

as they search for a worship leader. If you know of

someone who may be able to fill this position you can

call Pastor Noland, 951-943-1430.

Here’s your chance to enjoy an evening with the New America

Bring the entire family for an uplifting

and entertaining program, featuring

the same choreographed music, drama,

Haiti Trip—May 16-24

Pastor Kirk recently took a team to Haiti. The team represented 4 churches in Southern California. Pastor Kirk and his team were able to bring supplies for the orphanage, en-courage the staff that volunteer to care for and teach the children, and encourage Pastor Julian who lost his wife, home, orphanage, school, and church building in the earth-quake. They also met with local leaders and pastors to strategize on ways to reach Haiti for Jesus. They were also able to connect Pastor Bobby with other pastors for fellow-ship, networking, discipleship, encouragement, and accountability. The team then shared the Gospel with a crowd of people in the city of Saint-Marc town square during flag day where the flag was made and where the president celebrated. On this trip they had 12 divine appointments that developed partnerships with Pastor Bobby, 5 healings, and over 30 salvations. The Mexican government also gave a container to the orphan-age with 2 little rooms and a storage room filled to the ceiling with food, diapers, water bottles, paper goods, and cleaning supplies. Pastor Kirk also met with Pastor Julian who has been a pastor in Haiti for 30 years and has planted 7 churches there. Pastor Julian has talked to other pastors in Haiti and said he loves what Set Free Church stands for and how they are all about Jesus. He told Kirk the Sunday before he preached that he is changing his church name to Set Free Church and wants to come aboard with them. He also said the other 7 churches in Haiti are going to change to Set Free church as well. Set Free is honored to come along side our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus in Haiti. You can watch the mission trip video by going to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i231MHa0nKc You can still help the people of Haiti. Here are some of the things we need: 1. There are 48 children and they are sleeping on the ground. Pastor Bobby and his wife

Darlene and their 2 boys sleep on the ground as well. It's cement ground and is dirty. Many of them are getting sick from breathing in the dust and their skin has rashes. We found a place in Haiti that will build metal bunk bed frames for $60each and mattress for $20each. We hope to buy 25 bunk beds which equals $2,000.

2. We are looking for churches to sponsor a kid monthly starting at $20 a kid. There are 48 orphans and Pastor Bobby has 2 young boys.

3. We need a big roll of screen for the windows to keep the mosquito's and bugs out.

4. We need cement blocks, wood, and corrugated sheet metal to build a new bathroom and shower facility for the kids.

5. We want to purchase one of those Metal Sheet buildings that come in a kit to send down there to build on the new site. Before we do anything on the property we need to build a fence around the property for security.

Kirk is looking for teams of Doctors and Nurses to go do clinics, builders to help demolate damaged property and build new walls, teachers to help train teaching methods for the teachers at the school, and pastors/church leaders to train up Haitian pastors and church leaders. Those that want to come need to get a passport, have their travel shots updated, take malaria pills, and plan for it to be hot. Kirk located some great places for teams to stay. The guest houses are nice and have showers, electricity, great meals, and internet. If you or your church is interested, please let Kirk know. He is willing to go down there in July or August after he gets back from the Philippines in June. His number is 909-615-0427.
