StonewareStoneware is made from naturally occurring stoneware clay or non-refractory fire clay and differs from Porcelain not only in colour shade, but also in the way it is fired. Where Porcelain becomes vitrified during the second firing (second firing is hotter than first firing), Stoneware is vitrified during a single firing. It can be once-fired or twice-fired. Maximum firing temperatures can vary significantly, from 1100 °C to 1300 °C . Generally it can be fired at lower temperatures than Pocelain resulting in a finish that has a warmer colour than Porcelain. Stoneware can be decorated using Under-Glaze, On-Glaze, or In-Glaze techniques. Under-Glaze decorating is most commonly the preferred method of decoration used for Stoneware.

New Bone ChinaNew Bone China is made using a translucent white ceramic clay containing at least 30% bone ash. In England, the percentage of bone ash must be at least 50% for a piece to be considered New Bone China. When fired at over 1200° C, it will stay pure white or a light cream and will become translucent. It is considered to be a very durable ceramic with a fine refined delicate look and is widely used to make dinnerware to use for special occasions, but many people use it for their daily needs.

Advantages of New Bone China are its translucent and fine composition, opaque texture and delicate appearance, and its lightness and durability.
