Reflection and Discussion

Palm Sunday is the dramatic beginning of the most important week of the liturgical year. That’s right, Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday when we hear the Passion of our Lord. It’s a time when we are solemnly invited by the Church to be serious about the meaning of this season of Lent and the implication of God’s action on behalf of all humanity in the ultimate sacrifice of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. This is a time to examine our conscience, to deepen our resolve and to renew our hearts by really letting God’s love change us, make us better, lift us up and turn our lives inside out.

• Have you spent time examining your conscience and considering what in your life needs change and conversion?

• Have you made resolutions during Lent that have fallen to the wayside or have made no real difference for you?

• Have you considered that spiritual renewal might come to you not through huge turn around change, but through simple and subtle, but real improvements along the way?

• What resolutions can you make during this week that make a difference beyond the present season into the reality of your everyday life?

Holy Week is a time to get serious and to start taking responsibility for your life. It’s a time to stop blaming others, but to forgive and move on. Jesus asked his Father to forgive them for they know not what they are doing. So too, during this Holy Week, we must take hold of our lives, get beyond the barriers that keep us from change and be committed to renewal, letting the passion of Christ wake us up to the need for conversion of our mind and heart from this day forward.
