September 2016 marked the first month of the recently appointed new CEO, Claire-Marie Cuthbert, who brought with her a wealth of leadership expertise in both primary and secondary sectors. As a consequence brand new SEF and Summary SEF templates were implemented across the Trust and were quality assured. A robust new development plan based on best practice, “Transition to Transformation”, was also embedded at both trust and academy level. This allowed for the tight tracking and monitoring of key performance indicators. The Headship Institute was also launched this month, this is a system leadership development programme for headteachers across the Trust allowing them to engage evidence based practice and research. The Institute is designed to develop and support headteachers to make sustainable impact in their schools. The Executive Team and trustees undertook a visioning day led by David Wootton to realign the trust’s vision and values. The trust developed its five key values of Ambition, Integrity, Endeavour, Inclusivity and Resilience. The trust took active steps to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication of staff across the trust through the introduction of the weekly extra mile award. Communication between academies was strengthened through the introduction of a weekly bulletin called “Heads Up” which disseminated news from each of the schools and provided essential strategic information and progress on key performance indicators. The trust central team also underwent a restructure of personnel to ensure the secure financial and sustainable future of the trust.

October 2016A rigorous and robust system of due diligence was undertaken by the CEO in the three academies utilising her Ofsted expertise. As a consequence a new school improvement reporting system was introduced with rigorous action plans to drive forward key areas of development. Reports were disseminated to key stakeholders, including Trustees and local governing bodies, so actions could be rigorously tracked and monitored. Incisive and robust performance management was undertaken across the trust and included the central team for the first time. All performance management paperwork was forensically examined by the CEO before further ratification could take place from the Pay Committee. The trust historically was data rich but key information was not easily accessible for trustees and governors. So a data dashboard was created that allowed the dissemination of performance against key performance indicators across the trust and its three academies. The trust is passionate about inclusion and social mobility and so significant work was undertaken on the application for Beacon Charter, the trust’s alternative provision free school for students who are at risk of permanent exclusion, including the development of a prospectus and promotional video. The new CEO also met the RSC office for the first time this month and presented plans for the growth of the trust.

Further investment across the trust was made in CPOMS which tracks child protection issues and safeguarding concerns in real time with cloud back up. The quality of teaching and learning remains a key priority and brand new capability procedures and protocols were introduced across the trust in liaison with Union best practice. During this month interviews also took place for a brand new Finance Director and Barbara Sims was the successful candidate. Due diligence reviews highlighted pupil premium progress and attainment was an area for development across the trust. Pupil premium reviews were introduced in all three academies led by the Director of School Improvement.
