Principal’s Note

Grandparents Day

How wonderful it was to see so many grandparents

and community friends join us for Grandparents Day.

This gave our school community the opportunity to

celebrate the role grandparents and older people play

in our society. To thank them for their ongoing support

and everything they do for us. The students and staff

loved having everyone here to share in the students’

learning and love for their grandparents.

Congratulations to everyone who made this a special

day. There are some lovely photos of the day included

in this edition of the newsletter. Congratulations to

Faye Law, Noah Haisell and Michael Southam who

were the winners of our P & C Raffle. Our P & C

committee would like thank everyone for their

contributions on the day.

Wheelchair Roadshow

The roadshow raises awareness of wheelchair sport,

creates a greater understanding of students with

disabilities, and encourages acceptance and

integration. Last Friday the Roadshow made a visit to

Junee Public School and our students had the

opportunity to participate in a game of wheelchair

basketball. Thank you to Wheelchair Sports NSW for

providing such an informative and enjoyable learning

experience for our children.

Musica Viva

On Monday we had the pleasure of hosting our local

schools Illabo Public School, Eurongilly Public School

and Junee Preschool for a very entertaining

performance by Musica Viva. There is nothing like the

excitement and power of a live performance and we

were so fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy the

music of acclaimed performers in our school. The

drumming rumbled loudly in the hall and out into the

COLA and the music could be heard clearly by our

office staff, they were bopping away in their seats. All

our students and guests had a great time as well.

Canteen News

Last term our school was assessed against the five

focus areas of the NSW Healthy School Canteen

Strategy food and drink criteria. At the P & C meeting

Barb McLean tabled the full report provided from the

assessment. Our school met three of the five focus

areas. We are working towards achieving the other

focus areas and with more changes to our menu in the

not too distant future, this goal is very achievable. If

you would like to see a copy of the report or have

some suggestion for healthy choices in our canteen,

please don’t hesitate to contact me.

P & C News

On Monday evening our P & C committee met at the

school. There were many items discussed on the night

but there is one discussion point I would like to

address. It was decided at the meeting, with several of

our executive resigning after this year that all vacant

executive positions would be filled at the one time in

the AGM meeting next year. A date for that will be

forthcoming. If we can’t fill the executive positions our

P & C will fold. If you can afford to volunteer some of

your time and would like to join our P &C committee

or nominate for an executive position we would love to

have you come along and be part of our great team. I

can guarantee there is never a dull meeting and if the

last one is anything to go by, we enjoy a good laugh

too. We hope to see many new faces next year and

have some exciting things planned.

Pedestrian Crossing

This week it was raised by several concerned parents,

the poor state of our pedestrian crossing. The crossing

is very faded and hard to see and motorists often drive

through it. This issue has been reported to the Junee

Shire Council by several community members and

myself. They have assured me that the crossing has

been job listed for repainting. I will inform you of the

progress of this matter and in the meantime, please be

cautious. Look before crossing and wait for cars to stop

before stepping out onto the road.

Year 6 Farewell Dinner

With the support of our P & C committee it had been

decided that this year the Year 6 fare well dinner will

be hosted off site. We are currently in the process of

obtaining quotes through local venues to cater and

host the evening. We have chosen the evening of

Tuesday 18th

December and invitations and more

information will follow shortly.

Proud and Deadly Awards

Last week, some of our students would have received

invitations to attend the Proud and Deadly Awards.

These awards are presented in partnership between

the Department of Education and local and Riverina

Regional Aboriginal Education Consultative Group

(AECG) in celebration and recognition of the

achievement and excellence of Aboriginal students

from Kindergarten to Year 12 in Public Education. This

year the award ceremony is being hosted at the Wagga

Wagga Commercial Club on Thursday 15th

November.

Students are to attend using private transport and

parents are encouraged to come and watch their child

receive their prestigious awards. If you are unable to

attend and your child requires transport to the event

please contact the school as soon as possible.

Enjoy the remainder of your week.

Kind regards,

Tracy Delaney

Our PBL focus has been Follow Instructions. Although

we have taught this focus many times our data

indicates that students need reminding and prompting

to follow instructions. Our focus for the next two weeks

is Be Resilient. During this time of the year students

are asked to step out of their comfort zones and

extend themselves during class assessments and end

of year activities. Resilience is not only a habit for

learning but also one which students will draw on in

the playground, on the playing field and at home.

Resilient students are better able to cope with changes

to routines, meeting high expectations and the

changes a new year will bring.

News from the Classroom

Welcome back to Guguburra as we head into our final

term.

All the students have been hard at work, finishing off

final assessments for reporting. I commend the efforts

of the whole class whom have been settled with a

positive attitude towards all tasks. This has certainly

been a great start to our last term for 2018, with a

bigger and brighter 2019 just around the corner.

In Literacy, students have been focusing on building

their writing skills and knowledge of sentence features

to develop more complex narrative texts. To

complement their efforts, students are also beginning

to look closely at information texts. Students have

been enjoying learning about penguins and other

animals from the Antarctic as their writing focus. It has

been wonderful to see the progress that students have

made over the past weeks, all showing great pride in

their work.

In Mathematics students have been applying their

knowledge of additive strategies to understand the

inverse relationship with subtraction. During activities

students have enjoyed using their familiarity of place

value to assist them in furthering their skills.

Continuing on from Term 3, students are working on

their timetables with increasing fluency. In the coming

weeks student will be investigating Money, Time and

Measurement.

During Geography lessons students are investigating

the Riverina and the landscape of the region. Students

have been looking at the land features and major

infrastructure that make up our local district. This has

inspired some great discussion and interest during

learning, as students are able to relate to their personal

experience.

With so many exciting things happening in this term,

students have already been involved in Grandparents

Day, Musica Viva and for Year 3 the Stage 2

excursion. For students in Year 3, the trip to Canberra

was an exciting and fun packed day with the zoo the stand out attraction.

The Sports Report (by Mr Cox)

Congratulations to Bailey Whitton who represented

Riverina at the NSW State Athletics Carnival. Bailey

placed 1st in his category for shot put and 16th overall.

He placed 19th in discus and in a NSWPSSA first,

completed the 100m using a race runner.

Congratulations to Bailey for his wonderful

achievements in Athletics this year and to all students

who have competed throughout all PSSA activities. We

are looking forward to big things from Junee Public

School next year!
