It is a 25-question multiple-choice contest and its goal is to increase interest in mathematics through challenging students with critical-thinking problems and rewarding top score students with certificates and pins. As students of an international school, 28 5th to 8th grade students at Cheongna Dalton School participated in the examination on Tuesday, November 17th. Not only are these students high-achieving math students in their math classes, but they also hold a concrete foundation of mathematics and prepared well for the 2015 AMC 8 with examinations from previous years. We are very proud of the 28 students for successfully completing the AMC 8 this year. We look forward to the scores which will arrive in early to mid-December.

New Collaboration Between CDS and

Incheon Public School Teachers

The Science Fair is an annual event with the aim of nurturing student’s curiosity and interest in the sciences. It was

hosted on the 13th

November by the science department with great success. There were a wide range of submissions

spanning all disciplines and every entry was to a very high standard.

Jasmine Kwon (G8) took the first place in the presentation category for an excellent talk on her home-made water

filtration system. A close second were Grace Cho, Kate Kim and Tammy Lee (G8) with their talk on potato goo and

non-Newtonian fluids. Finally, in third place were Eugene Kang, Andy Chang and Kevin Lee (G7) with a talk on the

reflectivity of different cloud types.

The CDS science department would like to thank everybody who took part; it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening

with lots of great science on show. Time to start planning for next year’s entry!

On November 12, six Korean English language teachers from Incheon public

schools observed Mr. Scoville’s and Mr. Cavasin’s English classes.

Following the observation, all teachers engaged in a rich discussion about

how we can engage and motivate young people with student centered learning

activities. CDS Middle School valued this exchange of ideas and looks

forward to more opportunities to learn from one another in the future.

Jasmine Kwon Jasmine Kwon has demonstrated hard work,

dedication and a desire to have a positive impact on

the lives of others this year. She has maintained

excellent grades, while also showing leadership and

creativity as treasurer of Student Council, helping to

plan We Run Cheongna, fundraisers, the Halloween

Party, and now she is working on project ideas to help

homeless animals in our community. She is always

there for her classmates when they are having a hard

time and is also a very positive role model for other

students. She is truly an example of the potential of

CDS and always displays the 6 C's proudly.
