MISSION STATEMENT

Uceda is a privately owned educational institution recog-

nized as a provider of excellent academic and cultural pro-

grams. In order to achieve our mission we believe that col-

laboration among all of its constituents is indispensable; the

use of innovative instructional methodologies and appropriate

technology are required for successful learning, and the basis

of our curriculum are the needs of our students. In doing so,

we provide the opportunity for student's personal and occu-

pational growth, as well as, their increased self-esteem.

i

HISTORY

Education has been a tradition for the Uceda family since 1902, when they founded “Instituto Uceda” in Peru. This Institution went on to become a University. During the 1960's Juan J. Uceda established “Instituto Jose Carlos Mariategui”, which along with English courses offers training in various other fields such as, Accounting, Nursing and others. Uceda was founded by the Uceda Family in 1988 in the USA, and presently has 10 locations throughout New York and New Jersey, becoming one of the largest chain of ESL schools in the US. The Uceda Family strives to remain continuously involved in the supervision of classes, teachers and students enrolled at their schools. The Uceda tradition combined with their cur-rent system of teaching offers today's student the basic tools required to succeed in this land of opportunity.

ceiving financial aid. Prepaid tuition will be refunded according to the school refund policy.

RE-ENTRY POLICY

Students who have been dismissed from the school and are requesting re-entry must put the

request in writing to the school Director. Depending on the reason for dismissal the student

may be able to re-apply to the school for readmission. In cases where the student was dis-

missed for unexcused absences or financial concerns it may be possible to reenter within the

it may be possible for the student to receive private tutoring and then reenter the school. In

GRADING SYSTEM

The competencies taught in the courses offered at Uceda will be evaluated to both written and oral examinations. The minimal grade for graduation is 75. Students who achieve lower than 75, but who have not failed the course may participate in private tutoring or independent study in order to increase their grade point average. LETTER NUMBER WEIGHT DESCRIPTION GRADE GRADE IN POINTS A 93 - 100 4 Excellent B 92 - 87 3 Above Average C 86 - 79 2 Average D 78 - 71 1 Below Average F 70 & below 0 Failure INC. 0 Incomplete WD 0 Withdrawal WP 0 Withdrawal Passing WU 0 Withdrawal Unsatisfactory

A student's Grade Point Average (GPA) is based on the summary of grades received through testing. The GPA is determined first by multiplying the number of tests by the summary of the tests grades.

INCOMPLETE GRADES

Incomplete grades are given only when student is unable to complete course because of ill-

ness or other serious problems. An incomplete grade is given when through negligence or pro-

crastination students fail to turn in work or take examinations. A student who misses final ex-

amination must contact the instructor within twenty four hours of examination. If the absence is

excusable, the student will be given an Incomplete or otherwise graded accordingly. If the ab-

sence is not excusable or the student does not contact the instructor, an incomplete grade will

not be awarded but the examination will be considered as failed and the student graded ac-

cordingly. Instructors must file an incomplete form. Students are given one week to make up

missed examinations. Work and examinations that are still incomplete after the end of the one

week deadline will be assigned a grade of F. It is the student's responsibility to contact the fac-

ulty member about completing the course of work, taking examinations or if necessary extend-

ing the deadline.

enter a probation period. The student will be able to take advantage of in-school tutoring. Up to

4 hours without additional tuition costs. Should additional tutoring be necessary the student will

be obligated to pay $20 per tutoring hour. The probation period will be two weeks, (10 days), or
