A TYPICAL CLASSbodyViVe™ is an all round, low-impact workout that lets you choose just how hard you work. it’s ideal for those new to group fitness, those returning to exercise or rehabilitating after an injury, pre and postnatal mothers, and active adults who want the benefits of improved cardio fitness, strength and flexibility.

The opening heart fitness section uses the VIVE™ ball to help you work on mobility, flexibility, cardio and agility. we also incorporate some easy dance moves to keep the fun levels up, team you up for a walk track, and then ease down into some relaxing Tai chi and yoga.

The next focus is functional strength. The ViVe™ tube helps you to work on different sets of muscles. you’ll also improve your posture and leg strength with some balancing exercises.

when you’ve worked up a thirst in the summer heat, sometimes a cold glass of water just won’t cut it. Most of us reach for sodas, sports drinks, energy drinks and even sweetened teas and fruit juices to quench our thirst. while these taste great, they are loaded with sugar and other sweeteners, which provide added calories and little to no nutritional value. what’s more, these sugary drinks can increase your risk for weight-gain and obesity.

So, how can you quench your thirst without relying on sugar-filled beverages? here are some healthier alternatives to get you started.

Sparkling Mineral WaterThere’s no recipe for this one. it’s bottled water that contains minerals and carbonation but no sugar. it sometimes quenches that urge for a soda because of the fizzy bubbles.

Green Teastudies of green tea have shown that it may help reduce the risk of several types of cancer, heart disease, hypertension, kidney stones, and possibly even cavities. in addition to this, green tea is calorie-free (if you have it without milk or sugar) and naturally high in antioxidants.

Stir in Some Sweet Steviastevia is an herb with a very sweet taste, but it has no carbs or calories. Research found it to be beneficial in managing obesity and glucose in-tolerance. Stevia comes in many flavors, so it’s easy to flavor up water without all that added sugar.

Drink Your Vegetables!Vegetable juice offers a quick, low-calorie way to get all the benefits of veggies. it also contains much less natural sugar than fruit juices. but vegetable juice can be high in sodium, so opt for a low-sodium version whenever possible. better yet, invest in your own juicer.

The Many Milkssoy beverages are naturally sweet and are now offered in a variety of flavors, including almond and vanilla. They are a great alternative to milk for those who are lactose intolerant or those who don’t consume dairy. you can also opt for unsweetened almond, rice or hemp milks.

CoffeeMore and more evidence is showing that coffee in moderation can be a healthy part of your diet. without cream or sugar, coffee contains zero fat and only a cou-ple of calories. what’s more, coffee drinkers may have a lower risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabe-tes, and certain types of cancer. if you like your coffee sweet with cream, try adding stevia and unsweetened almond milk.

as you can see, there are many alternatives to harm-ful, sugary drinks. This summer, instead of reaching for that sugar-laden beverage, make the better choice for a healthier you!

The following are activities that you can keep track of in your fitness training journal:

• your exercise routine• a food diary• before and after pictures• long-term and short-term goals• personal comments (i.e. how workouts went

for you, what worked and what didn’t)• Medical history (i.e. health risks, blood pressure,

weight)

once you start journaling and keeping track of the items listed above, you’ll see the following benefits.

Motivationstaying motivated and consistent with a workout plan is the number one challenge for most people. however, keeping a journal usually works very well if you struggle to maintain training momentum because it allows you to see your progress. your journal will allow you to see how much weight you’ve lost or how much your running speed and time have increased. as a result, you’ll be able continue on your fitness journey, staying committed to your ultimate goal.

The Focus to Stay on Tracka journal will help you stay focused and keep you from getting sidetracked. writing down and tracking your goals keeps you accountable. a journal also helps you to understand why you may not be progressing as quickly as you would like by allowing you to review your training methods and eating habits that may have pulled you off course. with this information in hand, you can make the necessary adjustments and get back on track!

A Boost in ConfidenceKeeping a fitness journal can be quite the confidence booster. by tracking the goals that you have set and

accomplished, you’ll gain confidence in your fitness abilities. seeing how much progress you’ve made will help you to develop a “can-do” attitude and drive you to set new and greater fitness goals.

Beginning a fitness journey is a life time commitment. Journaling is just one of the many ways to help you stay committed to your goal to live a healthy lifestyle. Use the list above as a starting point and reap these and many other benefits along your path to fitness success.

although steve was ready to make a change, he had no clue as to how he would accom-plish his goal to live healthier. This “unknow-ing” had hindered him for so many years.

“i ran two marathons in 2011 at age 50—35 pounds over my suggested bMi. how i wish i had been able to run without carrying the equivalent of seven, 5 lb bags of sugar around my middle. My assumptions caused me to carry those extra bags of sugar because i wouldn’t start something that i didn’t know how i would [accomplish],” he said.

however, steve had an “ah-ha” moment after reflecting on a principle used by John Lasse-ter of Pixar films.

“with every movie they undertake, they be-gin with one major element that they do not know how they will accomplish,” he said.

and with that principle in mind, steve joined celebration fitness centre in april 2013 and immediately dived feet first into an exercise and diet program. fortunately, steve received guidance from celebration fitness centre personal trainer, Rayann Cruz, who he said helped him tremendously.

“i was pleased that rayann was able to inter-pret my goals and suggest how i could best use the facility and equipment to achieve my ends. she has been an encourager and a friendly consult along the way.”

he also found our staff and the convenience that our facility provides to be helpful.

“celebration fitness centre has everything fitness under one roof,” he said. “The center has a very congenial atmosphere among staff and members alike, and i attribute that to the staff effort to make sure that each member is being welcomed and assisted according to their needs and expectations.”

a sound Mind in a sound bodynearly a year ago, stephen bickley knew it was time for him to take the necessary steps to become healthier. he was 52 and weighed over 200 pounds. Thinking back on how his weight had hindered him from fully enjoying the active lifestyle that he wanted for himself, steve decided to make a change.

as a busy operations manager for walt disney world re-sorts, Steve needed the benefits of a full workout without having to spend a lot of time in the gym. rayann helped steve to develop a workout that worked best for him.

“i typically only have 90 minutes, two or three times a week. I need an efficient workout that gives me optimal results in minimal time,” he said.

To accomplish this, steve uses the elliptical as his core car-dio exercise and then performs sets of various “daily doz-en” callisthenic exercises and floor work. For variety, and as time allows, he uses several of the resistance machines.

Unlike his exercise program, to help drop the extra weight steve took a rather radical approach to his diet. “i only diet two, non-consecutive days a week. on those two days i restrict my caloric intake to less than 500 calories in 24 hours (a.k.a. fasting),” he said. This is coming from a man who never had an interest in changing his eating habits. “i thought i would be tired and hungry all the time. i was mistaken.”

after starting his exercise and diet programs, steve lost 35 pounds in six months. he said that it’s a combination of exercise and healthy eating habits that has allowed him to keep off the weight and become more active.

“i have maintained my [weight] loss between 35 and 25 pounds to date. My experience has been that exercise im-proves my energy and reducing calories sheds the pounds. This is a lifestyle I intend to continue indefinitely,” he said.

steve believes that these healthy lifestyle changes are well worth the effort, as he has seen some major improve-ments in his life.

“I am satisfied that I am getting my investment of time and money back with interest in that i am able to go through each day with sufficient energy, focus on the job ten hours a day and give the same energy to my family , community and pursuit of personal interests,” he said.

after embracing the unknown and seeing the payoff of moving forward with his exercise and diet plan, steve leaves this advice to others: “i would suggest that with diet and exercise, don’t insist to yourself that you have to know how you’re going to do it.”

Moreover, when asked why developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important, steve said: “Mens sana in corpore sano.” This is translated as, “a sound mind in a sound body.”

similar to the swedish Massage, Therapeutic Massage is a full-body massage that targets the deepest layers of muscle tissues and tendons. if you want all the soothing benefits of a regular massage but want to address specific problem areas on your body, Therapeutic Massage is a great choice.

our Therapeutic Massage targets the deep tissue structures of the fascia and muscles, referred to as connective tissue. Therapeutic Massage focuses on the release of muscle tension and chronic “knots” (or adhesions). This massage can help to break up and eliminate scar tissue that may exist from previous trauma to your soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia). a common problem is that stressed muscles can block nutrients and oxygen from getting to where they need to go, and this will cause inflammation that allows toxins to build up in your muscle tissue. The inflammation and toxins contribute to pain and stress. Therapeutic Massage breaks up and releases the built-up toxins by loosening the muscles. with the toxins released, blood and oxygen can circulate as they should through one’s body.

The techniques used in a Therapeutic Massage will often be very similar to those used in a swedish Massage

except more pressure is used. so keep in mind that when receiving a Therapeutic Massage it is important to give feedback to your therapist to make sure the proper pressure is being used. you often hear the term “hurts so good” used when describing massage therapy. experiencing a slight discomfort as your muscles release and adhesions are breaking up is perfectly normal. however, a massage should remain comfortable enough that you can breathe comfortably throughout the session, and your muscles should not begin to tighten up more because of excessive pressure.

after receiving a Therapeutic Massage you might be slightly sore for the next day or two, depending on the amount of toxins, and thus inflammation, that you had before your treatment. however, if you hydrate properly both before and after the massage, this will help you to recover quicker.

we offer both 50 and 80-minute versions of a Therapeutic Massage. The 50-minute session usually allows the therapist enough time to concentrate on a particular area of the body, such as the neck and back. however, if you want a full-body version of this massage, an 80-minute session is recommended.

Paraiso Manicure and Pedicureyour paraiso Manicure and pedicure will consist of a 25- minute service of each and includes expert trimming and shaping of nails and cuticle attention along with foot filing in the pedicure, followed by a relaxing foot massage, and customized with a color of your choice (no french option). you can also choose to do a full 50-minute pedicure (foregoing the manicure), which includes exfoliation and heated booties for your feel as they bathe in a hydrating or cooling masque.

Sweet Bliss Sugar ScrubThis treatment starts with gentle exfoliation of the body using a blend of raw sugar cane crystals, customized to fit your specific skin care needs. Tiny sugar crystals loosen and lift dead cells while detoxifying the skin and drawing moisture from the environment to keep it naturally hydrated. you’ll enjoy your new, healthy glow and silky smooth skin. it is advised not to shave before this treatment.
