Principal News As a Principal, it is always wonderful to acknowledge the academic achievements of our students. Singapore International School prides itself in being a school that achieves good academic results. Two students have received prestigious awards from Cambridge International Examinations to acknowledge their outstanding performance in the June 2015 Cambridge examination series. The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards programme celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries around the world. Cambridge places learners at the centre of their international education programmes and qualifications which are inspired by the best in educational thinking. The following students received Top in Vietnam awards: Tran Xuan Kieu Dung - IGCSE English as a Second Language (oral endorsement) - IGCSE Mathematics (without coursework) Bach Quoc Trung - A Level Mathematics These awards recognize the talent, dedication and commitment of both students and staff. It is extremely rewarding to congratulate Tran Xuan Kieu Dung and Bach Quoc Trung who have worked so hard to achieve tremendous success in the Cambridge examinations. The results are a reflection of the enormous talent in SIS, not only amongst students but also with the staff of SIS. Students from Singapore International School have a bright future ahead of them, and I wish them every success in their future.

Parent-Teacher Interviews Thank you to the parents who attended our parent teacher interviews on 27 and 28 October. It is important to discuss your child’s progress and identify their strengths and weaknesses. By identifying any weaknesses early this will greatly assist you and your child on areas to focus so that their academic progress will improve. It was a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Uniform Due to the weather changing, students are starting to wear jackets and jumpers. Please ensure that your child wears the school winter uniform which can be purchased through the uniform shop. We also supply warm grey tights for female students. Please adhere to our school uniform policy. Details can be found in your child’s student handbook. Important Events: Christmas Charity Fair/SIS@Gamuda Gardens Grand Opening This year our Christmas Charity Fair will take place on Saturday, 5 December. In conjunction with the Christmas Charity Fair will be the Grand Opening of SIS @ Gamuda Gardens. All KinderWorld schools from Hanoi will take part in this extravaganza! All proceeds of the day will be donated to Operation Smile. There will be lots of fun activities, food, art and crafts and entertainment for the whole family. More information regarding this major event will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Hwa Chong Institution Visit Hwa Chong Institution will be visiting us for an immersion programme and homestay between 12 – 19 November. We are currently looking for families that can host students. If you are interested in hosting a student from Hwa Chong please contact our administration office.

Dear Parents, Students and Community, After a positive kick off to the new school year students and faculty are settling into campus life and their daily routine. SIS Gamuda Gardens offers a variety of opportunities for the proactive student who strives to set the bar of achievement high. As I continue my visits throughout campus, it thrills me to look ahead for a compelling school year filled with challenges that create an environment for success of a global citizen.

Reinforcing life skills are high on the priority list of an educator. Part of learning a life skill is first impressions. A huge portion of non-verbal communication centres around the attire we put on every day. A great example of this is the school uniform policy. Commanding respect for the school uniform is uniquely team oriented. The school uniform prepares the global student for leadership, unity and teamwork. If you are wearing the uniform that identifies you with a certain school, people will be able to distinguish you. When prospective worldwide universities set an appointment to visit SIS@Gamuda Gardens, the first impression and one that the university will remember lasts a lifetime.

Dear Parents and Students,

With plentiful work in a new, spacious and

modern school as well as support from

parents, students and teachers of SIS

made great effort to overcome obstacles,

quickly settle and fulfill educational

activities this term:

Commencement of the School Year Ceremony in September

Mid– Autumn Festival.

School events: September – School traditions, October –

Ceremonies of Nation and Hanoi such as the 70th year

anniversary of Vietnam Independence Day, the 61st

anniversary of Capital liberation, the 85th anniversary of

Vietnamese Women Union. These event immerse students

in traditional and educational values.

Orderly school routine: Examinations have been

implemented as schedule. Families whose students could

not attend class because of sickness received lesson plans

by teachers in order to instruct their children.

I wish you a happy term break. I am looking forward to see you

Message from the Head of Studies

Dear Parents and Students, It has been a great start to our first term

at our new SIS @ Gamuda Gardens

campus. The School had a very busy

term with many developments designed

to enhance the total quality of teaching

and learning. Our new primary level

English and Mathematics programmes

began well with children engaging in a wide variety of interesting

and productive learning experiences. A large quantity of new

library books was purchased to bolster the primary collection.

A primary reading scheme has been organized for

implementation next term and Years 6 – 9 integrated classes

have been producing various assessment materials for

submission to the Department of Education and Training and for

the parent-teacher interviews. Our busy schedule is driven by the

belief that continuous improvement across the school pays

dividends for everyone in our school community. I hope you all

have a pleasant term break.

Dear Parents and Students, We have reached the end of Term 1 and are already a quarter of the way through our academic year. Term 2 is an important term as our teaching picks up pace and intensity and I would like to use this month’s newsletter to communicate the importance of revision, even at this stage of the year. No matter what the students’ learning style is, each and every student needs to revise their work to ensure the content is cemented into their knowledge. The best way to become an effective learner is to be organised, use time wisely and plan ahead. With such a short time available from now until the exams it is important that your son or daughter can: 1. DUMP anything that does not need to be done at all (eg.

Playing Minecraft). 2. DELAY what they can’t dump until a suitable time that does not interfere with their revision plan (eg. tidy their room during a
