There’s Royalty in the Air Sunday, Dec. 31All Three ServicesSanctuaryDec. 31 celebrates Epiphany. This is when the wise men followed the star that brought them to the Christ child. They came bearing gifts for the newborn king. The children present at each service will process down the aisles of the church that morning. So, please come experience this special service.

Dec. 31 is also an endowment collection Sunday. If a month has five Sundays, Oak Hill UMC utilizes the fifth Sunday for a special collection benefiting our Endowment Fund. This fund helps maintain our church for future generations and special projects. Our resident pig, Miss Penny Banks, will be here Sunday in her royal garb to help the children collect your loose change and dollars for this important fund. Your gifts to the church further God’s work in the world.

••• Children’s News— It’s almost time! Experience “Bedlam at Bethlehem” during our 3 p.m. Family Christmas Eve Celebration on Sunday. And don’t forget about the cookie decorating party that immediately follows it!

— Jenny Holm, Director of Children’s Ministries, highly recommends a free phone app called “Parent Cue.” The app helps parents interact with children from morning time to bedtime with the goal of moving the children toward a deeper faith and a better future. The app is available for FREE on Apple and Android devices. •••

Stephen Ministers Can Help During Difficult TimesFor some people the holiday season can be a very difficult time of the year. It can be a time of sadness, loneliness, and hopelessness, a time of self-evaluation and reflecting about the past, and a time of anxiety. Those who have lost loved ones, been separated from loved ones, or have had health issues can find it to be a very blue time. Too much pressure from the season can bring on stress and depression.

Whatever you are feeling, a Stephen Minister is available to you for prayer after every church service. You will find one waiting to listen, hold your hand, give a welcome hug, and extend God’s love through prayer with you.

Stephen Ministers care for people facing tough times through confidential, one-to-one Christian care. They provide the emotional and spiritual care needed when someone is faced with a crisis or difficulty such as grief, spiritual needs, health issues, relationship problems, job situations, or other life challenges. If you are in need of someone to share your concerns, please email Rae Barho at [email protected] or call her at (512) 589-5871 and ask about speaking with a Stephen Minister. For more information: www.oakhillumc.org/stephen-ministry/.

A Journey for the Heart!Christmas is about Jesus, but Advent, it seems, is about Mary, who is always pointing us toward Christ. From Mary we learn how to open our hearts to God, as she did at the Annunciation, when Gabriel spoke to her about giving birth to God’s son. Mary demonstrates over and over again what selfless service for others can look like. Mary opens our hearts to the truth that transformative mystery lives within the ordinary.

Her exploration of Mary will not only provide instruction for the mind but will also be a journey for the heart.

UMW Presents Six Special Mission Recognition PinsOn Sunday, Dec. 10, UMW presented six Special Mission Recognition Pins to members who have tirelessly led and served in mis-sions to fulfill our UMW purpose. Here are their nominations:

Charlotte Bennett is a dedicated worker in Mary/Martha circle, the Worship Team, Hugs, Dorcas, and member of a small prayer group. She is silently and constantly working to develop a creative supportive fellowship for women at Oak Hill.

As treasurer of UMW, Angie Bragg works tirelessly to expand concepts of mission and to keep records of our dues and our funds flow-ing out to the many missions UMW supports. She works on OHUMC mission teams, attended the leadership workshop in Kansas City and is considered “The nicest person in the world to take a walk with,” and referred to as a person “we couldn’t live without.” More often than not you can find her working in the kitchen if a meal is being served.

Betty DeJong is the person you see selling Rada and That’s My Pan items. The funds she helps to raise pay for much of the work UMW does and supports many UMW programs. She took a good program and made it great! Betty also serves on SPRC and the Worship Team.

Cathy Herzog is social justice through public policy! She is a leader and inspirer, educating us about human trafficking, the UMW leg-islative event, and Texas Impact. During the past legislative session, she worked constantly attending briefings, writing weekly summa-ries of pending votes, and encouraging us to voice our opinion to our representatives.

Lydia Polomski is social justice on steroids! She lives a life perfected by love and good works, serving Montopolis Friendship Center. As a member of our OHUMC mission commission, she serves on OHUMC mission teams, has attended Mission U, and represents our congregation as a delegate to Annual Conference.

Pastor Jim Roberts is our fearless leader and inspirer, infected with God’s love and a passion for passing that love on to the world be-yond our windows. His actions speak as loud as his sermons as we see him going to Haiti, Galveston, Sierra Leone, working on OHUMC mission teams and Go! Days, and leading all people to freedom through Jesus Christ.

The UMW thanks you all for your service and leadership!
