Captain Lazar’s Message

Captain David Lazar

Commanding Officer Central Station

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We aregetting our weekly newsletter out to you on Mondaythis week and also on Thursday.

It was a busy weekend in the Central with a largeshowing for the 39th Annual Autumn Moon Festival inChinatown. There was also a good size crowd atGhirardelli’s annual chocolate festival.

Monthly Community Meeting-Date Change

We are moving our community meeting from this Thursday to the followingThursday, September 22, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. This month’s meeting will be at theClift Hotel, 495 Geary Street. I hope to see you there as we discuss current issuesin the Central District.

Chinatown Night Out

We had an incredible Chinatown Night Out last week. I am grateful for all of thecommunity organizations who not only worked together to plan this year’s event, but all those who participated. We worked to get the message out about personalsafety and the theme was “building partnerships.” We have enclosed a few photosfrom the event in today’s newsletter.

Principal’s Breakfast

Great Police Work!

Central Station Officers continue to work hard to keep our community safe. There are a few incidents Iwould like to highlight:

On August 25th, Officers Anderson and Burchard saw a person who matched the description of someonewho was wanted on the 300 block of Pacific. It turns out the suspect was the right person. As a result, he wasarrested for a no bail burglary warrant. The officers, I am sure, prevented a burglary that evening.

On September 7th, Officers Khmarskiy and Bass arrested two individuals for burglarizing an apartment onthe 700 block of Jones! Great arrest!

On September 8th, Officer Huang spotted a known individual, who hours earlier, robbed a store atFisherman’s Wharf with a firearm. Officer Huang called in officers as they took the suspect into custody. Agreat arrest!

On September 9th, the following day, Officer Huang was at Market and Pine when he observed a juvenileon a stolen bicycle. Officer Huang, with the assistance of Officer Christensen, took the juvenile into custody.Unfortunately, the juvenile violently resisted arrest and others around began yelling at the officers. No onewas injured as a result.

On September 11th, Officers Cheng and Williams were on a traffic stop on the 700 block of MarketStreet. During the stop, they saw a subject waving a metal rod and then observed as he smashed thewindow of a business. The officers ran over to his location and took him into custody.

Drunk Driving

We have made quite a few drunk driving arrests lately. Officers on the night watch are doing an excellentjob saving lives. Yesterday morning was no exception. Officers Ferraresi and Ospital arrested a 17 yearold juvenile for drunk driving at Union and Columbus.

Last but not least…….

On September 3rd, Sergeant Spagnuolo of the plainclothes team, along with Officers Johnson, Ortega,Sylvester and Sherman detained an individual who provided a false name to Sergeant Spagnuolo at Pier15. The suspect was on a bicycle. While dealing with the suspect, his phone rang. Sergeant Spagnuoloasked the suspect if he wouldn’t mind if he (the Sergeant) could answer his phone. When the Sergeantanswered the phone, the person on the other end believed it was the suspect and said that he needed the“cutters for a bike.” The Sergeant asked, “where are you?” The suspect replied he was on the Embarcaderowhere he always is. It was then that the owner of the phone began yelling and the Sergeant told the suspectover the phone that he was the police.

These incidents are just an example of the exemplary police work performed daily by Central StationOfficers.

Have a great week!

Each month Central Police Station features one

of its officers in an effort to learn more about the

men and women who police our neighborhood.

This month, we interviewed Officer Sam Yuen,

a 15-year member of Central Police Station.

there. Officer Yuen then moved to San Francisco and attended City College of San

Francisco.
