games full of intent

Recently-crowned champions Glasgow City travel to K-Park to face Eddie Wolecki Black’s side for the fifth time this season, and their third and final meeting in the SWPL1.

So far in the league this season, the two sides have only

been separated by a single goal with the first match

at Lennoxtown finishing 2–1 to the visitors before City

claimed a narrow 1–0 victory in the reverse. Despite this,

Glasgow City came out 2–0 winners in the most recent

fixture, seeing Booth’s side head into the Scottish Cup

semi-finals, leaving Celtic determined to keep all three

points in East Kilbride today.

Good afternoon and welcome to K-Park for the final time this season as we welcome Glasgow City for our last home game of 2019. I would like to welcome City players, staff and supporters and congratulate them on their recent title win.

Last weekend we sealed a fantastic 3–0 win over our Glasgow

Derby rivals Rangers to make it three wins out of three against

them this season. Despite the score being 0–0 at half-time,

I knew if we continued to press the way we did, would finish

the game off, and we did. I was obviously delighted with

the goals and three different scorers.

Our games against City have been getting closer and closer

since I first took over, with our last league meeting ending in

a narrow 1–0 loss at Petershill Park. Before that, we narrowly

lost out 2–1 at Lennoxtown despite taking the lead.

We’re well aware of what we’re up against this time round

and it’ll be a tough challenge, but we have players who believe

we can beat them, and City now know we can pose a threat.

I would like to thank you once again for your support today

and from across the season. We will approach our final three

games full of intent, and I hope you enjoy the game today.

Thanks,

Eddie Wolecki BlackManager, Celtic FC Women

We’re not dependent on any one player in the squad, which I’m very happy with and the cleansheet gives the whole team confidence, especially off the back of our 5-0 win here

over Motherwell the week before.

Having matched last season’s points capture and bettered their goals tally with four games to go, Kat Smart says the goals they have across the park is an invaluable weapon in their arsenal.

“Everyone on the team is capable of scoring. You couldn’t pick out someone who can’t, so it’s good to have that versatility and it keeps the opposition guessing as to who the ball will go to and who can score,” she told.

“I found it disappointing at the Spartans game to be going in 0–0 at half-time, so it was good to come back to scoring ways. We obviously scored seven against Forfar not long before the break, so five goals is a good take and we’ve scored more than last season, as well as having matched the points total.

“It’s good to have that cushion with four games still to go.”

KAT SMART: EVERYONE IS CAPABLE OF SCORING

Welcome to our final home game of 2019.

Since the international break we’ve produced two good team performances resulting in two wins. It’s mathematically impossible for the teams below us to catch us and we have already reached 40 points for the first time since 2012, but we don’t want to just settle for that, there are still three games to play and anything can happen. We go into these last three games with the aim of another three good performances starting with Glasgow City this Sunday.

The league games between ourselves and Glasgow City have all been close this season, but City are champions for a reason. We go into the game believing we can cause an upset but also with full respect for our opposition. In what has been a broken up season we have managed to gain some momentum and we will be looking to take that into Sunday after a focussed week of preparation.

As always, thanks for your support and thank you for your support across the season. Thanks,

Kelly

EMMA CRAIG DISCUSSES STEP UP TO FIRST TEAM

With less than two weeks to go until the Scottish Youth Cup finals, excitement is building and anticipation rising as the under-13s, under-15s and under-17s are all gearing up to head to the capital.

Edinburgh’s Oriam is set to host the finals on November 16, with Celtic represented in all three finals with the young Hoops on the hunt to finish the 2019 season on a high.

The under-13s take on Hamilton Accies while the under-15s face an enticing Glasgow Derby as they prepare to take on Rangers. After beating Dryburgh Athletic in the semi-final, the under-17s face a tough test in Aberdeen as they also chase silverware.

QUIZ

Having moved up to Eddie Wolecki Black’s first team squad for the last couple of games before the summer break, 18-year-old midfielder Emma Craig has retained her place in the mix, but she knows there’s a lot of hard work still to be done.

“It’s a big step up, so you have to raise your game,” she began, “I’m waiting for any opportunity to come and I’m taking them when I can.”

“It’s nice to be recognised by Eddie and the other coaches so it’s obviously boosting my confidence, but I’m taking it as it comes while being excited about where it could go.

“The pace and physicality are probably the biggest difference. The game against Hibs was really hard and obviously it didn’t go how we wanted it to, but it just shows how big the difference is. It’s just adapting to that and hopefully I’ll get to that standard in time,” she said.
