Through the Football CCA, members are provided opportunities to learn about the importance of building a resilient character through discipline, hard work and teamwork. The CCA also provides students the opportunity to represent the school in zonal and national football competitions annually. Under the guidance of our dedicated and experienced teachers and coach, we aim to develop the passion for football in our young players and mold them into not only skillful players on the pitch but responsible contributors off the field.

Athletics is a popular CCA among the students. As a competitive sport, we

emphasize the importance of discipline and commitment. Any Team Pioneer

Athlete who wishes to improve on their abilities has to be committed and

attend the CCA sessions regularly. They must also have the discipline to

listen to our coaches’ instructions and do the activities well. Training

sessions are always interesting as we infuse fun activities during our

training.

Even though there are 3 disciplines in athletics, which are running, jumping

and throwing, a lot of focus will be on running. Every athlete will be given a

chance to try the different disciplines during their training.

Pioneer Primary School started the sport of Wu Shu in

2007. The objective of Wu Shu is to develop student’s

self-discipline and improve whole-body fitness. In

Pioneer, Wu Shu is both an exhibition and play

experiences contributing to the holistic development of

individual child. Our Wu Shu programme is geared

towards nurturing young kids to young adults through

play. Students who joined the CCA will get to perform

during school events as well as participate in

competitions such as the National Primary School

Championship.

In this CCA, students learn different genres of Indian

Dance which helps to increase one’s social interaction

and boost self-confidence. Indian Dance enhances one’s

mind, body and co-ordination which helps one to focus in

studies and other daily activities. In this platform, they

are given opportunities to perform for various school

events. They have participated in SYF 2018 and have

achieved a Certificate of Distinction. Through these

performances, the passionate dancers learn to work

together, stay resilient and produce the best as a team.

Our Malay Dance CCA comprises of 30 students, ranging from P2 to P6. We aim to promote the beautiful nature, customs and culture of the Malays. Our dance members portray the way of life of the Malay people with the graceful movements of the Malay Dance. From the coaching of our experienced and talented dance instructor and choreographer, Mdm Wefi Sofianah, our dance members are able to master the different types of the Malay Dance steps; such as Zapin, Inang, Ronggeng and Joget.

Besides learning the skills and techniques of Malay Dance, our students get to learn and practise desired characters such as commitment, teamwork, determination and resilience. Through perseverance and dedication, they showcase rich and jubilant performances, donned in vibrant Malay Dance costumes.

Our members were given opportunities through various platforms to discover their talents in the arts and providing them with diverse opportunities to learn, collaborate, grow and engage with the community. Most importantly, our Malay Dance members display the value of doing their best for every performance.

In 2018, the Chinese Dance members and International Dance members

came together to form the Contemporary Dance CCA. Pioneer Primary School

Contemporary Dance CCA comprises of 40 students, ranging from P2 to P6.

With this new arrangement, students were given more opportunities to be

exposed to different forms of dance, including contemporary dance, modern

dance, hip hop and jazz.

In 2018, the students participated in Singapore Youth Festival – Dance

category. Despite the tough training, our students persevered and overcame

various challenges. They brought glory to our school name as they achieved

the SYF certificate of Distinction for the 5th time consecutively since 2008.

Other than honing their dance skills, the Contemporary Dance CCA

also place utmost importance on character building. Through the dance

practices, students are taught the value of discipline, focus and determination.

Students are given opportunities to be expressive and they gain confidence in

themselves. Our teachers constantly plan team-building activities for students

to learn how to work as part of a team, develop a greater sense of trust and

cooperation and of course, to make new friends!

Each year, the choir members have many

opportunities to perform either in school

events or outside of school. This year,

the choir participated at Chijmes for the

Voices of Singapore Festival, Singapore

Youth Festival at SOTA and Pioneer

Primary Experience at Jurong Point.

When preparing for a performance, choir

members learn important values such as

resilience, patience and teamwork to sing

in harmony as one choir.

Being in the choir family means

exhibiting cooperation, harmony,

obedience, integrity and respect. We

welcome interested new students to join

the choir for an audition and discover

the wonderful world of singing together

in a group. One voice, one choir!

Our choir consists of an enthusiastic bunch of young members who share a

passion for singing and have built up close friendships with each other.

During choir practice, there are many fun warm-up activities and games to

engage the members in their singing. Singing in the choir is a forum for sharing,

laughter, fun and provides a safe environment to try new skills. For example,

choir members learn basic musicianship such as reading and following a musical

score.

Joining the choir also harnesses members in their communication and teamwork

as it promotes active participation in singing together as a choir. For example,

senior members are given the opportunity to guide and teach younger members

during sectional practice as they prepare for a performance.

Pioneer Primary School is one of the few schools in the West that has

Chinese Orchestra. We believe that music has no language boundaries. Although we

are named the Chinese Orchestra, we welcome students from all races to join our

musical family. Currently our group of 60 members include 5 Malay students and 2

Indian students. Through the Chinese Orchestra, we aim to promote the

appreciation of Chinese and Contemporary Music and to give students

opportunities to learn a musical instrument.

School-based and External Performances Our Chinese Orchestra took part in school-based and outdoor performances

to allow our students to build up their confidence and gain stage experience. We have participated in many occasions such as Chinese New Year, Racial Harmony Day and Mid-Autumn Festival and have been invited to perform at Nanyang Community Club, Jurong Point Shopping Mall and Frontier Community Club.

Direct School Admission (DSA)

We would like to congratulate Joel Chan (P6 Student in 2017) who had been offered a placement in Nan Hua Secondary School through DSA.

Chinese Music Instrumental Grading Examinations

To further hone their skills, students are encouraged to take part in the Chinese Music Instrumental Grading Examinations organised by The TENG Academy and the Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University. In 2017, 8 students attained Distinction, 7 students attained Merit and 5 students attained a pass. 2 students also attained a pass in their NAFA grading examinations.

Learning Journey

We will be attending at least one concert each year. This is a good opportunity for parents and pupils to learn more about Chinese Orchestra music.

“There is a musician in every child”

Our Art Expression Club aims to cultivate a love

and appreciation for the visual arts in each of our

member. Apart from participating in the Singapore

Youth Festival (SYF), we also aim to reach out to

the community by engaging in various meaningful

community projects.

Our Art Expression Club members are also given

opportunities to produce art pieces for school

based events, fund-raising events as well as to

beautify the school environment. Through the

weekly sessions of hands-on activities and termly

learning journey trips, we hope to develop positive

values and art skills in these young learners. Like

what Picasso says, “Every child is an artist”, we

hope to inspire them and encourage them to

express themselves creatively through different

forms of art.

The objective of the Cub Scouts program is to provide a group environment which is intellectually stimulating, physically vital and directed towards satisfying the child’s need to face and overcome challenges. Self-developmental activities are well-entrenched components of the overall drive towards encouraging “Fun & Discovery” among the Cubs.

The activities are based on the natural sense of fun and enthusiasm. Thus, the training is achieved largely through games, interaction in small groups and activities.

Cub Scouts members actively participate in district and HQ events. Learning journeys are also organized to gain knowledge and skills. Cub Scouts aim to earn a series of Badges, which give them knowledge of basic Scouting skills and mark achievements in areas such as campcraft, air and water activities, citizenship, improving the environment and community-involvement activities.

With the focus on responsibility, respect and care for the environment as a crucial facet, the Environmental Club hopes to inculcate environment awareness for all, students, staff and the community to adopt an environmentally conscious lifestyle through various voluntary events and activities. The club is constantly engaged to create environmental sensitivity and awareness in order to assist others to acquire social values and a deeper interest in the environment that may drive them to actively participate in its protection and improvement. The club harnesses individuals in their communication, teamwork and hands-on skills as they promote participation of all in learning about and working towards the conservation and sustainability of their environment. The club members are trained to become environmental champion ambassadors leading environmental activities and events in school, identifying and implementing values-based environmental programmes within the school and community and sharing and communicating their environmental activities and ideas to all. There will be several major environmental events throughout the year. Some of the events are Earth Hour and World Water Day which will usually take place in March, Earth Day in May and Science and Green Week in July. Around the globe, millions of people set aside time to host these events and make impacts for climate change action.

With effect from 2018, Robotics Club CCA and IT Media Club CCA have merged and is renamed as InfoComm Club CCA. This is to ensure better alignment to the CCA’s new direction and focus so as to provide the students with the necessary 21CC outcomes and prepare him/her adequately for the future workforce.

We have included computational thinking skills for the students to learn Coding for MakeBlock mBots and Parrot Mambo Minidrones in Semester 1. In Semester 2, the students will also use Makey Makey, an inventive tool and toy, to allow him/her to connect everyday objects to computer programmes. The CCA plans for a progression of skills and tools to be learnt throughout their journey in Infocomm Club.

The school will also provide multiple platforms and opportunities for your child to showcase his/her learning. There will be competitions and showcases during recess time for him/her to extend his/her learning beyond the CCA sessions.

Toastmasters Club aims to develop students into confident and effective public speakers. We hope to inculcate in our students good manners and grace in social speaking. All activities are approached in a motivating and enjoyable way where the teacher leads and guides as a member of a group, providing the language and communication model for students.
