Timelines/ Milestones (→ IMoU)

• prototypes of subsystems (photodetector, mirror + support) – Spring/Summer 2010

• complete RICH prototype and tests in testbeam - Spring/Summer 2011

• RICH design simulations of limiting factors - end of 2010

• RICH engineering design - Autumn 2011

• TDR - End of 2011

• be able to apply for funding for detector building in 2012

• finish detector building until 2016 (?)

Plans

Preparation of complete RICH prototype to be tested in electron/pion beam at GSI, CERN or elsewhere (Europe):

• PMT plane of 3x3 or 4x4 H8500 with n-XYTER readout (electronics to be improved for an upgraded prototype) (Wuppertal, GSI)

• mirror prototyopes from Compas (HS Esslingen)

• mirror mount (PNPI Gatchina)

• gas vessel, gas system (PNPI Gatchina)

• design (GSI, PNPI Gatchina, Wuppertal)

RICH prototype at Pusan, Korea

• test specifications for gas system (gas purity and controls, stability and control for temperature, pressure,…)

Plans (II)

→ enables us for a preparation of a TDR till the end of 2011

→ test mechanical integration, working conditions of complete system, evaluate simulations,……

Further investigations in the lab:

• characterization of possible PMT options (q.e., collection efficiency, uniformity, wls films, sensitivity to magnetic field (shielding?),…)

• optimize readout electronics, specify requests for RICH suitable CBM-xyter chip

• mirrors (thickness, mirror mount,…), adjustment and alignment system

• controls

→ please read carefully IMoU draft and send your comments!

→ set up detailed list of tests/ measurements needed for final design/ decision on options/ design….
