St.Clair – edition 308 – on 21 April 2020 the U.S. NTSB released a Marine Accident Brief on the fire aboard the St Clair in February 2019 whilst the vessel was in winter lay-up at the CSX TORCO Iron Ore Terminal at the mouth of the Maumee River in Toledo, Ohio. The resulting damage is estimated in the sum of USD150million. The report determines that the probable cause of the fire was the ignition of combustible material in engine room workshop likely due to the use of portable space heaters or smouldering smoking materials, which spread to other areas of the vessel but the actual source could not be determined. The report suggests there was a lack operating procedures for continuous active monitoring of the vessel whilst in lay-up.

Golden Ray ß – editions 337, 338, 339, 340, 341, 342, 343, 344, 346, 348, 352, 355, 358, 360, 361, 362, 364 & 366 – on 17 April 2020, T&T Salvage

company installed the third and fourth lifting lugs on the vessel in St. Simons Sound, Georgia. 16 lugs are scheduled to be installed, two lugs on each of the eight sections of the wreck. The lifting lugs, which are designed to distribute the weight of each particular section during the cutting and lifting operation, will be connected to the rigging of the VB-10,000 twin-gantry catamaran.

Stolt Groenland Í – editions 340, 341, 342, 344 & 351– more the six months after the explosion in Ulsan it has been determined that repair of the vessel is not commercially viable and the vessel will likely be sold to breakers. The vessel remains in Ulsan near the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.

Kaami S – editions 365, 366 & 367– the salvage of the freight, which remains aground between Skye and Lewis in the Hebrides, is progressing following a period of favourable weather. Much of

the oil pellet cargo has been discharged from the vessel and focus will now be on internal damage assessment of the hull and temporary repair before the vessel can be pulled off the rocks.

AG Valor – editions 366 & 368 – the vessel and cargo still remain anchored off Rosario. Cargo needs to be lightened from the vessel in order to reduce her draft for transit on part of the river Parana.

Aziz Torlak – edition 368 – the vessel remains aground in Dhakla. It is expected that lightering of the 5,822 m/t of diesel and 667 m/t of gas oil will be required. The port authority have ordered the shipowners to take action to remove the vessel but may intervene shortly if no steps are taken.

PIRACY NEWS Containership Tommi Ritscher (IMO 9656137, Built 2014, 58, 252 dwt, London Club) was attacked by pirates at the Cotonou anchorage off Benin in the Gulf of Guinea. Eight crew members are thought to have been taken hostage whilst 11 others sought safe shelter in the citadel.
