DST, established in the early 70’s, is a firm providing engineering and contracting services. We specialize in geotechnical, rock mechanics, and environmental works and engineering. In-situ testing and drilling, and laboratory testing for soil, rock, concrete, and asphalt are complimentary services provided through our laboratory. The head office in Canada is located in Thunder Bay and the branch offices are across Canada and USA, and the head office in the Middle East is located in Lebanon. Typical projects are special deep (pile) foundation systems, deep excavation shoring systems, tunneling works, earth dams, soil improvement and stabilization systems, etc. Executed projects, with value ranging up to US$ 30 million, are in Canada, USA, Middle East (Lebanon, Syria, etc.), and Africa (Nigeria and Gambia) A staff of over three hundred personnel in Canada and over fifty in Lebanon, with technical expertise ranging from junior to 30 years of experience, is dedicated to serve the client’s needs. The staff is involved in contracting, field investigation and testing, as well as research and development in the field of our expertise. The research work is published in technical literature and conferences. DST maintains and works through its own laboratory in Canada and Lebanon. The laboratory is equipped with advanced equipment and is maintained in accordance with approved standard for testing and materials such as ASTM, AASHTO, and BS. Furthermore, DST maintains state-of-the-art in-situ testing. Typical equipment available in Lebanon is dynamic cone penetrometer, field vane testing, Menard pressuremeter, nuclear densometer, high-strain dynamic testing, non-destructive low-strain integrity testing, plate loading test, pile static loading test, anchor pull-out test, etc. At DST, we recognize the pivotal importance of the relationship between economy and integrity of construction aspects. Through each of our offices, we offer a comprehensive program for most economic and effective design and specifications that is fully backed up with on-site technical expertise for implementation and control. Our design and solution use state-of-the-art approaches and recognized methodologies that meet the specific requirements of the sites. All design aspects are supported with our full laboratory testing services and in-situ testing and investigation procedures. DST is committed to provide quality and state-of the-art services that economically meet our clients’ expectation. Projects delivered successfully on time are our goal and pride. DST’s client base varies from the private sector to the governmental departments. A wide range of projects have been carried out including residential, industrial, commercial, health center, institutional, highways, and nearshore structures. DST’s construction equipment is diversified from small size, where project space is a constraint, to large and heavy equipment. Below is a list of selected equipment for geotechnical works:

The shoring system involved the construction of large concrete columns supported on micropiles foundations and laterally supported by two levels of anchors. The soil consisted of lightly cemented sandy formation with with loose blocks of rock mass. The concrete columns were constructed due to the existing height that was not feasible nor economical to reach with construction equipment. The micropiles served both for foundation and lateral support purposes. The face of excavation was covered with structural shotcrete.
