A wide variety of sizes and choices of TechZone field panels, technical panels, and accommodating fixtures are available to you enabling virtually limitless options for your TechZone ceilings design.

Our new sleek 4" wide technical zones give your TechZone ceiling a more monolithic visual than ever before, especially when configured with our variety of large-size Optima® field panels.

We offer 6" wide technical zones designed specifically for the use of continuous lighting fixtures. With the addition of our new patent-pending yoke system, these technical zones allow for the design of a continuous, uninterrupted lighting visual across the span of any room.

There are 50 standard design configurations possible using 4" wide, 6" wide, and 12" wide technical zones. Each Technical Zone is engineered for 4' and 5' ceiling modules, and on-center spacing as narrow as 4' and as wide as 10'-6".

Continuous Lighting

TechZone on-center spacing options for 6" wide technical panel configurations for continuous linear light fixtures have been pre-qualified to maximize lighting efficiency and effectiveness. Consult a lighting engineer for any TechZone layout, to ensure fixture spacing will be code-compliant and will meet the needs of the space.

Tartan Layouts

Tartan layouts feature off-module spacing to accommodate light fixture and air diffuser installation in two directions, and/or integrate 12" wide chilled beams. One tartan layout configuration is available for both a 4' and 5' ceiling module. The on-module tartan configurations will allow for the ceiling design to match building layout, but will accommodate fixtures in one direction only.

Perimeter Treatments and Transitions

All TechZone design configurations integrate with standard, pre-engineered Axiom® Classic, Axiom-Transitions, Axiom Building Perimeter System, and Drywall Grid perimeter and field transitions solutions. See drawings on pages 34-36, or visit our website at armstrong.com/techzone.

TechZone ceiling systems are installed using standard 15/16" or 9/16" grid components. For standard 4", 6", and 12" width TechZone, main beams should be installed perpendicular to the technical zones. Cross framing or countersplayed suspension, as detailed in the Armstrong Commercial Ceilings and Wall Solutions Guide (CS-3479), may be required in instances where the building structure will not permit main beams to be installed perpendicular to technical panels. This additional framing will impact overall installed ceiling costs.

For 6" wide technical panel configurations for continuous linear lighting, main beams must be installed parallel to the technical panels. The TechZone yoke connects the parallel main beams without the need for a cross tee, as detailed in the TechZone installation instructions (LA-297714).

Plenum depth required for the installation of panels is 3" for 2' x 4' panels, and 6" for 4' x 4' panels. In most cases, installation of HVAC and lighting fixtures will require more plenum depth than ceiling panels. 6" wide technical panel configurations for continuous linear lighting will require a plenum depth of at least 9-1/2" for the yoke installation. Add an additional 3" when the yoke is to be suspended from wire.

Other Considerations

• Optima® and Ultima® lay-in field panels are not recommended with 9/16" grid.

• Interlude® XL® and Silhouette® XL are not recommended when using lay-in field or technical panels.

Installation in Seismic Areas

There are no unique requirements for the installation of TechZone ceiling systems in seismic areas. The TechZone yoke assembly for continuous linear lighting has been tested to withstand seismic forces in all IBC categories

Optima fiberglass panels offer high outstanding acoustical performance in open plan areas where noise levels and speech privacy are important. They are not, however, recommended for closed offices and conference rooms where sound absorption or blocking noise from adjacent rooms is critical (unless the panels are installed with an optional CAC backing).

Why Choose Ultima?

Ultima mineral fiber panels provide excellent sound absorption and prevent sound transmission from one area to another, and are ideally suited for closed plan offices or spaces.
