The Risen Lord is with us always to the end of time… (Matt. 28:20) Jesus' departure and ascension into heaven was both an end and a beginning for his disciples. While it was the end of Jesus' physical presence with his beloved disciples, it marked the beginning of Jesus' presence with them in a new way. Jesus promised that he would be with them always to the end of time (Matt. 28:20). Now as the glorified and risen Lord, ascended to the right hand of the Father in heaven, Jesus promised to send them the Holy Spirit who would anoint them with power from on high on the Feast of Pentecost, just as Jesus was anointed for his ministry at the River Jordan (Lk. 3:21-22, 4:1,18). When the Lord Jesus departed physically from the apostles, they were not left in sorrow or grief. Instead, they were filled with joy and with great anticipation for the coming of the Holy Spirit. But why did the Risen Lord have to ascend into heaven? The Father raised the glorified body of his Son and enthroned him in glory at his right hand in heaven. The Lord Jesus in his glorified body now reigns as Lord over the heavens and the earth - over all that he has created. He reigns from the throne in heaven as our Merciful Redeemer and Gracious King. He intercedes for us and he empowers us through the outpouring of his Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus gives us new life in his Spirit and he strengthens us in faith, hope and love; so that we can serve him and carry on his work as citizens of his kingdom here on earth. St. Paul reminds us that we are called to be ambassadors for Jesus Christ. Just as ambassadors are appointed to represent their country and to speak on behalf of their nation's ruler, we too are appointed by Jesus to speak on his behalf and to bring others into a close and personal encounter with the Lord and Ruler of heaven and earth. This is the great commission which the risen Christ gives to the whole church. We all have been given a share in this task - to be heralds of the good news and ambassadors for Jesus Christ, the only saviour of the world. We have not been left alone in this task, for the risen Lord works in and through us by the power of his Holy Spirit. Today we witness a new Pentecost as the Lord pours out his Holy Spirit upon his people to renew and strengthen the body of Christ and to equip it for effective ministry and mission world-wide. Do you witness to others the joy of the Gospel and the hope of the resurrection? ENTRANCE ANTIPHON: You will receive the power of the Holy Spirit

coming upon you, and you will be my

witnesses, even to the ends of the earth,

alleluia.

FIRST READING: Acts 19:1-8

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Ps 67:2-7

R. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth.

Let God arise, let his foes be scattered.

blown away,

like wax that melts before the fire,

so the wicked shall perish at the presence of

God.

But the just shall rejoice at the presence of

God,

they shall exult and dance for joy.

O sing to the Lord, make music to his name;

rejoice in the Lord, exult at his presence.

Father of the orphan, defender of the widow,

such is God in his holy place.

God gives the lonely a home to live in;

he leads the prisoners forth into freedom.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: Alleluia, alleluia!

If then you have been raised with Christ,

seek the things that are above, where Christ

is seated at the right hand of God.

Alleluia!

poor.

May the Lord be blessed day after day.

He bears our burdens, God our saviour.

This God of ours is a God who saves.

The Lord our God holds the keys of death.

St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal Together we can do Heroic Things. This winter, heroes can be found in the most unlikely places. Some will be finding the courage to rebuild their own lives. Others will be donating their precious time to Vinnies, volunteering to help Australians in need. After escaping an abusive relationship, Emma sought help from Vinnies volunteer Jack. He helped Emma find a safe home for her sons, and the foundation for a future without fear. When you give to Vinnies, you’re helping our volunteers rebuild lives this winter. Please consider making a heroic donation to help Australians in need. Envelopes are available at the doors of the church.

O SAVING VICTIM O saving victim opening wide The gate of heaven to us below. Our foes press on from every side Thy strength supply, thine aid bestow. All praise and thanks to thee ascend For evermore blest three in one, O grant us life that shall not end In our true native land with thee AMEN.

HYMN OF ADORATION Down in adoration falling, This great sacrament we hail; Ancient types have long departed Newer rites of grace prevail Faith for all defects supplying Where the feeble senses fail.

Glory let us give and blessing To the Father and the Son, honour, might and praise addressing while eternal ages run; Equal praise to him confessing who proceeds from both as one. AMEN V. You have given them bread from heaven R. Having in itself all delight.

PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY Lord Jesus Christ at your last supper you prayed to the Father that all should be one. Send your Holy Spirit upon all who bear your name and seek to serve you. Strengthen our faith in you, and make us love one another in humility. May we, who have been reborn in one baptism, be united in one faith under one shepherd. Amen

Prayer

GOD WITH HIDDEN MAJESTY God with hidden majesty, lies in presence here,

I with deep devotion my true God revere:

Whom this outward shape and form secretly contains,

Christ in his divinity manhood still retains.

All my other senses, cannot now perceive,

But my hearing, taught by faith, always will believe:

I accept whatever God the Son has said:

Those who hear the word of God, by the truth are fed.

Blest reminder of the death suffered for the world,

Sacrament of living bread, health to every mind,

Let my soul approach you, live within your grace,

Let me taste the perfect joys time shall not efface.

SATURDAY MORNING

Marian Prayer

O Holy Queen, Mother of mothers,

consolation and protectress of all Christian mothers,

Mother Mary, help me.

In all the trials and sorrows that come into my day,

dear Mary, help me.

When I am tired with my labors and

despondency is upon me,

dear Mary, help me.

When all looks dark and I find none to

speak a consoling or cheering word,

dear Mary, help me.

When I am wearied by the weight of

countless vexing little things and my

patience is sorely tried,

dear Mary, help me.

When my efforts seem to bear so little fruit

and to be so little appreciated, and I am discouraged,

dear Mary, help me.

When I have tried hard

and others do not seem to understand,

dear Mary, help me.

When a thousand worrisome distractions

and annoyances come into my day and it seems so hard to keep my peace of

heart,

dear Mary, help me.

In all things, Mother, assist me! That I may, like yourself, with patience, turn

all my trials into spiritual treasures;

That I may grow ever more like you, the

cherished Queen of the most Holy Family,

dear Mary, help me! Amen.
